ESPN Streak for the Cash, March 10 Picks and Analysis

In ESPN’s Streak for the Cash today, the Anaheim Ducks make a great pick tonight at home behind goalie Viktor Fasth  as they take on the St. Louis Blues. Find the rest of my picks for today right here. Mandatory Credit: Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Sunday’s another big Streak for the Cash day with plenty more college hoops picks to come joining the English and French soccer picks, the NHL picks, a NASCAR team prop, another Tiger prop, and the featured NBA games. After a rough start, my picks bounced back for a solid showing yesterday, so hopefully I can build on that success with more greens for everyone today.  For the picks added later, I’ll give my picks on twitter so follow @FantasyCPR for all the late-breaking tourney picks. Here’s the one’s on the board right now that I like:

3/10 Streak Picks

9:00- Montpellier win/draw: Nice hosts Montpellier in French Ligue 1 to get things started today. The two teams are separated by just one point in the table with Nice 12-9-6 overall with 45 points and Monpellier 13-5-9 with 44 points. Nice got thumped 4-0 in their last league game but has won three of four before that. Montpellier has won their last three  and have earned at least a draw in five of their last six. They beat Nice 3-1 at home earlier this season, and I think they’ll be able to get at least a draw as they head to Municipal du Ray this morning. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

Mar 6, 2013; Richmond, VA, USA; Virginia Commonwealth Rams guard Darius Theus (10) and Rams guard Briante Weber (2) celebrate in the final minute against the Richmond Spiders at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. The Rams won 93-82. Mandatory Credit: Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

12:00- VCU Rams: The Rams are two point favorites as they travel to Temple to close out their A-10 regular season. The Owls won’t make things easy on VCU as they’ve won six in a row to try and get into the NCAA Tournament. A win over the Rams would look good on Temple’s resume, but I think they’ll ultimately fall short. They’ve lost at home already this season to Duquesne and St. Bonaventure, and their recent streak has been against teams behind them in the A-10 standings. VCU can tie St. Louis atop those standings and earn a share of the regular season title with a win in this games. Coach Shaka Smart has his team playing at an impressive level and I think they’ll make some noise come tournament time, but first I think they’ll dispatch Temple in their regular season finale. Confidence Meter: 5

12:30- Manchester United Win: Man U hosts Chelsea in the FA Cup in this sixth round matchup. Both teams are coming off bad results in European play, but Man U will be upset after its unjust (at least according to some) loss to Real Madrid. Chelsea is struggling overall and need the win most, but Man U is just too good to lose back-to-back at Old Trafford. A draw is a possibility, but I think the Red Devils get the win here especially at home. Confidence Meter: 4

12:30- Washington Capitals: The Caps and Rangers are the NBC featured Sunday afternoon game as they both come off losses that snapped their recent winning streaks. The Rangers lost to Ottawa on Friday after winning four in a row, and the Capitals lost last night at the New York Islanders ending their mini three-game winning streak. Washington has still won five of their last seven. The Capitals had a horrible start to the year but have shown signs of bouncing back. They have won their last four home games by an aggregate score of 19-5 and I think they’ll extend that run even though they are playing on back-to-back days. The Caps started goalie Philipp Grubauer yesterday afternoon and should be back to normal starter Braden Holtby tonight. Confidence Meter: 3

12:30- Ohio State wins by Double Digits: The Buckeyes can finish the Big 10 regular season with a tie for first if they can avenge their early-season thumping at the hands of the Illini in Champaign. Illinois was ranked #11 when they housed then-#8 Ohio State back on January 5. Since then, the Illini have struggled while Ohio State has been good at home and is coming off a big win on the road. The Buckeyes have won five of their last six and will need to avoid a letdown after beating Indiana in Bloomington on Tuesday. Illinois has lost their last two road games at Iowa and Michigan and are 8-9 in conference play after a promising start to the year. The Illini are just 6-5 on the road while the Buckeyes are 15-2 at home. Ohio State will have plenty of motivation to win, run up the score, and finish the season with a resounding home win over Illinois, and since they’re favored by ten I think they’ll cover in this prop. Confidence Meter: 6

2:40- Tiger wins by 2+ strokes: Tiger is currently up by four strokes on Graeme McDowell and five strokes over Phil and Steve Stricker. The way Tiger has been putting, I don’t see any of them closing the gap to within two. Tiger knows how to close and this week has been as close to “vintage” Tiger as we’ve seen in a while. Confidence Meter: 5

Mar 6, 2013; New Orleans, LA, USA; Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant (24) dunks the ball against the New Orleans Hornets during the end of the fourth quarter at the New Orleans Arena. Los Angeles defeated New Orleans 108-102. Mandatory Credit: Crystal LoGiudice-USA TODAY Sports

3:30- LA Lakers: The Lakers host the Chicago Bulls at the Staples Center as 5 1/2 point favorites. The Bulls beat the Lakers in their first meeting, but the Lakers are playing better lately winning four of their last five. Chicago lost their last two road games at Indiana and San Antonio and only beat the Jazz by one at home their last time out. The Lakers can be horrible, but they’re pushing for a playoff spot, and with the Bulls still waiting for Derrick Rose to save them I think Kobe and company get this win at home. Confidence Meter: 4

4:00- Michigan Wolverines: The Big 10 finishes with a bang as the second-ranked Hoosiers go on the road to face Michigan at the Crisler Center. Michigan has a chance to finish the season unbeaten at home but has lost four of their last nine overall since Indiana beat them in Bloomington early in February. They have bounced back to win four of their last five. Indiana has won some big road games over then-#4 Michigan Staten and then-#10 Ohio State. They’ve struggled a bit lately though going just 1-2 straight up in their last three games and 0-3 against the spread. The Wolverines can earn a share of the Big 10 regular season title along with Indiana, Michigan State, and Ohio State if they get the win at home. I think Michigan gets the win since they’re at home and favored by 1 1/2. Confidence Meter: 6

6:00- Montreal Canadiens: Montreal is on top of the Eastern Conference standings after a 3-1-0 road trip so far as they close it out in Sunrise tonight against the Panthers. Montreal has beaten Florida twice already this season and are an impressive 8-2-2 on the road. The only caution to note here is that the Habs played last night in Tampa where they stormed back and scored three in the third to get a 4-3 win. The Panthers should be more rested since they haven’t played since Friday but have lost five of their last six and still rank last in the league in goals against per game and in penalty kill percentage. Confidence Meter: 7

7:00- New Orleans Hornets: The Hornets are 2 1/2 point favorites as they host the Blazers but are getting no love from streak pickers as the sheep flock to Portland. The Blazers are good at home, but they  are just 9-22 on the road. New Orleans just played last night and lost at Memphis and they blew a game to the Lakers in their last home game. This is more of a warning to stay away than a pick I’ll actually make, but I’d suggest you don’t follow the crowd going with Portland since I think they’re in for a letdown.  Confidence Meter: 2

7:00- Winnipeg Jets: The Jets land in New Jersey as they face the Devils for the third time in the last two weeks. Winnipeg has played their last three games on the road and have gone 2-1 on the trip moving up to second in the Southeast Division. Winnipeg has beaten the Devils both times while New Jersey has lost seven of eight. Their only win in that time came in a shootout against Buffalo in their last home game. The Jets haven’t played since Friday’s overtime win over Florida while the Devils lost at Carolina last night. Winnipeg makes a good pick on the road against the Devils who still appear lost without Martin Brodeur. Confidence Meter: 6

8:00- Anaheim Ducks: The Ducks return to the pond to take on the Blues as they look to win their 11th straight game at the Honda Center. To make that happen, they’ll have to beat the Blues who are a solid 8-4-1 on the road including a road win at San Jose in overtime yesterday afternoon. The Ducks haven’t played since Friday and don’t play again until Tuesday so expect Viktor Fasth to get the start after a shutout on Friday against Calgary. The Ducks at home have been too good to pick against especially with the Blues playing a back-to-back. Confidence Meter: 7

9:00- Sacramento Kings: The Milwaukee Bucks are on a back-to-back as well as they travel to Sacramento to take on the Kings. Milwaukee got a nice win last night against the Warriors at ORACLE Arena, and now conclue their three-game West Coast swing against the Kings at Sleep Train Arena. At home, the Kings are 16-14 on the year and 4-2 in their last six home games including wins over Utah, Houston, Charlotte, and in their last game Phoenix. The Kings are favored by one at home, and since the Bucks are playing in back-to-back nights I think they’re the better pick here. Confidnece Meter: 3

Mar, 3, 2013; Portland, OR, USA; New York Red Bulls midfielder Juninho (8) heads the ball against the Portland Timbers at Jeld-Wen Field. Mandatory Credit: Scott Olmos-USA TODAY Sports

10:05- New York Red Bulls win or Draw: The Red Bulls earned a 3-3 draw on the road in Portland in their season opener and they’ll face another tough matchup as they head to San Jose to take on the Earthquakes. San Jose dropped their first game at home 2-0 to visiting Real Salt Lake but did have the most points in the regular season last year. I think the Red Bulls have a good shot at winning this one since the Quake were in bad form last week. It’s hard to tell though with just one game in the books so far this season. Confidence Meter: 5
