Streak for the Cash Picks, August 2 Analysis and Previews

The best early Streak for the Cash pick is Tiger Woods as he plays the second round at the World Golf Championships – Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club. Mandatory Credit: Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Yesterday got Streak for the Cash off to a running start for the month of August, and hopefully your streak got started with some solid picks. Mine did fairly well overall, but a slip-up early means I’m only at w2 heading into today’s play. There’s some nice options today with plenty of baseball, some soccer, tennis, and PGA golf to get us started. There are a lot of ways you can go to get the green today, but these are the picks I’m watching:

8/2 Streak Picks

Aug 1, 2013; Akron, OH, USA; Brandt Snedeker putts on the 9th green during the first round of the World Golf Championships – Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club. Mandatory Credit: Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

9:40- Brandt Snedeker: Rory was not in good form coming into this week but shot even par for round one while Snedeker who won last week shot +2. I admit, I’m a fan of Rory and hope he gets his game back in order, but Snedeker is playing much better right now so I’ll overlook round one results in favor of current form. Confidence Meter: (out of 10)

12:00- Anzhi Makhachkala win by 2+: Anzhi finished third in the Russian Premier League last season while Rostov battled successfully to avoid relegation. It’s still very early in the season but Rostov has been impressive playing lesser teams. I’d take the home team and give the goal, but only if I was in the red and needed a pick. Confidence Meter: 2

1:10- 3 Birdies or More: This is a pretty solid user-submitted prop. It could definitely go either way since one errant shot can lead to a bogey or Tiger could go the whole round without one. Yesterday in round 1, he birdied four holes before bogeying 11. He actually picked up a shot on three of the first four holes with his only par coming on a par-5 which he usually kills. It’s a tricky pick, but Tiger loves this course and appears to be on his way to another solid finish. Confidence Meter: 4

3:30- Barcelona wins by 2+: If Barcelona wants to, they can definitely win by more than two goals. It’s still an exhibition, so don’t be too sure though. Confidence Meter: 3

4:10- Any Other Result: John Isner takes on Marcos Baghdatis in the Quarterfinals of the ATP event in DC. Isner has won all four times the two have met but only once was it in straight sets. Isner won his last match 7-5, 705 while Baghdatis rolled 6-1, 6-2. If Isner’s serve is on, he can win in straight sets, but Baghdatis has a solid overall game and I think he can get at least a set. Confidence Meter: 4

7:05- Baltimore Orioles: Aaron Harang has been much better lately than he was earlier this season for the Mariners, but he struggles on the road as Seattle heads to Baltimore. Chris Tillman takes the mound for the O’s  who took two of three from the Astros after a rough 2-5 stretch. Tillman is 13-3 and has been great lately with five quality starts in his last six outings. I’ll go with the O’s at home behind their best pitcher as they take on the M’s who have dropped their last two in Fenway in walk-off fashion. Confidence Meter: 6

7:10- Miami Marlins: The Marlins are playing better than they were, but the main reason I’m going with the Fish in this one is the home and recent dominance of Jose Fernandez who has been excellent  for Miami especially at home. The Indians are playing well, but Ubaldo Jimenez is inconsistent so I’ll go with the Marlins. Confidence Meter: 4

7:10- Tampa Bay Rays: The Rays send Chris Archer to the hill who has been virtually unhittable recently. The Giants have struggled on the road and starter Madison Bumgarner has also been excellent but doesn’t usually get the run support that Archer does. At home, I’ll take the Rays as they look to continue their success from July in their first game of August. Confidence Meter: 5

Jul 23, 2013; Boston, MA, USA; Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Jon Lester (31) pitches during the first inning against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park Mandatory Credit: Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

7:10- Boston Red Sox: Jon Lester was better in his last start and the Red Sox have some serious momentum after back-to-back walk-0ff wins. At Fenway they are 37-20 as they host the D-Backs who are 25-29 on the road. Lester always does well against NL foes (11-5, 3.04 ERA in 22 interleague starts), and Arizona will be playing in its third city in three nights. Boston is 7-2 in interleague play and will look for its fourth win in a row tonight. Confidence Meter: 7

8:10- Washington Nationals: The Nats Jordan Zimmermann returns form the DL and how he does will decide this game. Zimmermann is a solid starter (12-6, 3.19 ERA), but it’s always hard to predict how players will do fresh off the DL. Confidence Meter: 3

10:05- Oakland Athletics: In the big AL West matchup, the A’s host the Rangers. The Texas Rangers are 6-4 against the A’s this year and are looking for their fifth win in a row after a three-game sweep of the Angels all on walk-offs and a dominant performance from Yu Darvish last night. Tommy Milone takes the mound for the A’s against Alexi Ogando for the Rangers. Neither starter has been consistently good lately with up-and-down results. This is a tough game to pick but it should be an exciting game to watch. I’ll go with Oakland mainly because they’re at home where they’re 34-18 on the season. Confidence Meter: 2

10:05- San Diego Padres: The Padres host the Yankees meaning East Coast bias and name recognition is going to cause a landslide for the visitors on Streak. However, I like the Padres to spoil Curtis Granderson’s return and beat CC Sabathia tonight. San Diego had its four-game winning streak snapped Wednesday, but should be able to bounce back behind Andrew Cashner who looks to win his third start in a row. The Yankees will send Sabathia to the mound looking to bounce back from a rocky last four starts going 0-3 with a 7.83 ERA. I think the underrated Padres get the win tonight over a struggling Sabathia. Confidence Meter: 5

11:10- 3 Games or More: Victoria Azarenka has taken on Urszula Radwanska twice in the past both on hardcourt like they’ll play on tonight in Carlsbad. Azarenka has won all four sets, but only once did she get the win while losing less than 2 games. This is a coin-flip, but past history would lean toward the over. Confidence Meter: 4
