ESPN Streak for the Cash Picks and Analysis, January 15

The Indiana Hoosiers and guard Victor Oladipo (4) welcome the Wisconsin Badgers to Bloomington tonight in one of the best picks in ESPN Streak for the Cash. Find all my picks below. Photo by Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Today’s Streak for the Cash board has 14 picks on it so far with most of the action tonight from college basketball. There’s an NBA game as well with early soccer and hockey from Europe and Russia to round out the many opportunities to hunt down the green and extend your streak.

I didn’t feel very confident about yesterday’s picks but they paid off as overall I went 7-2. Hopefully today I can keep that roll going with these picks being the ones I like the most:

Streak Picks for 1/15

10:30- Severstal Chrepovets: Severstal Cherepovets are home underdogs as they host Lokomotiv Yaroslavl this morning. Severstal won a meeting five days ago on the road at Lokomotiv and are 4-1 this month compared to a 2-2 mark for Lokomotiv. I’ll go with the team with home ice to get their second win in this head-to-head in a week. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

3:00- Valencia win, draw, or lose by one: This is Cup play so beware, but Valencia has had a solid 9-3-7 result so far in La Liga including a 1-1 draw at Real Madrid early in the season. They’ve won their last three games and have only three multiple-goal defeats this season. The face off with Real Madrid agin in five days in La Liga play as well, but this match is the first lef of the Quarters in the Copa Del Rey. Confidence Meter: 3

7:00- New Orleans Hornets: The Sixers host the Hornets tonight after snapping a five-game losing streak by beating Houston 107-100 on Saturday behind 30 points and nine assists from Jrue Holiday. The Horents had their four-game winning streak snapped in their last game going down 100-87 at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. New Orleans had some impressive wins prior to that loss though knocking off the Mavs in Dallas and the Spurs, Rockets, and T-Wolves at home in the Big Easy. I’ll take the slight underdog (+3) Hornets sinc ethey’re the team playing better ball lately. Confidence Meter: 5

7:03- Any Other Result: This pick is for the Kentucky-Tennessee game and is for the Vols to stay within 15 points. Kentucky has the talent and offensive firepower to win and pull away late, but Coach Cal’s Wildcats have proven wildly inconsistent so far this season. They actually lost their last home game by 12 against unranked Texas A&M behind a huge performance from Elston Turner. The Vols also lost their last game giving them three losses in a row. Only one was a blowout, and their three-point defeat in Alabama showed that they  can at least stay competetive on the road against good competition. I think UK win at home, but I don’t think they’ll cover. Confidence Meter:  4

7:05-Wake Forest wins or loses by single-digits: The Clemson Tigers host Wake Forest in this ACC matchup and are eight-point favorites after a convincing win over Virginia their last time out. Wake has won their last two both at home over Virginia and BC, but lost two of their three two road games so far this season. Clemson has won four of its last five home games by double-digits but lost their other to Florida State. Clemson isn’t a great scoring team (see their first-half debacle against Duke), so taking them to win by 10 seems ambitious especially when you consider that the Deacons shoot a higher percentage and score a higher average of points per game. Confidence Meter: 3

9:00- Indiana wins by Double Digits: The Hoosiers host the Wisconsin Badgers and are favored by 10.5 according to Vegas. They’re coming off a big seven-point win over Minnesota and are undefeated (3-0) in Big Ten play. Their only loss came on a neutral court and they’ve won all their games except their last one over the then-#8 Golden Gophers by 10 or more. Wisconsin is coming off a nice win of their own blowing the doors off the then-#12 Illini at home in Madison on Saturday. Going on the road to Assembly Hall though will be a totally different challenge though against the Hoosers who are leading the nation in points per game averaging 87.1. Indiana may take another loss before Big Ten play is done, but I think they’ll get a double-digit win tonight against the Badgers. Confidence Meter: 7

9:06- Ole Miss wins by Double Digits: How is no one talking about the Rebels? They’re not even ranked after a 13-2 start including a 15-point win over a tough Mizzou team in their last game. Tonight they’ll head into Vanderbilt where the Commodores are still looking for their first SEC win and are coming off a woeful 56-33 loss at Arkansas just three days ago. Vandy struggles to score averaging 57.6 points per game while the Rebs rank 7th in country averaging 82.4. Ole Miss has scorers and should be able to get this road win in conference over the sturggling Commodores. Confidence Meter: 6
