ESPN Streak for the Cash February 21 Picks and Analysis

In one of tonight’s Streak for the Cash picks, the San Antonio Spurs will have to once again contend with the Los Angeles Clippers led by high-flying forward Blake Griffin. Find my picks for that game and many others today right here. Mandatory Credit: Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Today’s ESPN Streak for the Cash board starts the last week of the month out right with plenty of options from 10:30 this morning to 11:05 tonight. The golf is iffy and could be pushed if the weather doesn’t cooperate in Tuscon, but there’s soccer this afternoon and plenty of hockey and hoops tonight to choose from. Here’s the picks I’m watching today:

Streak Picks, 2/21

10:30- Charl Schwartzel: Shwartzel and Henley are all square through 11, but as I stated in my picks post I think Schwartzel has what it takes to get the win. There is a chance that this won’t happen at all or at least not start right on time depending on the snow situation in Arizona. If they get underway, I think Schwartzel has a good chance to move on. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

Feb 22, 2012; Marana, AZ, USA; Tiger Woods searches for his ball on the 10th hole after hitting his drive into the desert during the first round of the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship at Ritz-Carlton GC. Mandatory Credit: Allan Henry-USA TODAY Sports

11:50- Any Other Result: It’s impossible to win a match play match in less than 10 holes so the question is if Tiger can close Charles Howell out in the first 16 holes or not. I think Tiger wins, but I don’t think its a rout. Woods has lost in the first round recently and Howell should at least give him a run until late. The snow situation could cloud matters and start time, but I think AOR is the way to go if/when this one gets underway. Confidence Meter: 3

3:05- Bordeaux: Bordeaux and Dynamo Kiev face off in this second leg of the UEFA Europa League round of 32. The French team is -180 to advance. Bordeaux earned a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Kiev and just need a 0-0 draw or a win to advance. They’ve kept a clean sheet in three of their last five home matches in ligue one and have a  4-6-2 record at home. The most likely result is 0-0, but Bordeaux can move on with other results too. I think they’re the best play in the soccer picks. Confidence Meter: 4

7:00- Washington Capitals: The Caps and Devils meet headed in opposite directions. New Jersey is just 1-2-1 in their last four games while Washington had won three in a row before losing Sunday to the Rangers. The Caps have been really good on the power play lately and Braden Holtby has been solid in net. New Jersey is still a very good team, but Martin Brodeur has struggled lately in Washington. I’ll take the Caps with momentum at home. Confidence Meter: 3

7:00- Philadelphia Flyers: I got burned on this very pick Thursday, February 7 when the Panthers got a win in a shootout in Philadelphia. The teams have both struggled at times this year but the Flyers have racked up 13 goals in their last two games including knocking off the Penguins in Pittsburgh 6-5 last night. The Panthers, meanwhile, have lost five in a row since beating the Flyers in that shootout and have a road record of just 2-4-1. Confidence Meter: 7

7:05- Arkansas wins by Double Digits: While Georgia has been playing much better as of late, winning six of their last nine games in conference play, Arkansas is a really good team at home. They’ve won all but one of their home games with their one loss coming in non-conference play to Syracuse. They demolished Florida at Bud Walton Arean earlier this month and have won nine of their home games by double digits including three of their last four. Arkansas has won their last two, while Georgia has lost their last two. Confidence Meter: 5

7:05- Cincinnati Bearcats: Cincinnati and UConn face off in a pick-em game tonight in Hartford. The Bearcats should be able to control the glass and use their size inside to get this win. The Huskies have been maddeningly inconsistent winning over Syracuse at home and then losing to Villanova. The Cats lost their last game too, but it was to red-hot Georgetown. Both these teams are hard to figure out, but what is for sure is that this should be a good, close game. Confidence Meter: 4

7:30- Boston Bruins: The Bruins skate tonight against the Lightning in Tampa. Boston is 5-1-1 on the road and their only regulation losses have been against their rival Buffalo Sabres. Tampa was played as well as Boston early in the season but lost six in a row before winning their last two. Tampa is 6-2-1 at home and remains the league leader in goals scored per game. They rank 23rd in goals against and the Bruins will be looking to take advantage of the Lightning’s sometimes-sketchy defense. The B’s could be short-handed due to an outbreak of the flu, so make sure to check availability of their key players before gametime. I’ll do my best to keep you updated on twitter @FantasyCPR. Confidence Meter: 4

8:10- Chicago Bulls: The Heat are on the road against a tough Chicago team that always plays them close. In fact, Chicago won in Miami earlier this season 96-89. Miami is extremely hot right now and come in as three-point favorites even though they’re playing in back-to-back nights. I think the Bulls will be able to get the win here to keep Miami from winning its ninth in a row. Confidence Meter: 2.5

9:05- Oregon winning Margin or Tie: The Ducks host Cal who beat them by four in Berkeley earlier this season. The Ducks are favored by five, and the Golden Bears only average about four three-pointers a game which is the amount they made in their earlier win over Oregon. At home, Oregon is pretty good with only one loss all year and that was by one point to Colorado. I think they’ll win by 8-10 while Cal hits four of five three’s. Confidence Meter: 6

9:30- Minnesota Wild: The Wild look to keep their momentum after a nice home win over Detroit on Sunday. They’ve struggled to get a good string going all year which has also been a problem for their opponent in tonight’s game the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers have lost seven of their last nine including a loss on Tuesday to the Kings. The Wild should be more well-rested and the extra practice time should allow this newly-assembled team to gel. I think they’re the better team, but they haven’t shown it much this year making taking them on the road an iffy proposition. Confidence Meter: 3

10:40- LA Clippers: The Clippers have beaten the Spurs in both their meetings this season and now have a fully healthy roster with Chauncey Billups back. The Clippers are three-point favorites at home and I think they’ll look to open the second half with a statement win over the red-hot Spurs. San Antonio played two nights ago in Sacramento, while the Clippers haven’t played since before the break. Confidence Meter: 6

11:05- Saint Mary’s wins by Double Digits: The Gaels have been great in the West Coast Conference losing only to Gonzaga twice. Tonight they’ll take on BYU who they beat by one earlier this season in a thriller in Provo. They’ve won ten of 11 overall with six of those wins coming by double digits. Lately, the Cougars haven’t fared as well losing tow of their last four to San Diego by six and San Francisco by 12. The San Francisco loss was their sixth of the season by double digits. Saint Mary’s is clearly one of the best teams in the WCC while BYU has faded from that group after an early season surge. Confidence Meter: 5
