Streak for the Cash Picks, August 5 Analysis and Previews

In the featured matchup tonight on ESPN’s Streak for the Cash, the St. Louis Cardinals and left fielder Matt Holliday (7) host the LA Dodgers in a potential playoff preview. Find my pick to win and pick for the props from the game below. Mandatory Credit: Frank Victores-USA TODAY Sports

While Monday will most likely be remembered for the AFraud circus, it’s also a day full of Streak for the Cash options which actually count and take place on the field. This afternoon things get underway with international soccer before Major League Baseball takes over the evening slate with some fairly creative props from the ESPN Monday Night Baseball game and several head-to-head options as well. Here’s the picks I like the most today and how my picks did yesterday:

8/5 Streak Picks

12:00- Lokomotiv Moscow win: In this Russian Premier League match, Lokomotiv looks to bounce back after losing to CSKA Moscow at home their last time out. They’ll host Krasnodar who shares their record at 1-1-1. Last season, the teams traded home wins, so I’ll take Lokomotiv to get the green to start the day. Confidence Meter: 4

2:30- Bayern Munich wins by 4+: 4 goals is a lot to give, but Bayern is that good at home. Stay away, though, if you’re on a winning streak. Confidence Meter: 2

2:45- Fulham win: It’s a club friendly, so it’s hard to be sure what will happen, but Fulham should be able to win at home where they usually play well. They’re tuning up for EPL play which starts 8/17, and it will be their first under their new owner. Seems like they should be motivated and able to win at home. Confidence Meter: 3

7:03- St. Louis Cardinals: The Cardinals turned things around after a rough start to their road trip scoring 44 funs and hitting .340 while winning three of their last four. The Dodgers will likely be without Yasiel Puig and Hanley Ramirez who are both dealing with injuries. Greinke has been good lately, but has struggled on the road going 3-2 with a 4.57 ERA. It should be a great game and could easily be a NLCS preview. I’ll take the Cards though as they look to improve to an impressive 33-17 at home. Confidence Meter: 6

7:04- Zach Greinke or Tie: Greinke and Wainwright have similar K/9 with Wainwright having a slight advantage and thus giving the tie. I’ll take the tie, but this is pretty much a toss-up pick. Confidence Meter: 2

7:05- Cleveland Indians: The Indians at home are 37-19 while Detroit is just 27-26 on the road. Detroit may also be without Miguel Caberera and/or Jhonny Peralta due to injury or suspension. Both teams have won 9 of their last 10 and the Tigers have taken 9 of 12 meetings this season. I think the Indians get this one to even that disparity a bit since its at Progressive Field. This will be a great game to watch, but it’s a tricky one to pick. Confidence Meter: 4

7:05- Washington Nationals: The Nationals try and slow the Braves roll as Atlanta comes in winning 10 in a row. Stephen Strasburg gets the call for the Nats, and at home this season he’s been light’s out. Strasburg is 4-4 at Nationals Park with a 1.68 home ERA and a .197 BAA (batting average against). He’s been good against Atlanta in three starts against them (0-1, 1.93 ERA) although he hasn’t gotten a win against them which is pretty much in a microcosm of his season. Confidence Meter: 3 1/2

8:20- Yes both teams will have 1+ Baserunner in the fifth inning: Depending on gameflow, this pick could change. I don’t think this will be a super low-scoring game even with Greinke and Wainwright on the mound. Both have been working around trouble and not finding lots of 1-2-3 innings. Confidence Meter: 3

9:05- 4 or 5 Plate Appearances: Where the lineup is and who is pitching will greatly affect this pick, but initially I’d say 4 or 5 is slightly more likely. Confidence Meter: 3

10:05- Texas Rangers: The Rangers take on the Angels. Jerome Williams who starts for LA has been horrible although he did look a little better in his last outing. The Rangers swept three from the Angels last week on a trio of walkoffs. Texas is 7-2 against LA this season and I think they’ll get the win again tonight. Confidence Meter: 4

10:10- Seattle Mariners: Hisashi Iwakuma has been solid every game he doesn’t have to face the Red Sox. He’ll be opposed by an inconsistent RA Dickey. The M’s won their last two games in Baltimore while the Blue Jays were able to avoid a sweep in  Anaheim with a 6-5 win yesterday. R.A. Dickey used to pitch for Seattle but is 1-1 with  a 10.03 ERA in his career against them. At home with the better starter, I’ll take Seattle. Confidence Meter: 5
