Streak for the Cash Picks, April 24 Previews and Analysis

In tonight’s Streak for the Cash picks, I’ll give the points against the spread and take the Oklahoma City Thunder and Kevin Durant to dominate the Houston Rockets and Jeremy Lin like they did in the second half during game one of the first round of the 2013 NBA Playoffs at Chesapeake Energy Arena. Tuesday was a rough one in the sports world. It was the second worst winning percentage of the month for streakers according to @ESPNStreak with just 33.2% of picks finding the green. My longest streak of the month fell victim to the red-heavy day, and on top of that, all my Boston teams took big-time losses.

Hopefully everyone’s streaks can bounce back today with a solid slate drawn up by Streakmaster with picks from UEFA, CONCACAF, French Ligue 1, the MLB, the NBA, and the NHL. Here’s the picks I’m tracking today as I look for a bounce back Wednesday.

4/24 Streak Picks

12:30- Troyes win or Draw: Troyes is at the bottom of the Ligue 1 while Stadde Rennes is at the midpoint in tenth out of 20 teams. Overall, Troyes is 4-13-15 on the season while Rennes is 12-6-14. The reason I think Troyes gets at least a draw though is they’ve been playing much better lately losing just 1-0 to PSG and lost to AS Nancy 1-0 the game before that. Before those two narrow defeats, they had earned a draw in eight of their previous nine. On the other side, Rennes has lost four in a row in Ligue 1 play and six of eight wins their last league win. When the sides are trending opposite ways, I’ll take the team in better form if they’re getting the draw which in this case they are. Confidence Meter: 3 1/2 (out of 10)

2:10- Houston Astros: Lucas Harrell takes the mound as the Astros look to take two of three from Seattle for the second time in two weeks. Harrell is a nice spot start pickup as discussed here, and has pitched will in all but one of his outings this season. He’ll be opposed by Joe Saunders who pitched well against Houston earlier this season but was clobbered by Texas his last time out. The Astros took a hit with Justin Maxwell going down, but should still be able to muster enough offense at home to get Harrell the win. Confidence Meter: 4

2:45- Borussia Dortmund Win or Draw: Yesterday the Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich took it to the leader of La Liga as the German side dominated on their way to a 4-0 first leg win. Today the second-place teams in each league match up in the second semifinal. Dortmund gets the draw at home where they’ve gone 10-2-3 in league play. They’ve also already hosted Real Madrid in an earlier Champions League match where the German side won 2-1. Dortmund has won outright all five of their Champions League matches at Singnal-Iduna-Park, so getting the draw makes this a very nice pick. Confidence Meter: 5

2:46- Any Other Player: In this prop it’s Ronaldo and no-goals against any other player scoring the first goal. Both teams can score and Ronaldo is obviously an exceptional player, but I think Dortmund will score first and win the match. Plus, Madrid has other scoring options even if they do strike first. Confidence Meter: 4 1/2

Apr 19, 2013; New York, NY, USA; New York Mets starting pitcher Matt Harvey (33) pumps his fist after the final out of the seventh inning of an MLB game against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field. Mandatory Credit: Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

7:05- New York Mets: Matt Harvey has been excellent this season and gets to pitch at home against the Dodgers tonight. LA’s offense has awoken the last couple games, but Harvey has been dominant on his way to 4-0 with a 0.93 ERA. He’ll be opposed by Ted Lilly making his first start of the year after a shoulder injury sidelined him out of spring training. Confidence Meter: 7

7:10- Thunder win by Double Digits: The Thunder played well in their opening-game rout of the Rockets winning by 29. They also dominated Houston when they played them in OKC during the regular season. They come in tonight as 11 1/2 point favorites and I’ll gladly give the points as the Thunder look to defend their home court and show why they’re the #1 seed. Confidence Meter: 8

7:35- Detroit Red Wings: The Wings and Kings go at it in Detroit after splitting a pair of one-goal games earlier this season. Detroit is at home and desperately needs the game since their in ninth right now in the Western Conference as they look to extend their streak of qualifying for postseason play to 22 years. Detroit’s defense has been solid and their offense showed up for their 4-0 win over the Coyotes their last time out. The Kings still have playoff seeding to play for, but will return to the postseason as they try to defend their title. They played and lost yesterday in Minnesota and may choose to rest some players on this back-to-back road series. Confidence Meter: 6

9:40- Spurs win by Double Digits: San Antonio won game one by 12 points and are 8 1/2 point favorites tonight in game two. I think they’ll cruise again tonight as the Lakers don’t have answers for the Spurs quickness in the backcourt. They could end up with a back door cover, but I don’t see them making this much of a series. Confidence Meter: 4

10:05- San Jose Sharks: The Sharks have won three of the four meetings between these divisional rivals this season including the game in Phoenix nine days ago 4-0. They’ll return to Jobing.com Arena tonight to face the Coyotes who are on the brink of elimination as they try to improve their seeding in the Western Conference. San Jose has won 12 of their last 16 while Phoenix has gone just 2-3-1 in their last seven. Confidence Meter: 5

10:05- Texas Rangers: The Rangers let me down last night as they were shut down by Jason Vargas of the Angels, but their bats should be able to get back to full force as they take on rookie fill-in Michael Roth. Roth is a lefty who has been working out of the ‘pen so far this season for the Angels. The Ranger counter by sending Yu Darvish to the mound looking for win #4. Last time out he threw seven scoreless innings against Seattle and has a history of solid outings in Anaheim. The Angels bullpen will be stretched thin especially with Roth probably not able to go extra-deep in his first start of the season. In an impressive split-state, the Rangers are 10-2 in night games while the Angels are just 2-9. Look for Texas to take the sereis behind Yu tonight. Confidence Meter: 7

10:10- Milwaukee Brewers: The Brewers just keep on winning having won their last nine games in a row and looking to close out their sweep of the Padres in San Diego. They’ll send Marco Estrada to the mound tonight against Edinson Volquez. Estrata is 2-0 with a 4.50 ERA while Volquez has struggled to an 0-3 start with an 8.84 ERA. Volquez is usually better at home in Petco, but the Brewers offense is on fire right now while the Padres can’t seem to get anything going. Confidence Meter: 6
