ESPN Streak for the Cash, March 26 Picks and Anlaysis

In one of the best Streak for the Cash Picks today, the Alabama Crimson Tide led by coach Anthony Grant and guard Trevor Lacey (5) will look to move into the semifinals of the NIT as they host Maryland at Coleman Coliseum. Mandatory Credit: Kelly Lambert-USA TODAY Sports

It’s a little bit of a lighter schedule this Tuesday on Streak for the Cash after the leaderboard crashed (along with my entry) with many favorite props going down. My results yesterday were actually pretty solid until the end of the day when they slid back toward .500. I finished 6-5, and you can check all my stats for the month of the bottom of the page.

Today’s Streak picks include ATP Miami tennis, UEFA World Cup Qualifying, NCAA Women’s Tournament 2nd Round action, the NIT Quarterfinals and the NHL and NBA. Here’s the picks I’m watching today:

3/26 Streak Picks

11:10- Any Other Result: #3-seed David Ferrer meets Kei Nishikori in the fourth round of the ATP Miami event with a 2-2 head-to-head record. Nishikori lost at the Australian Open and in Tokyo both in straight sets but won in London on grass and at the US Open. This is a toss-up pick, but I think Nishikori should be able to steal a set after looking solid in his first two straight set wins at this event. Ferrer is favored, but Nishikori is playing well enough to get my pick in this one. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

4:00- Spain Win: Spain takes on France at Stade de France today in a World Cup qualifier. Spain has gon 4-1-1 against France in their last six meeings and is 14-5-0 in their last 19 matches. Spain has been crazy good ever since head coach Vicente del Bosque took over winning  57 of their 69 international matches in his time at the helm. Confidence Meter: 5

Mar 18, 2013; New York, NY, USA; New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist (30) deflects the puck in overtime against the Carolina Hurricanes at Madison Square Garden. Rangers won 2-1 in shootout. Mandatory Credit: Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

7:05- Carolina Hurricanes: The ‘Canes haven’t played since Thursday and should be revitalized as they take their home ice against their visiting division-rivals the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets lead the Southeast Division, but Carolina is in second and has played fewer games. Carolina struggled to 0-4-1 in the five games before their recent layoff, but I think they’ll bounce back at home where they’re 8-5-2 against the Jets who are 6-6-0 on the road. This is a pretty intense divisional rivalry, so I’m going with the home team. Confidence Meter: 3 1/2

7:10- New York Knicks: Boston heads into a brutal stretch of five games in the next week without Kevin Garnett who will miss the next couple of weeks due to an ankle injury. They’ve lost their last four and will need to dig deep to hold their playoff position. The Knicks are trending the opposite way having won four in a row and picking up help with the addition of  Kenyon Martin paying off so far. The Celtics are at home where they’ve dominated this series lately, but I don’t think they’ll be able to turn things around tonight at the Garden. Confidence Meter: 6

7:33- Alabama Crimson Tide: The Tide host the Maryland Terrapins in this NIT quarterfinal matchup. The Tide are 3 1/2 point favorites and come in sporting a 14-3 record at the Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa. The Terps have also been good at home but will have to travel for this one and are only 3-7 on the road. Maryland lost three of their last four road games at Virginia, Georgia Tech, and BC while only beating Wake Forest. Bama has won each of their first two games in the NIT at home by double-digits including knocking of the defending NIT Champion Stanford Cardinal by 12 in their last game. They’ve won four of their last five games and only have one loss (in triple overtime on the road) to a non-tournament team in their last 13. Maryland has been playing well too, but both their wins have come at home. I think the Tide make a good pick at home in this one. Confidence Meter: 7

7:34- Alabama leading at Halftime: If I think they’re going to win it makes sense that its more likely they’ll be up at halftime than down. Confidence Meter: 3 1/2

Mar 23, 2013; Montreal, Quebec, CAN; Montreal Canadiens forward David Desharnais (51) and Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller (30) lunge for the puck during the second period at the Bell Centre. Mandatory Credit: Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

7:35- Buffalo Sabres: The Sabres have turned things around since changing coaches and has won their last three including an impressive home win over Montreal on Saturday in their most recent game. Tonight they take to the road to face the Lightning where they’ve won 12 of their last 15 games all started by Ryan Miller who is expected to be between the pipes again tonight. Tampa is in the middle of their own coaching change looking to add some spart after losing 11 of their last 15 and their last three in a row. Buffalo is on the upswing and should be able to build on a nice history in Tampa to get the green. Confidence Meter: 5

7:35- New York Rangers: The Rangers face the Flyers for the fourth time this season tonight and lead the series 2-1 with the home team winning every game. Going back further in the series, New York has won 10 of their last 11 against the Flyers. Both teams lost close games on Sunday and are in a group of teams fighting for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Phily’s probable starting goalie, Ilya Bryzgalov is 1-7 with a 3.70 GAA against New York in his last eight starts against them. Confidence Meter: 4

9:40- Los Angeles Clippers: The Clippers are two-point underdogs as they head to Dallas looking to complete a series sweep of the Mavs. Both teams have won their last two games and neither is on a back-to-back. They also have a recent common opponent-the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets won in Dallas by 17 and then lost in LA by six. The Clippers have dropped their last two on the road though while Dallas has won eight of 11 since inserting Mike James into the lineup. It’s not a lock, but I don’t think James will be able to slow down Christ Paul enough and Lob City should be cleared for takeoff in Dallas. Confidence Meter: 5

10:30- Mexico Win: The US Men’s National team travels to Mexico where they finally got a win on Mexican soil in their last international friendly. Tonight though, they’ll be without Landon Donovan and Tim Howard. Even with their win in the last game, the US is now 1-1-23 all-time in Mexico. They’re 0-1-13 in World Cup Qualifying in Mexico. A draw would be a good result of the US, but I’m not counting on it without some of their top players and getting just 2 w/d in their last 25 trips south of the border. Confidence Meter: 6
