ESPN Streak for the Cash, March 15 Picks and Analysis

In one of the early picks on today’s Streak for the Cash board, the Michigan Wolverines led by guard Trey Burke (3) will take on the  Wisconsin Badgers and guard Traevon Jackson (left) at the Big 10 Tournament. Wisconsin defeated Michigan 65-62 in overtime earlier this season, but can Burke and the Wolverines flip the script today? Find my free sports picks below. Friday’s picks may be late in being posted, but there’s going to be plenty to pick all day long on “Super Friday.” Most of the picks will probably be from college hoops, but there’s also options from the PGA tour, the BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament, and the NHL. Here’s the picks that are on the board so far, with more to come I’m sure. When picks get added later I’ll tweet my picks from @FantasyCPR.

Streak Picks 3/15

8:40- Jason Day or tie: Adam Scott and Jason Day face off in this all-Aussie nine-hole prop. Both are solid players playing well and sit in the top 15 in the Tampa Bay Championship with a -1 in the first round. Scott was -2 over these nine holes in day 1 while Day was -1. With so little separating the two, it’s always better to take the player with the tie. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

Mar 13, 2013; Greensboro, NC, USA; Miami Hurricanes guard Shane Larkin (0) during the practice day at Greensboro Coliseum. Mandatory Credit: Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

12:03- Miami wins by Double Digits: What a difference location makes. In Miami, the Hurricanes won by 22 but in Chestnut Hill the ‘Canes only were able to win by one. Since this will be at a neutral site in Greensboro, it makes sense that the margin of victory for Miami will be between the two. Vegas agrees putting Miami as 7 1/2 point favorites. This prop puts the number at 9 1/2, but I think Miami will still be able to cover and get the win. They’ll have to be ready for Olivier Hanlan who set the ACC tournament record for single-game scoring by a freshman with 41 points against Georgia Tech yesterday. BC will need another huge game from him to keep this one close, but I think ultimately Coach Jim Larranaga’s team will be too much for the Eagles. Miami hasn’t blown people out on the road, but on this neutral court they should be ready to follow up their Regular Season title with a strong showing in the conference tourney. Confidence Meter: 3

1:03- Any Other Result: The Gators are favored by 15 as they face LSU who they beat by 18 in their earlier meeting this season at LSU. Florida crushed teams at home but struggled outside of Gainesville. Florida lost their last three road games and finished the year with a loss at Kentucky. the Tigers also finished the regular season with a loss, but beat Georgia in their first round game. They’ve actually won four of their last six and have only lost one game by 15 or more since Florida beat them by 18 which was 17 games ago with a 10-7 record overall. I think the Gators will win, but that LSU will be able to stay within 15. Confidence Meter: 4

2:30- Michigan Wolverines: The Wolverines avenged their loss to Penn State in their last game in the Big 10 tournament and now will face another team they lost to on the road in the quarterfinals. On February 9, the Wisconsin Badgers knocked off Michigan 65-62 after hitting a buzzer beater at the end of regulation. Today Michigan is favored by 3 1/2 as they meet again. Michigan stumbled a bit down the stretch, but is still ranked #6 and have one of the best backcourts in the nation. On the other side, the Badgers also struggled at the end of the season losing two of their last three and barely escaped the Nittany Lions in their last game. Wisconsin is a solid team at home, but I don’t think they’ll be able to beat Michigan for the second time this season since they’ll meet on a neutral court in Chicago today. The Wolverines should be able to continue their revenge tour by beating Wisconsin.Confidence Meter: 6 1/2

2:30- Butler Bulldogs: Although Butler is much more well known, both these teams are projected to make the tournament, but Lasalle remains firmly on the bubble. The Bulldogs are only 1 1/2 point favorites as they take on Lasalle who beat them earlier this season at the Explorers’ home court in Philadelphia. Lasalle is a solid team, but Butler should be motivated and ready to get their own revenge as they play in Brooklyn. Butler has won their last three including a win over Dayton in the 1st round yesterday. Confidence Meter: 6

2:30- NC State Wolfpack: The Wolfpack are slight 1-point favorites as these two teams who are very similar meet in the ACC Tournament. Both have been very good at home getting some big upsets, but both have also been pretty bad on the road. NC State rolled past Virginia Tech yesterday and will take on Virginia who beat Maryland in overtime to close their regular season snapping a two-game losing streak. The Cavaliers have only played one neutral-court game which they lost to lowly Old Dominion. NC State is 4-1 on neutral courts and comes in with the 12th ranked offense in the nation. Their offense is in stark contrast to the Cavs whose ranks 257th in the country. If the Wolfpack can get out and run, they should be able to get the win like they did by putting up 80 yesterday. Confidence Meter: 5

3:30- Tennessee Volunteers: The Vols take on the Alabama Crimson Tide this afternoon in a meeting of 20-11 teams. The Vols come in as 1 1/2 point favorites and should have a solid crows as the game is being held in Nashville, Tennessee. The Vols struggled early on in their SEC schedule including a three-point loss to the tide in Alabama. They started to torn their season around with a one-point win over ‘Bama in Knoxville and finished the season winning nine of their last 10. They barely beat Mississippi State in the 2nd round yesterday which is cause for concern, but I still think they’re in good enough form to beat ‘Bama who has lost two of three and three of five. Confidence Meter: 5 1/2

4:40- 9 Games or More: This prop is for how many games #1 seed Novak Djokovic will lose to Jo-Wilifried Tsonga in their quarterfinal match at Indian Wells. Tsonga has struggled his way into the quarterfinals while the Djoker has needed a tie-breaker in each of his last two after losing a set in his first-round matchup. In their last match in London, Tsonga won nine and in last year’s French Open Tsonga battled him for five sets. Since Djokovic hasn’t steamrolled everyone and Tsonga has hung tough with him before, I think he’ll be able to get nine games in this one. Confidence Meter: 4

7:00- New Jersey Devils: Both the Devils and the Flyers they visit tonight have been roller-coaster rides for their fans this season with ups-and-downs all year long. One consistent, however, has been New Jersey’s dominance of the head-to-head matchups. The Devils have already won three times this season and in each of the last seven matchups. New Jersey appears to have shaken off the worst  of their slupmm with wins in three of four including at home over these same Flyers on Wednesday. Confidence Meter: 5

7:05- Syracuse Orange: The Orange are 2 point underdogs as they face Georgetown for the third time this season and for the last time as members of the Big East (this time we mean in for sure). The Hoyas won both previous meetings by 11 at Syracuse and by 22 at home in their regular-season finale last Saturday. Syracuse has shown much better form since that loss though and if James Southerland continues stroking the ball from deep they should be able to finally crack the tough Hoyas defense. It’s hard to beat any school three times, especially when its a rivalry like these teams have, so I think ‘Cuse gets the win at Madison Square Garden where there is always plenty of Orange in the crowd. Confidence Meter: 4

7:33- Iowa State 3-pointers Made: Kansas takes on ISU for the third time this season in their secongd game at the Big 12 tournament. The Jayhawks are 6 1/2 point favorites, but have been taken to overtime twice by Iowa State already this season. Both times Kansas emerged victorious by eight, but both times the Cyclones had a real shot to win. Getting their three-pointers made is no small number since ISU averages almost 10 three’s a game and hit 17 and 14 in their two games against KU already this season. Iowa State is a high-scoring team, so even if KU’s offense keeps rolling, they should be able to keep it close. Confidence Meter: 6

9:05- New Mexico Lobos: The Lobos won ugly in their first game at the MWC tournament in Vegas and will need a better game if they hope to get past SD State tonight in the semis. The Lobos scored just 34 in their loss to San Diego State on January 26 but came back and beat them 70-60 at home a month later. Tonight, they’re 2-point favorites in what should be a fun game to watch. New Mexico is better when they’re at their best, but they were far from that last night against Wyoming. Confidence Meter: 3

Like I said, I’m sure there’s many more picks to come and I’ll do my best to get an “updates” post up late this afternoon or tonight. If I run out of time, I’ll at least give my picks on twitter so follow us  @FantasyCPR for all your fantasy news.
