Just as he was starting to be a consistent part of the Detroit Lions offense, Nate Burleson looks like he’s going to be sidelined for the coming weeks. According to multiple reports, Burleson was involved in a single-car accident last night on I-696 in which he broke his arm in multiple places.

He’s expected to have surgery later today at which point a timetable for his return will be established. He may be out for the season, but could also return after missing several weeks. Early reports also say no traffic ticket was issued to Burleson and that alcohol was not a factor in this accident. What was a factor reportedly is pizza. Burleson reportedly was distracted as it fell off the seat and veered into the median.

Before he broke his arm, Burleson was behind only Calving Johnson on the Lions in receiving yards with 239 and had 19 catches through the Lions first three games. He was becoming a PPR-league fantasy football option even before he broke 100 yards with 116 against the Redskins this week, but since he’ll be missing some time fantasy owners should look a different direction. He was #4 this week on our waiver wire pickups where you can find some alternative if you are re-ordering your waiver claims as a result of Burleson’s injury.

The Lions will move forward without him as the take on the Bears this week making the recently returned Ryan Broyles, and the soon-returning Reggie Bush even more important in the Lions  attack as they look to build on their 2-1 start.
