As usual on Saturday, there’s plenty of Streak for the Cash action to keep you going all day long. Today’s board feature’s the third place game in the Africa Cup of Nations soccer tournament as well as the EPL and Italian Serie A if you’re into soccer. If you’d rather stick to sports on this continent there’s tons of hockey and basketball from the pro and college leagues to keep you busy. In fact, there’s so many options I broke today’s post into two pages to help it all load faster which is a first for my Streak Picks.

My picks lately have been solid overall although they hit a dry spell last night. I keep getting knocked out by a loss and then going on another decent run. Here’s how I’m hoping to string some greens together today in today’s coast-to-coast and morning-to-night sports:

Streak Picks for 2/9

7:45- Tottenham Hotspur win: The Spurs will look to get their first home win in a month as they host Newcastle United in the earliest pick on the board. Hotspur has played their last three games away with a 1-1-1 record. They’ve won just one of their last four outright but had a nice draw against Manchester United and still sit fourth overall in the table. Their home record is solid at 6-4-2. Newcastle also has a good home record at 6-1-6 but have struggled on the road going just 1-5-6. Newcastle has won their last two EPL games beating Aston Villa on the road and a tough Chelsea squad at home. This is a trickier pick than it looks like at first, but I do think the Spurs get it done at home. Confidence Meter: 2

11:03- Dayton Flyers: Dayton are 3 1/2 point favorites at home as they take on the Owls. The Flyers are just 3-5 in A-10 play but their three wins have all come in their last three home games. Temple  has also been up-and-down lately  and are 4-4 in the A-10 winning their last three at home but dropping their last two on the road at Butler and at St. Joe’s. St. Joe’s edged Temple by one and then lost to Dayton by 6. This will be a close game and could go either way, but based on recent results and the home court, I’m going Dayton. Confidence Meter: 4

12:02- Florida State: The Seminoles travel to Winston-Salem to take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Wake is just 3-7 in conference play and is coming off to 25+ point losses at Maryland and UNC. They have played better lately at home staying within five of then-#5 Duke and knocking off then-#18 NC State. The Wolfpack win though is a little misleading since they were ranked way to high at that point in my opinion. FSU hasn’t fared all that great in the ACC either, but they did beat Maryland, Clemson, and Georgia Tech on the road already this season. Florida State isn’t a good enough team to make me super-confident in this one, but I do think they can get the win over the Deacons who have just one win in their last seven games. Confidence Meter: 6

12:02- Michigan Wolverines: Michigan can probably move back to #1 with a win over their Big Ten rivals in Madison where they’ll take on Wisconsin. The Badgers are always tough at home and have a 12-2 record at the Kohl Center this season. Their two home losses were to Michigan State on January 22 and early in the season to Virginia. The Badgers narrowly escaped their third home loss when they needed double-overtime to knock off Iowa on Wednesday. Michigan comes off a close victory as well needing overtime to dispatch Ohio State. The Wolverines have proven they can go on the road and win with victories at Illinois and then-#9 Minnesota. They last last Saturday at Indiana, but I think they’ll have better results this time around. Michigan comes in as 2 1/2 point favorites and their backcourt play should be enough to get them past a defensively-minded Badger squad. Confidence Meter: 5

1:00- Ghana: Mali beat Ghana in the third place game last year 2-0 and will look to again take advantage of the disappointed Ghana team that wanted to be playing in the Championship not the Third Place Game. Mali could easily pull the upset again so I’d stay away from this game with the other options on the board. If you must pick, I’d take Ghana since they have so much more firepower, but don’t overlook the fact that they didn’t want to be in this game while Mali is at the end of a Cinderella story. Confidence Meter:  2 1/2

1:00- Pittsburgh Penguins: The Penguins beat New Jersey 5-1 last Saturday as part of their current five-game winning streak. The two teams play back-to-back games this weekend in a matchup of two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. Pittsburgh has been excellent on the road (6-1-0) while the Devils are excellent at home (4-0-1). Since their loss last week, New Jersey has realed off three wins with an aggregate of 10-3 over that span. I’ll take the Pens based on last week’s lopsided win, but I’m not very confident in the pick since New Jersey is excellent at the Prudential Center. Confidence Meter: 3

1:00- Carolina Hurricanes: The Hurricanes hit Phily this afternoon to take on the Flyers. The Flyers continue to struggle offensively overall averaging only 2.3 goals per games which ranks them 23rd in the NHL. Last week they beat Carolina 5-3, one of just two games all year in which they’ve scored three or more goals. After that loss, the ‘Canes went on the road and beat Toronto and Ottawa and finish their trip looking to avenge their trip-opening loss. They should have Cam Ward between the pipes for this game after he didn’t start last week’s loss. Ward has been on fire lately and stopped all but one shot he faced against the Flyers last week after he came in to replace an ineffective Dan Ellis early in the second period. I don’t think Carolina is a great team, but with Ward playing well and the Flyers inability to get goals I think they get the win in this one. Confidence Meter: 4

1:30- Arkansas Razorbacks: Arkansas is coming off on of the most-surprising and convincing wins of the season. They Hogs dispatched the #2 Florida Gators with ease cruising to a 80-69 win on Tuesday night. Today they’lll travel to Vanderbilt to take on the low-scoring Commodores. Vanderbilt has lost four in a row including a home loss to Alabama and on the year they average only 59.2 points per game (ranked 330 in the nation). In contrast, Arkansas ranks 21st averaging 77.1 per game and just reached 80 on a team many thought played the best defense in the nation. Arkansas beat Vandy 56-33 in Fayetteville with Vanderbilt only scoring 11 in the first half. While I think this game will be closer, I think the Razorbacks come away with another fairly easy victory since they can score so much more prolifically. I don’t see a let down coming in this one. Confidence Meter: 7

2:05- Massachusetts Minutemen: UMass is a 3 1/2 point favorite at home against St. Joe’s. The Minutemen have a better conference record, are at home, and have won three of their last four. The Hawks have also won three of four but lost on Tuesday at Dayton. UMass has been good at home (8-2) and are the better scoring team, so I think they’re the way to go in this pick. Confidence Meter: 4

2:45- Lazio win or Draw: Lazio is 13-4-6 in Serie A play which sits them third in the table. In this match they’ll face Napoli who are second with a 15-4-4 record. Lazio gets the draw at home where they’re 9-1-2 on the year while Napoli has either drawn or lost five of their 11 road games. Earlier this season Napoli won 3-0 at home, and Lazio will be looking for payback in this one. I think they’ll at least manage a draw, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they won outright. Confidence Meter: 5

3:05- Villanova wins by double digits: Jay Wright’s Wildcats host the South Florida Bulls who are just 1-9 in Big East play after a 23 point loss at home to Marquette. Villanova was on the right end of a lopsided score like that in their last game as they dealt DePaul a 23 point loss on their home floor. The Wildcats are 5-5 in the Big East but they did lose their last home game to Providence after dispatching Louisville and Syracuse at the Pavillion when both were in the top five. Villanova beat USF by eight in Tampa before their impressive wins, so I think they’ll be able to win this by 15-20 easily covering the nine point spread and getting the green for double digit pickers. Confidence Meter: 6

4:05- Kansas Jayhawks: Kansas is 3 1/2 point favorites on the road at Oklahoma, but could they really lose their third straight Big 12 game? They’ll need to shoot better to avoid that fate after shooting below 30% in their loss to TCU. Before knocking off the Jayhawks TCU was 0-8 in the Big 12. Oklahoma will be looking to avoid its own three-game skid after dropping games to K-State and Iowa State in their last two games. Kansas beat Oklahoma by 13 back on January 26th. Coach Bill Self said he was “disgusted” and should have his team fired up to get back on the winning side. The Jayhawks are just too talented to drop these three in a row and they should be able to right the ship as they head into Norman. Confidence Meter: 7

5:05- Georgia Bulldogs: Georgia is three point favorites ast they host Texas A&M in a nice, even SEC matchup. The Aggies got me a win in Streak for the Cash their last time out as they knocked off Mizzou at home. Georgia beat A&M earlier this year at College Station, and after opening conference play 1-4 have won their last four in a row including three road wins at A&M, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Strangely, they have only one conference win at home against Auburn, but the Aggies have had trouble on the road losing at Alabama and LSU earlier this season. Since Georgia won this matchup earlier and are now the home team, I think they’ll get a close, hard-fought win over A&M today. Confidence Meter: 3

6:05- Cincinnati Bearcats: In the matchup of the day, the #23 Pitt Panthers travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats. These teams are big-time Big East rivals who are both within a game and an half of the top spot in the conference which is log-jammed at the top. Cincinnati beat Pittsburgh by 9 at Pittsburgh earlier this year but the Panthers have been rolling lately winning six of seven with their only loss coming by three at Louisville. Cincinnati had been playing well before tripping up at Providence on Wednesday. I think the Bearcats were just caught looking ahead to this game which is a rivalry game that they’ll host. I’ll take the home team because I think the guards of Cincinnati will be able to dominate while their shots typically fall at home. Confidence Meter: 3
