ESPN Streak for the Cash Picks and Analysis for December 21

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders guards Bruce Massey (13) and Marcos Knight (14) will lead their team against their in-state rival Vanderbilt Commodores in one of the better ESPN Streak for the Cash picks of the day. Find all my picks below. Photo by Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

It’s a full-sports Friday on ESPN’s Streak for the Cash as streakers look to bounce back after a rough day yesterday. According to @ESPN_Streak on twitter the win percentage going into the evening games was just .157. I was actually in the green at that point but came crashing down with the Thunder winning streak in Minnesota. I was able to bounce back (as many were) with Miami in the late TNT game.

Today’s board starts with plenty of soccer as there are four international matchups from Italy, Spain, and England. The evening schedule has basketball from the college and pro ranks and the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl from Tropicana Field. Here’s my top 7 picks of the day:

Streak Picks for 12/21

2:45- Hull City win or Draw: This should be a great matchup between two teams in the second tier of English club soccer trying to get back into the EPL. Hull has been great on the road with a 6-1-4 record winning four of their last five road games outright. Derby has been solid too and have a nice 6-4-1 record at home. However, Hull not only has recent form on their side but also recent history. They’ve earned or win or draw in four of the last five and six of the last eight head to head matches including outright wins the last two games at Derby. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

4:00- Atletico Madrid win by 2+ Goals: Of all the soccer, this is the pick I’m most confident in. Atletico is perfect at home this season in La Liga with a 8-0-0 mark and a +21 goad differential. They’ve won their last four home games by two or more including a 6-0 beatdown of Deportivo La Coruna in their last home match. Today they host Celta Vigo who is just 1-0-7 on the road this season and have lost two of those by two or more. When then matched up wiht La Coruna they tied them at home 1-1 which could spell disaster as they visit red-hot Atletico Madrid. Confidence Meter: 6

Dec 14, 2012; Toronto, ON, Canada; Toronto Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan (10) and guard Alan Anderson (6) and forward Amir Johnson (15) before play resumes against the Dallas Mavericks at the Air Canada Centre. The Raptors beat the Mavericks 95-74. Mandatory Credit: Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports

7:00- Toronto Raptors: Orlando has won their last four as they north of take on Toronto. The Magic  will be without Glen Davis who sprained his shoulder in their win over the Wizards this past Wednesday. They’ll be without Davis for four to six week and are running into a Toronto team that suddenly has won four in a row and beat the Rockets, Mavs, an Pistons in their last three games at the Air Canada Centre. At just 9-15 and playing without their own injured stars Kyle Lowry and Andrea Bargnani, it’s hard to be too confident in the Raps, but I think they’ll be able to handle Orlando who has struggled on the road this season. Confidence Meter: 5

7:00- Atlanta Hawks: The Sixers could again be without Jrue Holiday and have stumbled to five straight losses. Atlanta has been staggering a bit as well having dropped two of three and needing overtime to get their only win in that stretch over the Wizards. Jeff Teague will destroy the Sixers if they don’t have Holiday, and Josh Smith has dominated the Sixers in the past. Confidence Meter: 6

7:35- Ball State wins or Single-Digit Loss: I broke this game down fully in my preview post you can find by clicking hereConfidenc Meter: 5

9:02- Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders: In an in-state rivalry game, the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee visit Nashville to take on Vanderbilt. So far MTU is 8-3 with wins over Ole Miss, Louisiana-Lafayette, and UCF and losses to Florida, Akron, and Belmont. They’ve played five true road games with a 3-2 record. Vandy  has had an up-and-down start to the season at 5-4. They lost at home to Villanova and on the road at Oregon with their best win coming at Xavier in overtime. MTU is favored by seven so the only reason to go the other direction is name-recognition. Confidence Meter: 6

9:05- Baylor wins by Double Digits: Baylor has started 7-3 with losses to Colorado, College of Charleston, and Northwestern. Their signature win so far was definitely going on the road to then-#8 Kentucky and beating them by nine. Their six other wins have all come by double-digits. When Baylor is on, they can roll over most teams, but they do struggle with consistency. BYU has matched the Bears start and actually have an extra win entering tonight’s game at 8-3. The Cougars have struggled when they’ve traveled, though, losing on a neutral court to FSU by 19 and Notre Dame by 10 and dropping a true road game at Iowa State by 21. They did get a win in their last road game but it was against the 5-3 Weber State Wildcats who aren’t nearly as talented as Baylor. The Bears are inconsistent so this is far from a lock but they should be able to win by double-digits as BYU’s road woes continue. Confidence Meter: 7
