ESPN Streak for the Cash, March 24 Picks and Analysis

In one 0f today’s Streak for the Cash picks, Tiger Woods will be back in red looking to win his second tournament in a row as he looks to close out the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill. Sunday is the start of the last week of the month so time is running out to get your streak going. Fortunately this Sunday is full of options from the PGA Tour, the NIT, the NBA, the NHL, MLS play, and even a World Cup Qualifier from Africa.

Oh, and there’s this little event called the NCAA Tournament which will be most sports fans’ focus from tip-off just after noon until tonight when the last game wraps up. Like yesterday, my write-ups for the daily Tourney picks can be found on the front page.

Here’s the way I’m picking today:

3/24 Streak Picks

9:30- Mali win: As World Cup qualifying continues, Mali coming off their third-place finish in the Afrcian Cup take on hosts Rwanda in a Group H battle. Rwanda lost 1-0 to Libya on Wednesday and don’t have any international stars on their team. The Eagles of Mali are 1-1-0 and should be able to get the win despite some key players due to suspension. A draw is a possibility, but I like Mali to get the win. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

Mar 19, 2013; Charlottesville, VA, USA; Virginia Cavaliers forward Akil Mitchell (25) dunks the ball as Norfolk State Spartans forward Rob Johnson (1) looks on in the second half at John Paul Jones Arena. The Cavaliers won 67-56. Mandatory Credit: Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

11:03- Virginia Wins by Double Digits: The Cavaliers host the St. Johns Red Storm in their NIT matchup. The Red Storm got a win at St. Joseph’s in the last round while Virginia dispatched Norfolk State at home. The Cavs missed the tourney, but not because of any weakness at home where they went 18-1 winning 13 of those games by double digits. Virginia struggled on the road, but it’s the Johnnies who travel for this after going 4-7 on the road so far this season. Before getting their last win, St. John’s had lost five in a row and seven of eight. The Cavs are favored by 10 1/2, and I think they’ll win and cover just like ‘Bama did at home yesterday in their NIT game. Confidence Meter: 6

12:16- Iowa State wins or Single Digit Loss:  Confidence Meter: 4

1:40- Tiger Woods: Tiger is red hot and great at this venue and event. He lingered in the pack before a sizzling Saturday that has him two strokes up on the field entering play today. While it’s definitely possible someone could chase him down and win, the more likely outcome is that Tiger wins his eighth tournament at Bay Hill and his second event in a row after taking last week off. Confidence Meter: 5

2:45- Temple FT made or Tie: Confidence Meter: 5

3:00- Milwaukee Bucks: The Bucks are favored by three as they take on Atlanta at the Bradley Centerin Milwaukee. The Hawks lost two of three this past week at home Portland and Dallas but the did beat Milwaukee by eight. The Bucks lost that game and one in Indiana on their recent road trip and will look to regain their shooting touch as they return home where they are 18-16 on the season while the Hawks are 16-18 on the road. Milwaukee has won their last two home games and should be able to make it three tonight against the visiting Hawks avenging last week’s road loss. Confidence Meter: 4

Mar 16, 2013; Kansas City, KS, USA; Sporting KC midfielder Oriol Rosell (20) and Chicago Fire midfielder Jeff Larentowicz (20) fight for the ball in the second half of the soccer match at Sporting Park. The match ended in a 0-0 draw. Mandatory Credit: Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

5:10- Chicago Fire Win: The Fire com into this afternoon’s game  0-1-2 still looking for their first MLS win. They did improve last week though earning a hard-fought 0-0 draw on the road at Sporting KC. They’ll host Chivas USA who are also coming off a road draw and have gone 1-1-1 in their first three games. The Fire need to get in the win column and today’s home game gives them a chance to do just that. Confidence Meter: 3

5:15- UNC 3-Pointers Made: Confidence Meter: 5

6:10- Florida Wins by Double Digits: Confidence Meter: 4

7:00- Chicago Bulls: The Bulls head to Minnesota after taking down the Pacers last night in Chicago. The Wolves are actually favored by 1.0 and the shorthanded Bulls will need a solid effort, but Minnesota is just 8-28 in their last 36 even though they did get a win on Friday in Phoenix. I’d stay away since the Bulls may be too fatigued to get the win, but I think they’re the right pick if you have ot play this game. Confidence Meter: 3

7:11- San Diego State Winning Margin: Confidence Meter: 4

7:41- La Salle Explorers: Confidence Meter: 3

8:00- St. Louis Blues: the Blues continue their Canadien road trip after blanking the Oilers 3-0 last night in Edmonton. Tonight they’ll be looking for their seventh win in their last nine games and their fourth in a row over the Flames. Calgary is at the bottom of the Western Conference, but have won their last six at home. With the game in Calgary and the Blues on a back-to-back don’t put anything real long on this one, but it’s a solid evening pick if you’re watching the NHL. Confidence Meter: 5

8:41- Miami Wins by Double Digits: Confidence Meter: 6

Mar 22, 2013; Austin, TX, USA; Miami Hurricanes guard Durand Scott (1) shoots against Pacific Tigers forward Khalil Kelley (13) during the second half of the second round of the 2013 NCAA tournament at the Frank Erwin Center. Miami Hurricanes win 78-49. Mandatory Credit: Jim Cowsert-USA TODAY Sports

9:00- Sacramento Kings: The Kings welcome the 76ers to Sleep Train Arena tonight at 2 1/2 point favorites. They’ve been able to win four of their last five at home while Phily is 6-25 on the road and have lost their last 15 as the away team. Sacramento beat the Clippers last week at home who then returned home to crush the Sixers the next night. Since the Kings are at home, I’ll take them against the road-challenged 76ers. Confidence Meter: 6

9:41- Duke Winning Margin: Confidence Meter: 5

10:10- 8 or more: Miami and Illinois average 6.8 and 7.8 three-pointer’s respectively so this prop should be a close one statistically and is virtually a coin-flip. Since both teams like higher-scoring games I think it goes over. Confidence Meter: 3
