Thursday tees off the first full-field PGA Tour event and golf returns to ESPN’s Streak for the Cash menu with a Johnson v Johnson matchup between Zach and Dustin. That’s just one of the  20 matchups on the board today including some early soccer and plenty of NBA and College Basketball tonight. Hockey’s coming soon, but with no NHL it’s a hardcourt dominated world in Streak for now. Here’s the picks I like the most today:

Streak Picks 1/10

10:00- Ghana Win: It all depends on who’s playing, but it looks like Ghana will be more motivated and will be tough to beat if they field their full squad. Egypt did not qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations starting in 10 days while Ghana will be tuning up looking to improve its fourth place finish last year. Ghana and Egypt met in the Africa Cup Finals in 2010 with Egypt winning 1-0 to secure their third cup in a row at that point. This is a friendly so if you’re not in the red stay away. Confidence Meter: 2

Sep 30, 2012; Medinah, IL, USA; United States golfer Zach Johnson celebrates winning his match on the 17th green during the 39th Ryder Cup on day three at Medinah Country Club. Europe defeats the United States 14 1/2 to 13 1/2. Mandatory Credit: Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

12:50- Zach Johnson or tie: ZJ has won here before (2009) and fits the course a bit better with his short game. DJ just won Tuesday in a late finish in Maui. It’s a tough call but with the tie I think Zach pulls this one out in his first round of the PGA Tour season. If you take this you’ll be locked most of the day especially if there are weather delays like there were in last week’s tournament (although that’s not expected to be the case). The course history and the tie make me lean Zach although Dustin is once again one of my fantasy golf picks.  Confidence Meter: 4

1:30- Getafe Win/Draw: Atletico Madrid is up 3-0 on aggregate and is known to rest players in Cup play. Getafe has been in bad form recently but usually do decently at home. The heavy majority of streakers are going Madrid, but the last few days have again shown us how little that means as Cup action tends to not follow the script. Confidence Meter: 3

7:00- North Carolina: The Tar Heels host the Miami Hurricanes and are 4.5 point favorites at home as they look to get their first ACC win after dropping their opener at Virginia earlier this week. UNC is 10-4 overall but haven’t lost a home game yet this season. Their losses came at Virginia, Texas, then-#1 Indiana, and on a neutral court to Butler. Miami has won both games they’ve played this year over La Salle and Georgia Tech but closed 2012 with losses to Arizona and Indiana State in Honolulu. At home I think the Tar Heels high-scoring offense will be too much for the ‘Canes to handle. Confidence Meter: 7

7:00- Michigan State: The Spartans visit Iowa where the Hawkeyes are searching for their first Big 10 win after opening with a tough schedule against Indiana and Michigan. State is only favored by 2.5 so don’t overlook Iowa who finished their non-conference schedule 11-2. The Spartans are just 1-2 in true road games but dominated Purdue en route to a 23 point win their last time out. Confidence Meter: 5

8:10- Indiana Pacers: Indiana’s defensive toughness has been impressive early in the season and its earned them a 13-3 record at home. On Tuesday, the Heat became their latest victim at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, and tonight the Pacers host the Knicks who will be without Carmelo Anthony following his one-game suspension for chasing down KG after the Knicks loss to Boston on Monday. The Knicks are just 5-5 in their last 10 while Indiana is 8-2, so in this “pick’em” matchup I’ll take the hot Pacers over the Melo-less Knicks. Confidence Meter: 4

9:00- Oregon Ducks: The Arizona Wildcats try to remain unbeaten as they travel to Oregon where they are one-point road favorites. The Ducks are 12-2 and coming off a nice road win over their arch-rival Oregon State. Oregon is 1-1 against ranked opponents knocking off then-# 18 UNLV and losing the then-#22 Cincinnati. Their other loss came in triple-overtime on the road at UTEP. Oregon is undefeated at the Matthew Knight Arena and will prove a tough test for ‘Zona. The Wildcats come in ranked #4 after squeaking out a contested win over Colorado in overtime and winning by just three over Utah. They’ve been fortunate to stay unbeaten and I think their great start to the season comes to an end tonight against a solid Oregon squad. In-conference road games are always tough for highly ranked schools and this is where ‘Zona takes its first loss. Confidence Meter: 3

10:45- Portland Trail Blazers: The Miami Heat will look to bounce back from their loss in Indiana as they head to face another tough team at home in Portland where the Blazers have won eight in a row at home and four in a row overall. The Heat have been stumbling lately getting only three win in their last seven. Two of those wins required overtime and the other win came against hapless Washington. Portland is playing well at home and getting good play out of their young bigs and rookie Damian Lillard who will pose tough matchups for Miami. Might as well take the Oregon upset two-for-one special. Confidence Meter: 4

11:05- Gonzaga wins by Double Digits: The Zags are 10.5 point favorites as they host Saint Mary’s who comes in 12-3. The Gaels lost at UNI by seven before returning home to win their last four games. Their earlier two losses were to Pacific and Georgia Tech on a neutral court. Saint Mary’s hasn’t played a ranked team yet as they take on #9 Gonzaga. The Zags have won their last three games on the road by 7, 16, and one and haven’t lost since getting knocked off by then-#13 Illinois six games ago. They tend to blow people out at home and should be able to handle their WCC rivals handily at the McCarthey Athletic Center. Confidence Meter: 6
