Now that the NHL has worked out its labor issues, it’s time to stuff the daily sports calendar even more full with an abbreviated and accelerated hockey season. ESPN’s Fantasy Hockey Challenge is back as well giving you an opportunity to compete with writers and fellow-readers from across the FanSided network.

Hockey Challenge is a basic salary cap based game where each owner is a 100 million dollar budget to create a roster of two goalies, four defensemen, and six forwards. All players are assigned a dollar value which will fluctuate based on their performance throughout the season. Rosters lock on a weekly basis, so make sure to select players with favorable schedules. It takes just minutes each week and best of all there is no cost to create an entry. Here’s the links to our FantasyCPR group:

Scoring is fairly simple with all players earning a point per goal and assist while defenders also earn a bonus for a shutout. Goalies earn two points per win, and one bonus point for a shutout. It seems simple but it can get tricky as prices fluctuate and teams heat up and cool down.

I’ll try to get a post with my roster and why I’m skating with them to start the season, but I wanted to get the league open so everyone could get in before the puck drops on Saturday.

It’s great to have the NHL back in action! Celebrate by joining us for Fantasy Hockey.
