With the brackets all set and the tickets punched, don’t neglect your Streak for the Cash entry as you research, analyze the strength of mascots, and try to find exactly what state Northwestern State is from (hint: it’s not in the North or West of the country). Today’s Streak for the Cash options don’t have any tournament games, but there are some picks from the NBA, NHL, World Baseball Classic, Romanian and Czech soccer, Russian Hockey, and even Spring training to keep your entry rolling.
We’ll have plenty of March Madness coverage here on FantasyCPR, but cruise on over to Fansided.com or our bracket-specialists at BustingBrackets.com for even more first four-to-final four coverage all tournament long. Before tournament time, here’s the picks I’m watching today in Streak.
3/18 Streak Picks
9:00- AK Bars Kazan: AK Bars has stormed back from an 0-2 deficit to take a 3-2 lead headed into today’s game six. Salavat Ufa is at home, but Bars had the better regular season and is playing the better hockey at this point as well. Confidence Meter: 4 (out of 10)
12:00- Jihlava win or draw: Jihlava gets the draw as they host Mlada Bloslav in today’s high-noon ET showdown. Jihlava beat Bloeslav earlier this season 3-1 on the road but have stumbled to 12th in the table. Still, since they’re at home I think they’re the pick if you need one. I’d stay away if possible. Confidecne Meter: 2
3:30- CFR Cluj: Cluj is a traditional Romanian power-house but sit seventh in the table coming into today’s game. The team just one spot behind the Rapid Bucaresti is their visitor today coming off five wins or draws in their last six matches. Cluj, on the other hand, hasn’t won in their last five. Confidence Meter: 3
7:05- Philadelphia 76ers: The Sixers are one-point favorites tonight as they host the Trail Blazers. Portland is only 9-23 on the road and needs to improve their play if they want to win their way into the Western Conference playoffs. Philadelphia stands in their way tonight having won two of their last three all at home and their one loss was a close one to Miami. The Sixers are still just 3-13 in their last 16 games, so they don’t inspire a lot of confidence but Portland’s road record makes the Sixers my pick. Confidence Meter: 5
7:35- Brooklyn Nets: The Nets head to The Palace to face the struggling Pistons. Brooklyn has beaten Detroit twice this season in very close games, and will look to continue Detroit’s recent slide. The Pistons have dropped eight in a row overall and their last five at home. Detroit may be without their coach (medical leave to be with his wife) and their starting point guard (sprained left ankle). Everything sets up well for the Nets to get the win, but the Pistons have proved pesky in their earlier matchups. Confidence Meter: 7
8:05- Denver Nuggets: The Nuggets are three-point favorites as they visit the Bulls at the United Center. When the teams met in Denver, the Nuggs won by 32. Denver comes in with a season-high 11 game winning streak but most of those games have come at home where they’ve dominated opponents and have a sterling 30-3 record. On the road, they’re just 15-19. However, the Bulls are far from full-strength without Derrick Rose, Taj Gibson, Richard Hamilton, and Kirk Hinrich, so I think the Nuggets can keep it going. Chicago had lost four of five before getting the win at Golden State on Friday. Denver has taken the last three head-to-head matchups and without Rose the Bulls will be hard-pressed to slow down Ty Lawson and the Nuggets high-octane attack. Confidence Meter: 6
8:35- Calgary Flames: The Dallas Stars host the Calgary Flames who are a brutal 3-6-2 on the road this season. One of those road wins came at Dallas a month ago giving the Flames a 2-0 lead in the season series. The Flames also come in playing well having won their last two games at home over Detroit and Nashville while the Stars are 0-3-1 in their last four while being outscored 16-3. Dallas has struggled and the Flames are playing well, so Calgary gets the nod in my opinion. One note of caution: Mikka Kiprusoff the Flames starting goaltender did not make the trip to Dallas after his wife gave birth. Confidence Meter: 4
9:30- 25 Points or fewer: The Celtics defense usually should be able to hold Miami to 25 or fewer points, but check back before this one gets underway since it may change based on gameflow. Confidence Meter: 2
10:05- Vancouver Canucks: The Wild and Canucks clash in Vancouver in their fourth and final regular season meeting. Vancouver won the first two games, but last week Minnesota got a win at home. The Wild are 0-9-2 in their last 11 trips to Vancouver. The Canucks had won their last two before losing on Saturday to Detroit while the Wild just completed a home-and-home sweep of Colorado. Since this game is at Rogers Arena, I think Vancouver gets the win although it is a division game so don’t be too confidence. Confidence Meter: 5
Yesterday’s Record: 11-4
Total Record for the month: 136-105-1
Confident Picks (6+): 53-24 (3-0 yesterday)
Longest Personal Streak this month: W6
Current Personal Streak: W4 (St. Louis, OSU, and Virginia out left me at W4)
