6/28 Streak Picks

Jan 22, 2013; Melbourne, AUSTRALIA; Nicolas Almagro (ESP), left, greets David Ferrer (ESP) after their match on day nine of the 2013 Australian Open at Melbourne Park. Mandatory Credit: Pierre Lahalle/Presse Sports via USA TODAY Sports

9:50- Nicolas Almagro: Almagro is the higher seed and won the one head-to-head matchup between these two. Almagro survived a four-set match Guillaume Rufin while Jerzy Janowicz got to this round when Radek Stepanek retired. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

11:00- Mali U20 win or Draw: Mexico takes on Mali in Group D where the Mexicans have struggled while Mali has looked decent. The talent level leans Mexico’s way, but they have struggled to score and have had a disappointing tournament. Confidence Meter: 3

12:27- Rickey Fowler or Tie: Take the tie and Fowler who is even after round one over Cabrera who is -1. Over these nine holes, Rickey was actually better -2 to -1. Confidence Meter: 6

2:00- Australia U2 win, draw, or lose by 1: Even in Turkey the Aussies should be able to keep this close. Take the goal. Confidence Meter: 4

7:05- Toronto Argonauts: The Argonauts start their title defense against Hamilton who they went 3-1 against last year. Toronto is favored by three so this is no lock, but the Argonauts make a solid pick. Confidence Meter: 5

7:10- Detroit Tigers: Max Scherzer is having a phenomenal year and takes on the Rays tonight. The Tigers lineup is heating up and should get him the run support he needs to move to 12-0. Confidence Meter: 6

8:10- Kansas City Royals: KC ace James Shields has been good but gotten no run support. The Royals try to change that tonight as they take on P.J. Walters in Minneapolis. KC has won Shields last five straight starts even though the official W hasn’t come his way.  Confidence Meter: 4

8:10- Houston Astros:  Houston has owned the Angels this year winning six of their last seven meetings and leading the season series 7-3. Bud Norris takes the ball for Houston at Minute Maid Park where he is 3-3 with a 2.67 ERA. He’s been even better against LA though, with a 3-0 record in three starts allowing just one run in 21 innings for a 0.43 ERA. He may not be able to sustain that level of success, but he should be good enough for the Astros to win. Confidence Meter: 5

10:10- Seattle Mariners: The M’s send Hisashi Iwakuma to the mound who has been excellent at home all year (4-1, 1.46 ERA) while holding opponents to a .164 average at Safeco. The Cubs haven’t faced Iwakuma and counter with Travis Wood who also has been pitching well. Iwakuma has been too good at home to pick against him though. Confidence Meter: 4
