ESPN Streak for the Cash February 24 Picks and Analysis

In one of today’s better Streak for the Cash picks, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and forward Jack Cooley will look to crank up the defensive pressure and beat the Cincinnati Bearcats. Find out who else I think makes the best picks of the day below. Mandatory Credit: Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

With February quickly fading away, it’s time to be aggressive with your ESPN Streak for the Cash picks, and thankfully the board has been cooperative with some solid picks the last few days-a trend which continues today. There’s plenty of variety in today’s options with picks from the EPL, NBA, Daytona 500, NHL, and men’s and women’s college hoops.

Yesterday my confident picks did well and I was able to get some green flowing until the end of the day when Ohio made it all for naught as they got beat up by Belmont. I was able to bounce back and get the green with Ronda Rousey Hopefully, I can get the green back today with these picks:

Streak Picks for 2/24

8:30- Manchester City Win: The second and third place teams in the EPL meet in Etihad Stadium. Man United is on the verge or running away with the title and both teams could definitely use the full three-points to chase down the Red Devils while also staying clear of a tight race for the last Champions League spots. City has been fading lately going just 0-2-1 in their last three EPL games, but Chelsea hasn’t fared much better  and just played three days ago in an uninspiring performance against Sparta Prague. In their last three EPL games, they are 1-1-1 with their only win coming at home. The two teams played to a 0-0 draw earlier this season with Chelsea as the home team, and since then pressure has only built on the struggling manager Rafa Benitez. He has admitted the amount of matches are taking their toll on him and the team, and I don’t think they’ll be able to pull out the draw in this one. At home, City is 9-3-1 this season. Confidence Meter: 3

9:05- Matt Kuchar: Full golf Analysis coming later today. Confidence Meter: 5

9:20- Hunter Mahan: Check out all my Accenture picks on the front page at 8:30. Confidence Meter: 4

Feb 22, 2013; New Orleans, LA, USA; Dallas Mavericks guard Mike James (13) and forward Dirk Nowitzki (left) reach for a loose ball in front of New Orleans Hornets forward Jason Smith during the second half at the New Orleans Arena. Dallas defeated New Orleans 104-100. Mandatory Credit: Crystal LoGiudice-USA TODAY Sports

1:00- Dallas Mavericks: The Lakers head to Dallas as three-point underdogs but heavy Streak pickers favorites. The Lakers have won their last two since the break, but both were at home in the Staples Center. They’ll have their hands full with a Dallas squad that’s won five of their last six. LA has been dreadful on the road this year at just 9-18 while the Mavs are 16-10 at home. Both teams are pushing to close in on the last playoff spot, and since this game is in Dallas I give them the advantage. Confidence Meter: 5

1:10- Any Other Driver: I’m not a huge racing fan and this will lock an entry for most of the afternoon, so I’ll probably avoid this pick. If I were to take it though, I definitely would go with the field of 40 over the three in a race that always seems to contain some serious surprises. Confidence Meter: 4

2:00- Notre Dame Fighting Irish: The Irish host Cincinnati as 2 1/2 point favorites. Don’t let the ranking affect your pick at all, but the Irish have been solid all year at home and are coming off a solid come-from-behind win at Pitt. The Irish are 15-2 at home and have won six of eight including three over top-20 teams. Meanwhile, the Bearcats are trending the other direction having lost four of five and three of their last four on the road. Cashmere Wright who starred for Cincinnati early in the season has struggled of late, and the Bearcats tend to be very reliant on the outside shot. The Irish seem to be a more total team and rank 2nd in the country in assists. I think they’ll find a way to get this win at home to stay close to the top of the Big East heap. Confidence Meter: 6

3:30- Golden State Warriors: The Warriors hit the road to take on Minnesota in this mid-afternoon NBA start.  They’ve already defeated Minnesota twice this year, once in Minneapolis. Golden State opened with a pair of nice wins at home and will now try and translate that into road success. Without Kevin Love, the Wolves have struggled winning just three of their last 10 games. The Warriors are only favored by one, but I think they’ll get this road win since their playing better and neither team is on the second half of back-2-back. Confidence Meter: 5

Feb 15, 2013; Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA; Vancouver Canucks left wing Mason Raymond (21) during the first period against the Dallas Stars at Rogers Arena. The Dallas Stars won 4-3. Mandatory Credit: Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

5:00- Vancouver Canucks: Vancouver looks like the class of the Northwest division once again and are an impressive 5-1-2 on the road this season as they head to Joe Louis Arena to face the Red Wings. Detroit hasn’t had the same success as they have in the past and they just played last night. The Wings won 4-0 behind a big game from goaltender Jimmy Howard. Howard may or may not play today, but either way I think the Canucks are the better team and will be more well-rested. Confidence Meter: 6

6:00- Florida State Seminoles: The Seminoles travel to Blacksburg to play Virginia Tech. In conference play, the Hokies are just 2-11 having lost their last nine in a row. The Seminoles have fared better, but not by much losing three of their last four as they’ve dropped to 6-7 in the ACC. The ‘Noles are favored on the road but only by one, so don’t assume this game is an easy one since Florida State is just 3-5 on the road. I do think in the end that FSU will get the win, but it’s far from a lock. Confidence Meter: 5

7:00- New York Islanders: The Isles have won two in a row as they start their seven-game homestand against the Hurricanes. Carolina already won once at the Nassau Coliseum, but have lost their last three after losing last night at home to Tampa Bay 5-2. New York is 2-6-0 at home, but they’re definitely the team playing better so I think they’ll get the win. Confidence Meter: 4

8:00- Wagner Seahawks: The Seahawks are favored by five as they host the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds. Wagner won at LIU by 11 so at home they should be able to complete their sweep of the season series and move into the group chasing Robert Morris for the lead in the Northeast standings. Confidence Meter: 7

9:00- Portland Trail Blazers: The Blazers are two-point favorites as they host Boston tonight at the Rose Garden. While Boston got a big win on the road in Phoenix their last time out, they are still just 9-17 on the road. The Blazers, in contrast, are 17-9 at home . The Blazers have dropped their last seven in a row but almost beat the Lakers their last time out and only one of those seven games have been at home. To me, Portland is a good home team and a bad road team while Boston seems to always struggle out West. The C’s started the second half with this four-game swing and their only win so far was over the Suns. Portland matches up well with Boston and I think they’ll get this win simply because its at home. Confidence Meter: 3

9:40- Thunder win by Double Digits: The Thunder are nine-point favorites as they host the Bulls. They just snapped their three game losing mini-streak by beating the Timberwolves by 16. Chicago won their last game at Charlotte but lost to the Heat at home by 19 earlier this week. The problem I have with the Bulls is their difficulty scoring. They average just 92.9 points per game which is only 28th in the league. In contrast, the Thunder lead the league in scoring with 106.7 points per game. With Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook playing at a high-level, I don’t think the Bulls have anyone who can score enough to keep them in the game and that the Thunder will win big at home. Confidence Meter: 6
