Streak For The Cash, March 29 Picks And Analysis

In the must-watch ESPN Streak for the Cash pick of the night, the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles and guard Sherwood Brown (25) will try to be the first #15 to get into the elite eight as they take on Florida. Find my pick for that prop here for that game and many others. Mandatory Credit: Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

If you’re still focused on ESPN’s Streak for the Cash, there are just three days left to get your streak to your goal. Friday offers some good chances though as today’s board is stocked with picks from the PGA Tour, the Danish Superliga, College Hockey, ATP Tennis, and the French Ligue 1 soccer. Tonight there’s picks from the Sweet 16 along with the usual NBA and NHL picks. Here’s the picks I’ll be watching:

3/29 Streak Picks

Apr 27, 2012; Avondale, LA, USA; Steve Stricker reacts on the 9th hole during the second round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans at TPC Louisiana. Mandatory Credit: Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

9:00- Steve Stricker: Stricker shot a +1 in round one with two bogeys and a birdie all of which came on the back 9. He’ll be matched in this prop with Brandt Snedeker who also finished +2 overall but just +1 on the back nine with a double-bogey and a birdie. Last week, Snedeker missed the cut at the Palmer in his first event back and is still searching for the form  that had him among the elite at the beginning of the season. Confidence Meter: 3

12:00- Brondby win or Draw: Brondby is 4-9-10 in SAS-Ligaen play as tneh visit Esbjerg who are 5-7-9 and just one point ahead of Brondby in the second to last and third to last spots in the table. Brondby getting the draw is a huge factor to consider especially when you see that they’ve gotten at least a draw in six of eight, three of four, and in each of their last two games. Esbjerg has had their last two games postponed so haven’t played a league game since March 4 which they won. It was their only win in their last three tries, and I think Brondby will at least hold them in this one. Confidence Meter: 5

2:00- Lee Westwood: In this prop, two international golfers face off as Westwood takes on Louis Oosthuizen. Westwood was -4 in round one while Oosty was -2. After dominating internationally, Oosthuizen has struggled in the states missing two of three cuts and finishing 33rd in the Cadillac Championship where there wasn’t a cut. Westwood had seven birdies in his first round compared to just three for Oosty, so I think Westwood is the better pick in this one. Confidence Meter: 4

2:05- 5 Goals or Fewer: Exactly even odds on this over/under from what I’m finding. I’ll take the under in a coin flip. Confidence Meter: 2

3:07- Any Other Result: Tommy Haas takes on David Ferrer in the semifinals of the ATP Miami Masters. Ferrer has won both previous matches, but the were five and eight years ago. Tommy Haas has been playing incredibly well having knocked off Novak Djokovic and Gilles Simon in the last two rounds in straight sets. Ferrer is favored, but I don’t think its a given he wins never mind in straight sets. Confidence Meter: 5

3:30- Paris Saint-Germain Win: PSG hosts Montpellier in Ligue 1 action where they’re 10-3-2 at home. Montpellier is just 4-2-8 on the road including losses in four of their last five road matches in league play. At home lately, PSG has been solid getting wins in four in a row and seven of their last eight. Confidence Meter: 6

4:35- UMass-Lowell River Hawks: UMass-Lowell takes on Wisconsin in Machester, New Hampshire,  as the two play in the first round of the Frozen Four. There are still 16 teams alive in the tournament and this is the first round of the NCAA Hockey Tournament. Wisconsin is currently eighth in the rankings while UMass-Lowell is third and even received the second-most first-place votes. Since the game is in New Hampshire, Lowell should have a fairly solid homecrowd advantage, and even though Wisconsin’s on the rise I think Lowell can get the win. Confidence Meter: 4

Mar 21, 2013; Lexington , KY, USA; Louisville Cardinals guard Russ Smith (2) shoots against North Carolina A

7:15- Louisville wins by Double digits: The Cards are 10 1/2 point favorites against the upstart Oregon Ducks. The Pac-12 tournament champion Ducks were seeded too low at #12 but have knocked off Oklahoma State and Saint Louis, two solid teams, to get to the sweet 16. Louisville though has looked absolutely dominant beating their last seven in a row by double digits and their last 12 in a row. The Cardinals haven’t been challenged yet in the tournament, and Oregon won’t be ready for their high-pressure defense. Confidence Meter: 7

7:30- Philadelphia 76ers: The Sixers head to Cleveland to take on the Cavs as two-point road favorites. Cleveland has lost six in a row while Philadelphia has turned things around a little and have won two of their last three. The Cavs have been severely depleted by injury and dropped their last game in heart-breaking fashion to Boston. I think the Sixers get the road win at Quicken Loans. Confidence Meter: 4

7:30- Atlanta Hawks: Speaking of injury-depleted, the Celtics host the Hawks as Atlanta visits the TD Garden. Boston has been good at home at 24-11, but the Hawks have been able to take two of three on their current road trip. Atlanta should be able to take advantage of the absence of Kevin Garnett by feeding Al Horford and working off the inside game to beat the beleaguered C’s. Confidence Meter: 5

7:30- New Jersey Devils: With Martin Brodeur back in goal, the Devils have been playing much better and had won two straight games before losing Monday in Ottawa. New Jersey heads to Tampa to take on the Lightning who will be playing their first game under new coach Jon Cooper. The two teams split a pair of games in Jersey earlier this season, but with Brodeur back I think the Devils are the pick in this one. Confidence Meter: 3 1/2

7:37- Michigan Wolverines: Michigan are two-point underdogs against top-seeded Kansas tonight in Arlington. KU has beaten Western Kentucky and North Carolina to get to this point while the Wolverines have been even more impressive in dispatching South Dakota State and VCU. Michigan has looked like they’re back to their early-season form and their multi-faceted offense should be enough to get them past the Jawhawks. KU is solid, but have struggled at times with high-scoring guards and Michigan’s backcourt has the power to get them the mild upset win. Confidence Meter: 4

7:38- Ben McLemore + Jeff Withey or Tie: McLemore and Withey average 15.8 and 13.8 respectively on the season meaning in the first have expect 14 or 15 points if statistics hold true. Trey Burke averages 18.8 a game but Glenn Robinson III averages only 11.1. The two tandems are close statitically, but while McLemore and Withey are clearly the first and second option for Kansas the Wolverines also can utilize Tim Hardaway, Nik Stauskus, and Mitch McGary as solid scoring options. This should be close, so having the tie is a nice luxury on the Kansas side of the pick. Confidence Meter: 3

8:30- Minnesota Wild: The Wild got a win in Dallas over the Stars on Monday 7-4 and take on Kari Lehtonen and the Stars again tonight. Minnesota is playing very well having won eight in a row and has improved to 20-10-2 on the year. Dallas’s record is right around .500 both overall and at home. The Wild are rolling so I’ll take them in this one. Confidence Meter: 5

9:45Michigan State Spartans: The Spartans are two-point underdogs as they take on Duke for a chance to go to the Elite Eight.  Both coaches are legendary, both teams are solid, and both teams have had slip-ups along the way. Duke has only lost once with Ryan Kelly on the floor, but Michigan State battled through the brutal Big 10 only losing to Ohio State in their last six games and crushing Memphis in convincing fashion in the last round. The real winner of games this good is the fans who get to watch since its bound to be an instant classic as these two legendary programs go head-to-head. Confidence Meter: 2 1/2

10:10- FGCU FT Made: Florida is favored by 12 1/2, but most of the country will be pulling for the ultimate underdog-Florida Gulf Coast. FGCU knocked off Georgetown in their first game and then overcame San Diego State to reach the sweet 16 becoming the first #15 seed to do so. The Eagles face their in-state power school as they look to keep moving. They’ve won their last seven games and have scored 70 points or mor in their last five. They seem to be an emotional team and could ride this underdog wave to the elite eight with a win tonight. Even if they don’t win, they can shoot free throws as they demonstrated by sinking 30 in their upset of Georgetown. I think they’ll make more than Florida wins by in the game most of the country will be most interested in seeing if FGCU can continue its incredible run. Confidence Meter: 4
