Streak for the Cash Picks, June 18 Analysis and Previews

Jun 16, 2013; San Antonio, TX, USA; Miami Heat small forward LeBron James (6) reacts during the fourth quarter of game five in the 2013 NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs at the AT

Tuesday night the sports world will be watching Miami to see if the Heat can survive and force a Game 7 of the NBA Finals. The game has a pair of props and a striaght-up pick on the board, but there are plenty of other options as well. Early today there are several soccer matches and some afternoon baseball from Fenway and the College World Series in Omaha. Later tonight plenty more baseball is joined by a US soccer match, a goalscorer prop, and the NBA action. There’s plenty of ways to grow your streak with plenty of green. Here are the picks I like the most today:

6-18 Streak Picks

8:00- Iran win/draw: South Korea is at home as they take on Iran in this AFC Group A match. Both teams have something to play for as they look to take the top spot in Gorup A. Their records are similar with S. Korea 4-2-1 and Iran 4-1-2. Iran is playing well and were able to win 1-0 in the first meeting despite getting a red card. South Korea barely was able to get a draw in their latest match against Lebanon who Iran cruised past. I think the Iranians will be able to get at least a draw in this one as they’re favored to do at -167. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

12:00- Oman win or Draw: Oman is -125 to win/draw and Jordan is just 2-1-4 in their seven matches so far in group play. Oman’s only losses are to Japan so I think they can get the draw in this one. Confidence Meter: 3

12:00- Spain U21 win: Spain has been the bes team in the tournament as they take on Italy but they do have to give the draw which makes this less than a slam dunk pick. Spain handled Norway 3-0 in their semifinal who Italy played to a draw 1-1. Italy got here by edging the Netherlands 1-0 who Spain also cruised past 3-0. Confidence Meter: 6

3:05- North Carolina Tar Heels: UNC ans LSU meet in this elimination game where the top-ranked Heels are -120 favorites. LSU is solid but the Tar Heels will start Trent Thornton who has been excellent all season. The LSU Tigers have struggled to score at times this season, and ultimately I think that’s their undoing in this one. Confidence Meter: 4

7:05- Kansas City Royals: The Royals have gathered a head of steam winning 11 of their last 13 largely based on the success of their pitching. Tonight they’ll send Ervin Santana to the mound who shut out the Tribe over seven innings in his start against them earlier this season. Ervin Santana comes in just 5-5 but has a 2.74 ERA and a WHIP of exactly 1.00. He’ll be opposed by Ubaldo Jimenez who has had a roller-coaster season. On of the high-points was a seven shutout innings against the Royals but he has staggered a bit lately with just two quality starts in his last five outings. Jimenez asked for an extra day off before this start which is also a bit unusual and potentially concerning. KC is rolling and I don’t trust Ubaldo, so I’ll take the INdians. Confidence Meter: 5

7:10- Boston Red Sox: The Red Sox face Jake Odorizzi who is 0-0 with a 8.03 ERA making his third start of the season. The Sox will be at Fenway where they’re 21-14 on the year and swept the Rays earlier this season. Felix Doubront gets the start tonight for Boston who make a solid pick since they’re at home even though the Rays will have an added boost from the MLB debut of Will Myers either in this game or game one. Confidence Meter: 6

8:10- Milwaukee Brewers: The Brewers head to Houston where the Astros just took three of four from the visiting White Sox. Milwaukee has been playing better recently too and getting solid starting pitching as they’ve won six of nine. Tonight it’s Alfredo Figaro’s turn. Last time out he was superb allowing just three hits in seven shutout innings against Miami. He’ll look to build on that start tonight against Jordan Lyles who has also been rolling along lately. Confidence Meter: 4

9:06- Altidore, Dempsey, or No Goal: The US best scoring chances usually come from these two players and there’s also a decent shot that it’s 0-0 at halftime. It’s not a lock, but it’s much better than a coin-flip pick, in my opinion. Confidence Meter: 5

9:10- Miami Heat: The Heat don’t lose back-to-back playoff games and are favored by seven as they come home with their backs against the wall in game 6. LeBron will assert himself, and the role players will play better at home giving this game to the Heat. Confidence Meter: 7

10:05- Seattle Mariners: Seattle takes on the Angels in Anaheim after losing the first game in this series which was the Angels have won four of five as their offense has come alive. Tonight, though, they’ll face Jeremy Bonderman who is suddenly a solid option allowing just one run in his last two starts with a 0.64 ERA. The Angels starter hasn’t had the same success as Joe Blanton is just 1-10 with a 5.87 ERA and a three-start losing streak. Both pitchers are veterans who need to be crafty, but I have no confidence in Blanton so I’ll take the Mariners. Confidnece Meter: 3

10:15- San Francisco Giants: The Giants welcome the Padres to town in this NL West nightcap. Matt Cain gets the start for San Francisco as they try to snap the Padres seven-game winning streak. San Diego got the win last night in 13 innings on a go-ahead squeeze bunt from Andrew Cashner who starts tonight’s game. Cashner will need to be sharp since Cain has been excellent against the Padres in his last three starts against them going 2-0 with a 0.84 ERA. Cain’s last two starts have been good while Cashner has struggled a bit to find consistency. Both sides are dealing with injury issues, but the Giants may get Marco Scutaro back for this one. Cain and home-field advantage are enough for me to go with San Francisco in this one. Confidence Meter: 5
