ESPN Streak for the Cash, February 26 picks and Analysis

In tonight’s Streak for the Cash picks, the Florida Gators and guard Kenny Boynton head to Tennessee to take on the Volunteers in SEC action. Find my pick and other’s for this February 26 in the post below. Mandatory Charity: Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

After some intense college hoops yesterday highlighted by a crazy ISU-KU game, Streak for the Cash approaches the end of the month with another full day of tennis, soccer, hockey, and hoops. Even though it’s not “Big Monday” there’s a pair of top ten teams on the road in tonight’s college hoops action. Florida and Indiana have props and game-picks along with the NHL and NBA action on the slate for tonight. Here’s the picks I’m watching:

Streak Picks 2/26

10:00- 5 games or Fewer: This prop is for the number of games Novak Djokovic will lose when he faces Viktor Troicki in the ATP Dubai Tennis Championships. Unlike yesterday’s Federer prop, there’s plenty of history between these two. The two have faced off 13 times with Troicki winning in July of 2007 and losing every time since. In their last meeting, Troicki won seven games, but that was in three sets while today’s match will only require two, assuming Djokovic doesn’t pull a Federer and lose the first set. In the 12 matches the Djoker has won, 10 have been this best of three format and in five Djokovic has lost five games or fewer. Recently, Troicki has been trending downward while Djokovic has been dominant. It’s not a lock based on their past, but based on current form Djokovic is a strong pick. Confidence Meter: 5

2:45- Any Other Result: Everton hosts Oldham in this FA Cup match. I do think Everton will win this match especially since they’re at home. However two and a half goals in this prop is a lot to give especially since Oldham held Everton 2-2 at home just 10 days ago 2-2. The oddsmakers would agree putting AOR in his prop at -167. Confidence Meter: 4

3:00- Barcelona Win: Barca at home is a -150 favorite as they host Real Madrid in the second leg of the Copa Del Ray Semifinals. Barcelona is coming off a tough loss at AC Milan in the Champions League and will need to make a home statement as they get ready for back-to-back games against their rival. The first leg resulted in a 1-1 draw, but Messi and Barcelona will be ready to get the win at Camp Nou in this one. Confidence Meter: 3

Feb 23, 2013; Dallas, TX, USA; Dallas Stars left wing Jamie Benn (14) takes the ice to face the San Jose Sharks at the American Airlines Center. The Stars defeated the Sharks 3-1. Mandatory Credit: Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

7:00- Dallas Stars: The Stars travel to Columbus to take on the Blue Jackets who have slain the leaderboard repeatedly in this abbreviated NHL season. I don’t think they’ll bee able to tonight against the Stars. Columbus has had trouble scoring ranking 29th in the league with just 2.05 goals per game and a league-worst 12 points. The Stars have been scoring lately, but have struggled to compensate for the loss of starting goalie Kari Lehtonen. Columbus lost their last game on Sunday while Dallas got a nice win at home over the Sharks on Saturday. The Stars are playing on back-to-back nights after losing in overtime to the Predators last night. Dallas has the talent to score, and the Blue Jackets anemic offense will let them hide their backup goalie enough to get the win. Confidence Meter: 4

7:02- Indiana winning Margin or Tie: The Hoosiers are favored by six as they head to The Barn to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers. For this prop it’s the Indiana winning margin against the Gophers three-pointers made. The Gophers don’t hit lots of three’s averaging just 5.2 per game, but they did pile up the three-pointers in their first game against the Hoosiers as they hit a huge 11. The Hoosiers won that game in Bloomington by seven, but the teams have headed opposite directions as of late. Indiana is #1 again this week  and is coming off a pair of nice road-wins over Ohio State by 13 and Michigan State by 4. Meanwhile, Minnesota has tumbled out of th rankings losing four of five including getting thoroughly beaten in their last two at Iowa and Ohio State. They play much better at home and this prop should be close, but ultimately I think the Hoosiers win by 10+ while the Gophers make 5-7 three’s. Confidence Meter: 6

7:03- 18 points or more: This prop is for the total points in the first half for Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller. Zeller is averaging 16.6 points per game and has 16 or more in each of his last four games. Oladipo averages 14.0 meaning the averages would put under as the favorite since they average 30.6 which is only 15.3 at halftime. That being stated, Oladipo has been stepping it up lately, and since I think this game will be close in the first half I think this will be over. Confidence Meter: 3

Feb. 20, 2013; Tuscaloosa, AL, USA; Alabama Crimson Tide forward Devonta Pollard (24) dunks the ball between Mississippi State Bulldog guards Craig Sword (32) and Fred Thomas (1) during the second half at Coleman Coliseum. Alabama won 64-56. Mandatory Credit: Kelly Lambert-USA TODAY Sports

7:04- Alabama Winning Magin or Tie: ‘Bama hosts Auburn as they look to avenge their earlier SEC loss as the Tigers won by eight at Auburn for one of their three conference wins. Alabama dropped a tough three point overtime game on the road at LSU their last time out but has won eight in a row at home in Coleman Coliseum. They’re favored by 11 1/2 against Auburn who has lost 11 out of 12 and on the road they’ve been losing by big margins. The prop is for Auburn’s made FT against the winning margin. Auburn averages 14 free throws made per game, so this will likely be close but I think it’s more likely that ‘Bama blows them out than that Auburn keeps it close. Confidence Meter: 4

8:05- New Orleans Hornets: The Nets have dropped their last two games as they hed to New Orleans to take on the Hornets. The Hornets are 7-4 in their last 11 at home and are coming off a convincing win over the visiting Kings. Joe Johnson is a game time decision, and eseically if he doesn’t play I think the Hornets are the right pickConfidence Meter: 3

9:05- Florida wins by Double Digits: The Gators are9 1/2 point favorites as they travel to Tennessee to take on the Vols. Florida has dropped a pair of games on the road in their last three conference games away from Gainesville. When Florida has won, it’s usually by big margins with no team staying within 10 in any of their 22 wins. Florida’s pressure defense and three-point offense wil be a tough challenge for Tennessee who played a four-overtime game just three days ago. Florida on the road is less than a lock right now, but the Vols five-game winning streak has come against competition with much less bite than the Gators. Confidence Meter: 7

9:07- Phoenix Suns: This could get ugly as the two of the bottom teams in the Western Conference face off in Phoenix. The Suns are 1 1/2 point favorites and have actually been 12-15 at home despite losing to Golden State in their most recent home game. The Wolves have been especially bad on the road losing 13 of their last 15 away from home. The Wolves took the first game of the season but that was in Minnesota. Since this one’s at US Airways Center, I think the Suns have the advantage. Confidence Meter: 5
