Streak for the Cash Picks, August 6 Analysis and previews

In my most confident Streak for the Cash pick of the day, the Texas Rangers send starting pitcher Yu Darvish to the mound tonight in LA against the Angels. Today’s Streak for the Cash options are the usual summer blend of soccer and Major League Baseball. For a little variety there is a tennis prop at noon to get us started and a WNBA game tonight. There’s some tricky picks and props that could go either way, but there’s also a few picks I like. My tentative plan for my personal entry is to go Juventus and then the Rangers late tonight. Here’s my full list of picks and previews for the day:

8/6 Streak Picks

Jul 5, 2013; London, United Kingdom; Jerzy Janowicz (POL) reacts during his match against Andy Murray (GBR) (not pictured) on day 11 of the 2013 Wimbledon Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. Murray won 6-7, (2-7), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. Mandatory Credit: Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

12:10- Jerzy Janowicz wins 2-0: Janowicz takes on Julien Benneteau for the second time in his career. He wont the first match earlier this season 7-6 (0), 6-3. Janowicz had a nice run at Wimbledon but was forced to retire in Hamburg in his most recent match. Benneteau lost in straight sets in his most recent tournament to Mardy Fish. This isn’t a lock by any means, but I think Janowicz gets it done as long as he’s healthy. Confidence Meter: 3 1/2 (out of 10)

1:00- 2 Goals or Fewer: This prop is another tricky soccer total goals prop. Unless youre in the red, I’d avoid this one. If you have to pick, though, I’d go under since FC Basel doesn’t need to score to advance after taking the first leg. Confidence Meter: 3

3:00- Grasshoppers win/draw: Lyon won their home leg over the Grasshoppers 1-0 so a draw moves them through to the next round. The Grasshoppers are a solid team especially at home where they are 11-4-3 in the Swiss Super League. Lyon will most likely advance, but a draw is definitely possible. Confidence Meter: 4

6:40- Juventus win: Juventus and Inter both have had disappointing International Champions Cup performances. Inter has been slightly worse in my opinion and are coming off a tough loss to Valencia in which they were thoroughly outplayed. It’s the seventh place game, so I’m not sure how motivated the sides will be. After Inter’s last match, though, it’s hard to pick them to do anything. Confidence Meter: 6

7:05- Detroit Tigers: The Tigers have won nine in a row including last night’s dramatic ninth-inning comeback off Tigers closer Chris Perez. Today they give the ball to Justin Verlander who takes on Cleveland’s ace Justin Masterson. Detroit has won 10 of the teams 13 previous matchups this season. Verlander has started three of those games with a 2-1 record but a 5.82 ERA. Masterson hasn’t fared any better going 0-2 with a 7.71 ERA in his two starts against the Tigers. Both pitchers won their last start, but Verlander has struggled since the All-Star break while Masterson has been in good form. This is one of the best games on tap for tonight, but it’s a tricky pick. I keep thinking we’ll get old-school Verlander back by the end of the season, so I’ll take Detroit tonight since they’ve dominated head-to-head. Confidence Meter: 5

7:10- New York Mets: The Rockies visit Citi Field behind Tyler Chatwood in a game that could be threatened by rain. Chatwood will face Jenrry Mejia in a battle of unheralded pitchers pitching well as of late. The Rockies have lost seven of eight and are just 21-35 on the road while the Mets have been playing just slightly better due to their lack of offense to back their solid pitching. Mejia is part of that pitching turnaround allowing three runs in his first two starts both on the road against the Marlins and Nationals. The Rockies rely on their offense which is stagnant on this trip, so I’ll take the Mets to win this one. Confidence Meter: 4

8:10- Chicago White Sox: This should be a great pitching matchup between Chris Sale and Hideki Kuroda. With all the distractions, the Yankees have had a rough trip and facing Sale isn’t likely to turn things around. Confidence Meter: 6

9:10- Valencia win: Everton from the EPL takes on Valencia from La Liga in a solid Champions Cup. Valencia is in top form and scoring goals in bunches, so I think they’ll get the win over a solid, Tim Howard-led Everton squad.

Jul 31, 2013; St. Petersburg, FL, USA; Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Wade Miley (36) throws a pitch during the second inning against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

9:40- Arizona Diamondbacks: Wade Miley is pitching well and faces the Rays this matchup just happened a week ago in Tampa. Miley and the Snakes won that matchup 7-0 as he improved to 4-1 with a 1.85 ERA. This one is back in Phoenix, so why is it a landslide to the Rays? I’ll take Arizona, but more likely just stay away. Confidence Meter: 2

10:05- Texas Rangers: The Rangers and Yu Darvish take on the Angels tonight as they face Garrett Richards. Richards is back in the rotation after being in the bullpen for a while and looked decent in his first two starts getting a win his last time out over Toronto. Darvish, though, has been absolutely dominant as he tries to chase down Max Scherzer in the Cy Young race. Darvish struck out 14 D-Backs in his last start and has allowed just one earned run in his last three starts spanning 19 1/3 innings. He’s 2-0 in two starts against the Angels allowing three runs on nine hits in 11 innings. Confidence Meter: 7

Aug 1, 2013; Baltimore, MD, USA; After his first win as a member of the Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Bud Norris (25) gets a shaving cream pie in the face after a game against the Houston Astros at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. 10:10- Baltimore Orioles: The Orioles are out West as they take on the Padres at Petco. Baltimore sends newly acquired Bud Norris to the mound for his second Orioles start of the season against Edinson Volquez of the Friars. San Diego will be without Everth Cabrera who is a very good player overlooked in the Biogenesis debacle. San Diego is a pretty good home team, but the O’s should be able to get the win against Volquez who continues to walk batters and allow innings to be extended which will come back to haunt him aaginst a solid lineup like the O’s. Norris is 2-1 with a 3.13 ERA in his four career starts against the Padres. Confidence Meter: 4
