ESPN Streak for the Cash Picks and Analysis-December 29

The Butler Bulldogs and guard Rotnei Clarke (15) celebrated a huge win over the Indiana Hoosiers earlier this season and they’re one of the best picks of the day in ESPN’s Streak for the Cash. Photo by Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

As we come to the end of the month year in Streak for the Cash there’s still time to get picks in before a new month, a new year, and new streaks all get underway. Fortunately, there’s still plenty of options to close out the year with 27 picks on the board today and the chance to build on your streak in a hurry if you can find the greens amid todays matchups from the EPL, college bowl games, college basketball, the NBA, and UFC 155. I’ll again have to keep the analysis short since there’s so many picks and so little time.

Streak Picks for 12/29

10:00- West Bromwich Albion win, draw or lose by 1: This is actually a really tricky pick since West Brom has been playing well and Man U at home is usually a really solid pick. In their EPL games though, they’ve only won one of their last six by more than a single goal. West Brom meanwhile has only lost one of their last five by multiple goals and won their road game earlier this week on the road against Queens Park Rangers. The win moved them up to sixth in the table and I think they’ll keep this within a goal. Confidence Meter: 2

11:48- Air Force Falcons: Suppor the troops in this one by taking Air Force to win the Armed Forces Bowl. The one thing the Falcons can do is run the ball and Rice finished 92nd out of 124 teams in the FBS in rushing defense. Plenty of ground game to go around in this one. Confidence Meter: 6

12:02- Any other result: This is the Duke over Santa Clara by 20+ or AOR pick. Santa Clara is 11-2 and lost both their losses in overtime. I don’t think this game will be that close but I do think they’ll keep it within 20. Confidence Meter: 4

3:20- Syracuse Orange: I know I’m going against the majority in this one but if you click here and read my Pinstripe Bowl preview you’ll see why. Confidence Meter: 3

4:03- Kentucky win or single-digit loss: It’s a rivalry that’s huge for both schools as UK visits the KFC Yum! Center to take on the Cardinals. Louisville is 11-1 but hasn’t been dispatching teams easily. They beat Memphis by just nine at Memphis and Illinois State at home by just three in their six game winning streak although the rest have all been by comfortable margins over not-as-talented teams. Kentucky has been cruising since dropping back-to-back games at Notre Dame and at home against Baylor. Of their three losses, only Notre Dame was by double-digits and since rivalry games tend to be close I’ll to with Cal and the Cats. Confidence Meter: 4

5:05- 3 TDs or more: Unless something weather-wise slows these teams down they should be putting points on the board in a hurry. Confidence Meter: (subject to change if first half is somehow more defensive.)

6:05- Tennessee by Double-Digits: The X-men travel to Rocky Top in a matchup of teams with seven wins. Xavier has dropped three of their last four including losing at home to Wofford in their last game after losing by 15 to their arch-rival Cincinnati by 15. Tenessee has been trending the other direction after some ugly losses earlier this season. They scored just 36 and 38 points in their last two losses but both those happened on the road (at Georgetown and Virginia). Since then they’ve turned things around returning home to beat then-#23 Wichita State by nine, Presbyterian by 16, and Western Carolina by 14. These teams are headed in opposite directions so take the team trending up even though 10 points is a lot to give. Confidence Meter: 4

6:50- Oregon State: For the full analysis of this Valero Alamo Bowl, click here. Confidence Meter: 7

7:00- Atlanta Hawks: Atlanta is good at home (10-5) while Indiana has struggled on the road (8-9). The Pacers have won four in a row but against pretty bad teams including a hard-fought win at home against the Suns last night. Atlanta also played last night beating the Cavs in Cleveland behind a big night from Jeff Teague. Atlanta won by three at home when the teams met earlier this season. Confidence Meter: 6

8:05- Butler Bulldogs: Butler has never played at Vanderbilt and they’ll go in as the #18 ranked team in the country against the 4-4 Commodores who struggle to score and lost their last game last week to Middle Tennesse. Butler should be able to win comfortably in this one while running their win streak to seven. Confidence Meter: 8

8:05- Oklahoma City Thunder: The Thunder are favored by five and blew the Rockets away but 22 when the teams met the end of last month. This time the game is in Houston, but OKC bounced back nicely from their loss at Miami by battling Dallas to an overtime win while Houston played last night in San Antonio and lost by six. Confidence Meter: 7

10:20- Michigan State: My full preview is here, but after watching Minnesota’s physicality give Texas Tech trouble last night I’m even more convinced that MSU gets the win here with tough D and Le’Veon Bell carrying them to the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl win. Confidence Meter: 5

10:30- Golden State: Boston is struggling on the road and Golden State is really good at home. It pains me to pick against my team, and I’ll be pulling for the C’s to prove me wrong on this one, but the smart pick is the home team. Confidence Meter: 4
