After conflicting reports, plenty of “Will he or won’t he?” drama, and typical cloak and hoodie subterfuge, the Patriots took any gametime decision drama out of their matchup on Sunday Night Football with the Atlanta Falcons. Both Rob Gronkowski and Danny Amendola are OUT for Sunday and won’t take the field until week 5 at the earliest.

Gronkowski and the Patriots may be at odds over his return date although Profootballtalk.com contradicted that report later in the day yesterday. One thing they do apparently agree on is that the all-pro tight end isn’t returning this week as he continues to work through his arm and back injuries.

Amendola is still out after injuring his groin in week 1. He has been practicing on a limited basis and reportedly looking much better although he’s not well enough to play this week.

Both of Tom Brady’s weapons will look to return in week 5 as the Patriots take on the Bengals. Expect another week of intrigue leading up to the game for Gronk and Amendola owners.

For today, I still see Tom Brady as a QB1 in what should be a high-scoring game in Atlanta. The biggest upgrade from the absences is Julian Edelman who will get all the slot looks as well as Kenbrell Thompkins, Aaron Dobson, and Zach Sudfeld who will have to carry the load in the receiving corps for the Pats today.
