ESPN Streak for the Cash Picks and Analysis, December 18

The Kansas Jayhawks’ high-flying offense (includingguard Ben McLemore-pictured) gives them a big advantage as the welcome the Stanford Cardinal tonight in one of the ESPN Streak for the Cash picks. Check out all my favorite picks below. Photo by John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

It’s a full Tuesday on ESPN’s STreak for the Cash as we come within a week of Christmas Day and a crazy stunt day. There’s plenty of hoops tonight with NBA and College Basketball action along with a top-ten matchup in Women’s College Basketball. There’s early soccer if you find yourself in the red and need to get your streak rolling. Here’s the six picks I like the most with a quick reason why and my level of confidence in them:

Streak Picks for 12/18

1:00- Mainz win/draw The German DFB Pokai is the German league cup and in Round 3 Schalke 04 host Mainz. Schalke thumped Mainz 3-0 when they met earlier this season in the Bundesliga, but Mainz is actually higher in the table at this point with a 8-2-7 record. Schalke is 7-4-6 and right behind them, but  they’ve lost their last two outright and haven’t won a game against a German squad in their last seven attempts. Mainz has won three of their last four straight-up. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

7:03- Kansas 15+: The Jayhawks are favored by 15.5 and usually dominate at home. They’ve won all five of their home games this season by 14 points or more including against a good Colorado team. Richmond is 9-2 but have played a fairly  light schedule and mostly at home. In two of their their four true  road games they’ve lost by 15 or more at Minnesota and Ohio. KU is way better than both those teams so look for them to cruise past the Spiders. Confidence Meter: 5

Nov 12, 2012; Chicago, IL, USA; Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo (9) dribbles the ball against Chicago Bulls point guard Nate Robinson (2) during the second half at the United Center. The Boston Celtics defeat the Chicago Bulls 101-95. Mandatory Credit: Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

8:05- Boston Celtics: The C’s won in Chicago a month ago and will get the Bulls on the second half of  a back-to-back after losing at Memphis last night. Boston has Rajon Rondo back and the Bulls don’t have Derrick Rose. Boston has struggled on the road recently, but I think they can get the W in Chicago tonight. Confidence Meter: 4

9:05- NC State winning margin: NC State is at home as they host the Stanford Cardinal. The important thing to grasp in this one is that Stanford doesn’t hit many threes averaging just under five a game. NC State has the talent to run past the Cardinal and should get a big win at home. Confidence Meter: 7

9:05- Denver Nuggets: The Spurs are playing back-to-back nights and at altitude where Denver is 6-1. The Nuggets have been playing well of late winning three of four while the Spurs have dropped three of four. San Antonio had been dominant on the road early in the season but lost at Utah, Portland, and OKC in the last week. The Spurs might not play all their starters especially if the Nuggets can get a big lead early. It’s hard to pick against the Spurs but it’s crazy that 95% of streakers are going San Antonio. I like the Nuggets to get the green in this one. Confidence Meter: 5

10:35- Bobcats win or single-digit loss: The Lakers have finally got a couple wins after winning at Washington (by only six) and at Philadelphia (by 13). They’ll return home to face the Bobcats who have improved this season but have fallen off the map lately dropping 11 in a row. They’ve allowed 100+ points in all but one of those losses but have lost by double digits in four of those games. Kemba Walker is a matchup nightmare for the Lakers who don’t have any guard who will be able to contain him. The Bobcats have actually won eight of their last 12 meetings with the Lakers and will desperate to get back in the win column. The Lakers are still adjusting to Coach Mike D’Antoni and will still be without Steve Nash and Pau Gasol. UPDATE: Gasol will return and be in the starting lineup tonight but it doesn’t change my pick here. Charlotte will keep this close.  Confidence Meter: 3
