ESPN Streak for the Cash February 15 Picks and Analysis

In one of tonight’s Streak for the Cash options, the Buffalo Sabres and Boston Bruins face off again in their ongoing Northeast rivalry. With the NBA taking its All-Star break, there’s still plenty of Streak for the Cash action to focus on in the sports world to keep everyone occupied. College Basketball is still available if you’re a hardwood addict, and there’s also plenty of NHL options tonight. Earlier action features the usual end-of-the-week mixture of international soccer and PGA golf. Here’s the picks I’ll be watching.

2/15 Streak Picks

Sep 8, 2012; Carmel, IN, USA; Webb Simpson tees off on the 12th hole during the third round of the BMW Championship at Crooked Stick Golf Club. Mandatory Credit: Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

10:22- Webb Simpson: Dustin Johnson has been struggling and shot a +5 on these holes yesterday with a birdie and five bogeys. Simpson was -3 over the same stretch with no bogeys and a trio of birdies. The tie is always good to have in these nine-hole props, but I’ll take the player who was EIGHT strokes better over this stretch yesterday. Simpson finished 26th last week while DJ missed the cut. Simpson is simply better right now since CJ has been struggling since winning the season-opening tournament in Hawaii. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

2:30- Bayern Munich wins by 2+: Munich has been dominating the Bundesliga with a 17-3-1 record. They’ve won their last four matches by multiple goals and beat VfL Wolfsburg 3-0 earlier this season. Wolfsburg is mid-table with a 7-5-9 record, but they just aren’t in Bayern’s class. This could be a 2-1 win, but I think it’ll be a 3-0 or 2-0 game. Confidence Meter: 4

7:00-Boston Bruins: The Bruins are dominating at 8-1-2 so far this season. Their one loss in regulation was to buffalo back on New Year’s Eve as the Sabres rallied back and won 7-4 in Boston. The Bruins came back and got their revenge with a 3-1 win last Sunday in Buffalo. This is one of the most heated rivalries as of late, so expect the teams to come to blows at least once in this one. I also expect eh Bruins to come out on top since the Sabres have struggled since starting the year 2-0-0 winning just three of their last 12 games since. Boston has proven itself to be one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference and that they can win in Buffalo. Confidence Meter: 4

7:00- Pittsburgh Penguins: As long as the Penguins aren’t playing against New Jersey, they’ve been unbeatable. They’ve won six of their last eight with both losses coming against the Devils. Tonight they’re on the road in Winnipeg where the Jets have dropped their last two home games to Toronto and Philadelphia. The Penguins are playing well, so taking them on the road against a below .500 team seems like a good pick. Confidence Meter: 6

7:00- Iona Gaels: The Gaels can pile up points averaging 82.6 which is good enough for third in the nation. They’re three-point favorites as they go on the road to Manhattan tonight. They snapped their three-game losing streak by beating Rider on Saturday after a tough double-overtime loss to Marist, a three-point loss to Canisius, and a three-point overtime loss at Niagara. They beat Manhattan at home already this season winning by eight, but the Jaspers have been playing well  having won three in a row. This should be a good, close game, but I’ll take the firepower of Iona to get the win over Manhattan who averages 58.5 points per game ranking them 334th in the nation in scoring. Confidence Meter: 5

8:30- Chicago Blackhawks: The Blackhawks beat the Sharks in San Jose last Tuesday and since then the Sharks have spiraled out of control. That loss was part of their current six-game skid which has dropped them to 7-3-3. Chicago is still atop the West with a 10-0-3 record despite playing just three home games and ten on the road. Chicago is 2nd in the league in goals per page and four in goals against. The Blackhawks have looked every bit the elite team many expected them to be. At home against a struggling Sharks team, Chicago makes one of the better picks of the day. Confidence Meter: 7

9:00- Georgetown: The Hoyas may be playing their best of the season as they’ve won six in a row including nice wins over then-#18 Marquette and then-#5 Louisville. The streak actually started on the road against then-#24 Notre Dame. They’ll go on the road again as they take on Cincinnati tonight who isn’t ranked anymore due to their recent struggles. They lost at home to Pittsburgh last  Thursday and at Providence leading up to that game. They were able to bounce back against Villanova their last time out with an 18-point home win, but the Hoyas are playing at a very high level and I think they’ll get this win on the road although in-conference road games are never easy. Confidence Meter: 6

9:00- Green Bay: The Green Bay Phoenix take to the road as they face the  Cleveland State Vikings for the second time this season. The Phoenix beat Cleveland State by 27 at home back on January 19th in their first meeing and will look to sweep the season series tonight at the Wolstein Center. The season hasn’t gone well for Cleveland State as the Vikings are just 4-8 in the Horizon League after losing their last two in a row and six of their last eight. While Green Bay is far from the class of the Horizon, I think they’ll be able to get the win on the road tonight as they come into this one as five point road favorites. Confidence Meter: 7
