ESPN Streak for the Cash Picks and Analysis, January 16

One of the best ESPN Streak for the Cash picks for today are the Iowa State Cyclones  and forward Chris Babb (2) who here is shown making against Kansas Jayhawks forward Kevin Young. Photo by John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

On this Wednesday the 16th, ESPN’s Streak for the Cash has 20 picks on the board starting with Greek, English, and Spanish soccer followed by picks and props from around the world of college and NBA hoops tonight. There’s also some options tonight from the Australian open. Yesterday was a tough one for my  picks overall, but I’m hoping to bounce back today with these picks.

Streak Picks 1/16

10:00- Panthrakikos win or draw: This match between Panthrakikos and Apollon Smirnis is the fourth round of the Greek Cup. Apollon is 9-3-3 and leads the Football Legue which is the second tier of Greek soccer. Pantrhakikos is currently 6-3-8 in the Super League which is the top tier. You’d have to think they should be able to get a draw on the road if they play their normal squad. They’ve gotten a win or draw in four of their last five League matches. Confidence Meter: 2

2:45- Chelsea wins by 2+Goals: Enough cup soccer, let’s back to EPL league play as Chelsea hosts Southampton giving a goal. The two squads met January 5 in FA Cup play and Chelsea won at Southampton 5-1. On the other hand, Southampton hasn’t lost a EPL game by more than a goal since 11 league matches ago. Chelsea has been scoring recently and I think they’ll cover as they’re favored (-150) toConfidence Meter: 3

7:03- North Carolina State: The Wolfpack are 1 1/2 point underdogs as they head to Maryland, so don’t just go based on the fact that they’re ranked. The reason why I’m taking the road ‘dog is that the Pack are in great form having won 10 in a row including a convincing win at home over then-#1 ranked Duke on Saturday. The Terps will host red-hot NC State with a 13-3 record overall but coming off a pair of tough in-conference losses at home to Florida State and at Miami. I’m go with the team in better form lately even on the road in this one, but don’t be fooled this is no lock. Confidence Meter: 4

7:04- Pittsburgh: Pitt is favored by 5 1/2 over their in-state rival Villanova as they travel to Philly in this Big East matchup. The Panthers fell out of the top 25 but have gotten off to a solid 13-4 start. They lost at home against streaking Marquette in overtime giving them three losses in their last four games, but their one win in that span is an impressive win at then-#19 Georgetown. Villanova also lost last week dropping an 11-point game at Syracuse after starting Big East play with wins over St. John’s and USF. The Wildcats come in 11-5 and have the tough part of their Big East schedule still ahead of them. Pittsburgh’s passing and scoring should be enough to get them the road win as the middle of the Big East continue to knock each other around. Confidence Meter: 6

7:05- Indiana Pacers: Indiana has won 14 of their last 18 as they head to Orlando to take on the Magic who have lost 11 of 12 including six in a row at home. The Pacers are favored by just 1.5 mainly since it is the second game in back-to-back nights. In this case though, I think the talent and current form differential is enough for me to go with the Pacers even in back to back games. Confidence Meter: 5

7:35- Brooklyn Nets: The Nets take on the free-falling Hawks in Atlanta and for some reason come in as 4.5 point underdogs. They too are playing for the second night in a row but have won seven in a row while Atlanta has forgotten how to put the ball in the bucket. They have won just once in their last seven and managed a meager 58 points in Chicago on Monday. The Nets are rolling while the Hawks are trending the opposite way, so I’ll again take the momentum-loaded road ‘dog. Confidence Meter: 6

8:30- Garbine Muguruza games won: Muguruaza’s games are set against Serena Williams Sets in this one. Serene only needs to win two in order to advance as most assume she will, so this is basically a question of wether the 19-year old Spaniard can get three games against Williams. Serena rolled her ankle in the last match, and Muguruza beat a pair of top 10 players at the Sony Ericsson Open last spring. This is the first time she’ll face Serena who was her favorite tennis player growing up. I think she’ll take at least three games since picking a 6-0, 6-0 result or even 6-1, 6-1 seems like a stretch. Confidence Meter: 3

9:05- Iowa State wins by Double Digits: ISU is a team I’m really starting to like. The Cyclones gave Kansas all they could handle at home forcing overtime before losing by 8. They bounced back nicely routing Texas by 20 their last time out. Against the Mountaineers, they’re favored by 10 1/2 at home. Coach Bob Huggins’ WVU team lost at home to Kansas State and Oklahoma in two of their last three games and are 8-7 with three of lost losses coming by double-digits. At home, I think the offensive firepower of Iowa State will be too much for West Virginia. Confidence Meter: 7

9:30- 25 Points or Fewer: Pick subject to change based on gameplay but the Rockets scored just 18 in the third at home last night and on the road they have been held with 100 points or less in their last three (25 per quarter). Confidence Meter: 2

9:45- Any Other Result: The Tennis prop here is for Bernard Tomic to sweep Daniel Brands or not. Brands won his way here through qualifying after losing in the Semis at the Qatar Open after knocking off Monfils in the Quarters. Tomic is also coming off a strong tournament getting the win in the Sydney ATP. Tomic reportedly is all watched up on Brands game via YouTube. I think Brands should be able to pull a set off him here though. The straight-set win is the slight favorite at -138. Confidence Meter: 3

10:40- Golden State Warriors: Both the Warriors and Heat come in scuffling a big with three losses in their last four. The Heat have been struggling a bit on the road and seem to be in full “wait to throw the switch in the playoffs” mode. The Warriors are 12-5 at home while Miami is just 8-9 as the away team. The two teams met in Miami December 12th and the Warriors beat Miami 97-95. Confidence Meter: 4

10:41- No LeBron doesn’t reach 20K in the 1st Half: LeBron is 18 points short of 20,000 in his career. He can obviously score 18 and get this record in the first half, but his average says that’s not the more likely outcome. The Warriors defended Miami well in South Beach and I think LeBron gets 22-25 in the game meaning this first-half prop is likely to be no. Confidence Meter: 5

11:00- BYU Winning Margin: The Saint Mary’s Gaels head to Provo to take on BYU as they look to hand the Cougars their first WCC loss of the season. Saint Mary’s played well before losing to Gonzaga last week and bounced back nicely to beat San Francisco by six in their last game. BYU has been rolling over people lately, especially at home. They haven’t had any team stay within 25 of them in their last five home games. The Gaels hit an average of eight three-pointers per game, but BYU’s ability to pile up points and win comfortably at home make me lean their direction in this tricky little late-night prop. Confidence Meter: 4
