ESPN Streak for the Cash February 23 Picks and Analysis

In ESPN Streak for the Cash today there’s plenty of good options, but the Oklahoma State Cowboys and guard Marcus Smart (33) are one of the best options on the board today as they travel to Morgantown to take on West Virginia. Mandatory Credit: Brendan Maloney-USA TODAY Sports

It’s the final Saturday in February and as usual Streak for the Cash brings it with a ton of matches and options from around the world of sports. This morning there’s an EPL starter followed by some Match Play action from Dove Mountain. This afternoon is jam-packed with hockey and college hoops from around the country, and then tonight has  more NHL picks mixed with more college hoops as well as some NBA picks. The schedule wraps up tonight with a pair of matchups from UFC 157.

I’m not sure if its due to the end of the month looming without any super-long streaks or some other reason, but there seem to be some picks to be more confident in than usual as you can tell from my confidence meter ratings. However, due to lack of time and the amount of picks, I’ll need to keep the analysis brief.

Streak Picks for 2/23

7:45- Stoke City win or draw: Fulham and Stoke City kick things off across the pond today. Stoke has earned a win or draw in two of their last three, but have played an absolutely brutal schedule lately. Earlier this season they beat Fulham 1-0 at home and getting the draw makes them the pick here. Fulham has only won outright one of their last five EPL games and two of their last eight overall. Confidence Meter: 6

9:22- Matt Kuchar: Analysis coming soon in my picks for the day. Confidence Meter: 4

12:00- New Jersey Devils: The Devils beat the Capitals 3-2 on Thursday and face them again this afternoon. New Jersey has won the last six meetings between these teams and haven’t had to go anywhere which may minimize the “road” feel of this game. Washington is not the mess they were earlier this season, but they’re still not in the Devils class of the Eastern Conference. Confidence Meter: 5

12:03- Clemson wins or single-digit Loss: As Clemson takes on Maryland, the Terps are only six-point favorites. Getting the extra 3 1/2 points is nice especially when you remember that Clemson only lost to Miami by two in their last game and to NC State by just one last week. In between they won on the road at Georgia Tech. Clemson has some ugly road losses at Virginia and Duke but have been within 10 in all the rest of their conference losses. Maryland is a solid team especially at home but they lost by 11 to BC earlier this week and 11 to Virginia at home last week. I think this will be a low-scoring, close game that Maryland wins but doesn’t cover this spread. Confidence Meter: 6

1:30- LSU Tigers: The Tigers are really good at home, like their more renowned football team, having lost just to Florida and South Carolina at home at the beginning of SEC play. They’ve won their last four at home and almost won at Alabama only losing by three. They’re favored by just two, but I think they’ll be able to get the win here since they’re at home. Confidence Meter: 4

2:00- Georgia Winning Margin: The Bulldogs are favored by 7 1/2 at home as they take on South Carolina. SC has dropped nine of their last 11 and have lost  most of those by large margins especially on the road. They did get a one-point win over Ole Miss in their last game, but the Bulldogs are a good enough team that I think they’ll win this by ten or more. Confidence Meter: 7

2:00- Oklahoma State: The Cowboys look to bounce back from a tough loss to Kansas as they head to Morgantown to take on West Virginia. WVU is 6-7 in Big 12 play including a 14-point loss to Oklahoma State in Stillwater earlier this season. They’ve won three of their last four home games, but on the year they’ve lost to both ranked teams they’ve played at home and also dropped a game to Oklahoma. The Cowboys offense will be too much for the Mountaineers who have struggled all season. Confidence Meter: 6

3:30- Phoenix  Coyotes: The Coyotes head to Edmonton looking to avenge their overtime loss eralier this season. They haven’t played since Monday when they won their fourth time in their last five games. Meanwhile, the Oilers have lost three of four on this homestand and are coming off a pair of 3-1 defeats at the hands of the Kings and the Wild. Confidence Meter: 5

4:05- Georgetown 3-pointers made or tie: Syracuse are seven-point favorites as they host the Hoyas in one of the Big East’s best rivalries. The two titans have met  87 times since 1930 with 20 games being decided by two points or fewer, 39 by five or fewer and 12 in overtime. This one should be another close, hard-fought game that could easily go either way. Georgetown could easily win this game outright coming in having won eight in a row including some nice road wins over Notre Dame and Cincinnati and home wins over ranked Marquette and Louisville. In the end though, the emotion of the game and a record crowd will be enough for the Orange to get the win I think, but I don’t know they’ll cover this prop over the Hoyas who average 5.5 three’s a game. Confidence Meter: 4

5:00- Oklahoma: The Sooners welcome Baylor to Norman where they’ll look to win their third straight home game. They’ve won three of their last four including a win over then-#5 Kansas with their only loss coming in overtime at Oklahoma State. The Sooners have already knocked off Baylor once back on January 30 when they went to Waco and got the win. That was the start of a three-game slide for Baylor and since that time they’ve lost five of seven including their last two. OU is 9-2 at home and Baylor is only 3-5 on the road. I’m surprised the spread is only 3 1/2, but I’ll go with the favored Sooners. Confidence Meter: 5

6:00- California Golden Bears: Cal has suddenly emerged as the hottest team in the Pac-12 winning six of their last seven including road wins over ranked Arizona and Oregon. They’ll head to Oregon State tonight who are just 3-11 in Pac-12 play. They’ve lost their last two home games and their last two overall, so I think the Golden Bears have a good chance to keep their streak rolling even though they’re only favored by one. Confidence Meter: 6

7:00- Buffalo Sabres: The Sabres host the Islanders as both teams try to bounce back from rough starts. New York has won three of their last five but did just play an overtime game in Montreal two night’s ago. They’ll travel to Buffalo tonight where the Sabres will try to get their first win for interim coach Ron Rolston after Lindy Ruff was was fired Wednesday. Because they’re at home, I think the Sabres get the win here, but I’m not very confidence in it. Confidence Meter: 3

7:00- Montreal Canadiens: The Canadiens lost Thursday but had been rolling before that as they’ve moved atop the Northeast Division. They’ve gone 7-3-1 at home this year as they look to get back on track against the inconsistent New York Rangers. Both teams last played on Thursday when both lost in overtime. Montreal is in the top 10 in goals per game and goals against while the Rangers rank outside the top ten in both categories. Confidence Meter: 6

7:30- Indiana Pacers: The Pacers have won all three of their matchups this year with Detroit and are three-point favorites as they go to the Palace tonight. Last night, Indiana won by 32 at home over the Pistons and have opened with dominating home wins over New York and Detroit. I think they’ll win (but not by 30) on the road tonight. Confidence Meter: 8

8:00- Stanford Cardinal: The Oregon Ducks lost on a last-second shot from Cal earlier this week and will look to bounce back as they host the Stanford Cardinal tonight. Oregon is a five-point favorite, but have struggled mightily without their starting point guard Dominic Artis. Oregon is 15-2 at home, but they’ve been struggling to score finishing with just 46 in their loss on Thursday. Stanford had no problem scoring or stopping the Ducks in their first meeting as Stanford got a huge 76-52 win. The Cardinal have been inconsistent throughout the Pac-12 season but have won their last two as well as three of their last four on the road. Based on their previous results and Oregon’s current struggles, I think Stanford has a decent shot to get this win in Eugene. Confidence Meter: 3 1/2

9:05- Missouri Tigers: Picking Mizzou on the road has led to the end of many streaks so far this season. The Tigers have lost at Arkansas, LSU, Texas A&M, Florida, Ole Miss, and UCLA. Their only road win was at SEC bottom-dweller Mississippi State. Tonight they’ll head to Kentucky as the Wildcats look to continue without injured Nerlens Noel. They were able to win against visiting Vanderbilt their last time out, but the Tigers got a huge win over Florida which makes me think they can overcome the Wildcats. Confidence Meter: 3

10:00- Minnesota Wild: The Wild  have already won in Calgary this season taking a 2-1 win over the Flames in a shootout February 11. Minnesota won Thursday in Edmonton to move to 4-1-1 in their last six and appear to be headed in the right direction as their newly-assembled team starts to gel. The Flames have struggled to gain any kind of momentum this season and are just 5-7-3 overall and 2-5-2 at home. Minnesota’s goaltender Niklas Backstrom has dominated Calgary over the course of his career and will look to continue tonight. Confidence Meter: 7

10:05- Ohio 3-pointers made: Ohio travels to Nashville to take on the Belmont Bruins who are favored by seven. This should be a high-scoring and entertaining game since both teams average over 74 points a game. Belmont has dominated the Ohio Valley Conference going 12-2 but both of their losses came in their last four games. Ohio has also played well in conference going 11-1 in the MAC with their only loss coming at Akron. The Bobcats average 8.2 three-pointers a game and have three players who have hit over 40 led by leading scorer D.J. Cooper. Since the Bobcats make a bunch of three’s and I think this one will end up close, I’ll take them in this prop. Confidence Meter: 6
