After a full month of September, today is the start of a new month which means it’s time to hit the reset button in ESPN’s Streak for the Cash. With all entries back to zero, it’s time to get your Streak in gear early this month. Today, things get off to a solid start with over a dozen options to get started on your way to the 350,000 dollar stash which is up for grabs this month if you can get to 27 straight wins.

A new month in Streak for the Cash isn’t the only thing starting today, the NHL gets underway with an All-Canadian matchup between Toronto and Montreal. The defending Champion Blackhawks open at home, and Winnipeg takes on Edmonton. In addition to the hockey, there are picks from the MLB Wild Card games and plenty of early soccer. Here’s my picks with a quick breakdown of each and a look at my confidence in each pick on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most confident.

Streak Picks 10/1

12:00- Zenit St. Petersburg wins by 2+ Goals: Zenit has dominated the Russian Premier League as they host Austria Vienna in their UEFA Group stage game. At home, Zenit is usually a very good pick, but I hate giving the extra goal. Confidence Meter: 6

2:45- Barcelona win: Barca is on the road for their UCL game as they visit Celtic. Barcelona lost to Celtic last season 2-1 in Glasgow and will be set on revenge as they take the pitch today. Barcelona isn’t a lock, but they are a solid pick. Confidence Meter-7

2:45- No Celtic never leads in the first half: Barcelona is the better team, and if they bring their A-game I don’t expect Celtic to score never mind to lead. Confidence Meter: 6 1/2

2:45- Napoli win or draw: Napoli from the Italian league heads to England to take on Arsenal. The Gunners have started strong in the EPL, but Napoli is 5-1-0 and playing well enough that I think they’ll at least get a draw in this match. Confidence Meter: 4

3:47- 0 or 1 Goal or Celtic outscores Barcelona in the 2nd half: This is a little bit of a confusing and unusual prop, but I think the game will be close enough that Celtic covers this one. This pick is subject to change based on the first half of the game. Confidence Meter: 3

7:05- Toronto Maple Leafs: Both Toronto and Montreal were in the playoffs last season and have done all they can to upgrade to make a deeper run this year. I like what Toronto did in free agency, and they took three of five from Montreal last season including both in Montreal. I think the Leafs get the road win in this one to open the season. Confidence Meter: 4

8:07- Pittsburgh Pirates: The Bucs and Reds meet in the all-NL Central version of the Wild Card tonight. Pittsburgh hasn’t been to the playoffs in 21 years and will be trying to make it last a little bit longer than just one game. The reason I’m taking Pitt is they’re at home and the starting pitching matchup favors them with Francisco Liriano taking on Johnny Cueto. Liriano was 0-3 against Cincinnati this year with a 3.70 ERA but was light’s out at home with a 1.47 ERA and an 8-1 record. Cueto only started 11 games this season due to multiple injuries. He’s only thrown 12 innings since the All-Star break although his head-to-head against Pittsburgh is a good sign for Cincinnati as he’s allowed just one run in 12 1/3 innings. I still think Liriano has the edge, though, and will be ready to roll for the Pirates who get the win at home. Confidence Meter: 5

8:10- Chicago Blackhawks: Defending champs at home. As sure as you can be of a regular season hockey game between two solid teams. Confidence Meter: 4 1/2

8:22- Hit, Walk, or Strikeout: Coin-flip pick. Confidence Meter: 2

8:45- Any Other Number: I think the game will be low-scoring. Confidence Meter: 3

9:00- DC United win, draw, or lose by 1: I’ll take the goal and go with DC on the road. Confidence Meter: 4

10:05- Edmonton Oilers: The Oilers are a growing and improving team and are at home as they open against Winnipeg. Edmonton has won five of the last seven meetings between these teams and should be able to open with a win tonight. Confidence Meter: 3 1/2

10:25- Any Other Number: Another tricky, coin-flip prop. Confidence Meter: 3
