Streak for the Cash Picks, July 28 Analysis and Previews

The Red-hot Tampa Bay Rays and starting pitcher Matt Moore (55) are one of the best picks of the day as they go for a four-game sweep of the Yankees. Here, Moore is shown against the Boston Red Sox during the first inning at Fenway Park. Mandatory Credit: Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

There’s just four days left in July, but Sunday’s a solid streak day with options from several different sports spread all throughout the day. The top of the leaderboard will be exciting to watch over the next few days with so very long active streaks right now fighting it out for the top spot. Today’s picks come from international soccer, Major League Baseball, NASCAR, the ATP Atlanta Final, the Gold Cup Final, and Sunday Night Baseball. Since I’m back in a more stable wi-fi environment, I can give you my favorite picks with a quick analysis for each one along with my confidence on a scale of 1-10.

7/28 Streak Picks

10:03- No at least one team will not score in the match: This is the Women’s Euro 2013 Final between Germany and Norway. For some reason, everyone is piling on the yes both wills score of this prop which doesn’t really make any sense to me. Germany allowed its only goal of the tournament when they lost to Norway in group play 1-0. Both sides are solid defensive teams and I think it will be a 1-0 finish with the heavily-favored Germany getting their revenge for their earlier loss. Either way, I think it will be a 1-0 final. Confidence Meter: 4

1:00- Terek Grozny win or draw: The Russian Premier League is just two games into their season with Terek at 0-1-1 and Rubin at 1-1-0. Last season, Grozny won 2-1 on the road and played Rubin to a 0-0 draw at home. Getting the draw at home this time, they make a solid pick again, although it’s hard to be too certain so early in the season. Confidence Meter: 3

1:05- Tampa Bay Rays: The Rays are rolling having won nine of ten as they look to sweep the free-falling Yankees. New York hopes getting Derek Jeter back can stop their slide having lost eight of their last 11, but the more important player tomorrow is starting pitcher Phil Hughes who has been horrible at home this season going 1-7 with a 5.63 ERA. He’ll be opposed by Matt Moore who has been locked in winning his last six starts in a row with a 1.40 ERA. He beat the Yankees twice earlier this year allowing three runs in 11 innings and is coming off an impressive complete game shutout in Fenway in hi last start. The Rays have all the momentum as they look to complete the four-game sweep. Confidence Meter: 7

1:10- Pittsburgh Pirates: Gerrit Cole faces Jose Fernandez is what should be a great matchup of rookie arms. Pittsburgh has won six of their last eight, but Fernandez has been great all season especially at home. This is a great game to watch to see two future aces battle it out, but it’s a hard one to pick. I’ll take the Pirates since they are the better overall team, and if the starters cancel each other out I’ll take the Pirates ‘pen over the Fish. Confidence Meter: 3

1:40- Snedeker or Kuchar: Snedeker has the lead at -14 after the third round of the Canadian Open in Ontario after Hunter Mahan withdrew to be there for the birth of his child. Kuchar is two strokes back at -12 with David Lingmerth in between at -13. There are many scenarios that could play out where neither wins, but with their pedigree and winning experience, I think one of them will take the win. This could be a drawn out prop, so I’d go with the Rays as a better pick. If you want to pick the PGA, though, this is the way I’d go. Confidence Meter: 4

3:10- John Isner: Isner and Kevin Anderson are pretty evenly matched, but Isner is a -125 favorite. Both have big serves and have played some great, competitive matches in the past. Isner has a 5-4 advantage and a 4-3 advantage on hard court. It’s not a landslide (like the percentages indicate), but I do think Isner has a slight advantage. Confidence Meter: 5

4:05-Oakland Athletics: The A’s have taken the last two games of this series and eight of 12 against the Angels so far this season. Jarrod Parker who starts for Oakland has been excellent over his last 10 starts going 4-0 with a 2.17 ERA and a a .175 batting average against. He hasn’t faced the Angels since April when he was struggling, but he did manage to go 1-0 against them despite a 4.82 ERA. Parker has been much better than that lately, and I think he’ll power the A’s to another win at home where they are 32-16 this season. Confidence Meter: 6

4:05- Any Other Result: I do think the USA finishes their roll to the Gold Cup, but giving a goal is a tough call to make. I think USA wins 2-1, but Panama’s defense is solid and they’ve been playing well too. It should be a good, close game so I can’t give that extra goal. Confidence Meter: 4

8:05- St. Louis Cardinals: The Cards try to avoid the sweep as they send Shelby Miller to the mound tonight. Miller threw six shutout innings Tuesday after a 12-day break. He’ll look to carry that success on the road where he has struggled with a 4.07 road ERA. He’ll be opposed by Kris Medlen who has been getting crushed allowing 14 runs in 14 2/3 innings in his last three starts going 0-3. Medlen hasn’t faced St. Louis this season, but started the Braves’ loss in the Wild Card loss to St. Louis last season allowing five runs in 6 1/3 innings. Atlanta is playing well, but Medlen’s struggled don’t bode well against the St. Louis offense with ranks in the top five in most major categories in the MLB. Confidence Meter: 6

10:00- Any Other Result: This is virtually a toss-up prop, especially when the hitter is unknown. If it’s one of the best hitters on either team, I may change this one up. If I do, I’ll let you know on twitter, but the percentages favor AOR in most matchups. Confidence Meter: 3
