After last week’s upset-filled Saturday of College Football, this week there are some titanic clashes between top teams as four all-top 25 matchups highlight the 10-pick board on ESPN’s College Pick’Em this week. There are big clashes in the South and the West this week with big name programs going for glory on the big stage as they build their championship resumes. It should be an awesome day of college football.
Last week, my picks struggled along with everyone else’s during the lowest average week of the season so far. I only missed three games but I had Michigan as my most confident pick unfortunately which cost me 10 points while OU lost me another 7. Our Fantasy CPR group’s average was down a bit, but mdaallen still managed 41 closing in on pitpenguins66 who still holds the overall lead so far this season.
Here are my picks for this week in the top ten games highlighted by College Pick’Em. These picks are straight-up and ranked in order of confidence (more points=more confidence). If you’re looking for more picks and analysis against the spread make sure to check our full week 8 predictions from our college prognosticator Mike Marteny.
1 point- UCLA Bruins over Stanford Cardinal: Stanford got tripped up on the road at Utah last week and now return home to face the top-ten Bruins. The Cardinal won both matchups with UCLA last week, but I think the Bruins emerge with the win in this tight, entertaining showcas.e
2 points- Clemson Tigers over Florida State Seminoles: Clemson and Florida State meet in one of the marquee matchups of the week. The Tigers escaped a trap game against BC last week, but since they’re at home I think they’ll get the win over FSU. Last year, they almost won in Tallahassee before a late collapse cost them the game. I think they’ll hold on and take hold of the ACC with this win and put themselves on an inside track for the national title game.
3 points- Florida Gators over Missouri Tigers: Mizzou is undefeated after a huge win over Georgia last week, but they lost James Franklin possibly for the season. Florida lost a tough game last week to LSU and has a second tough road game this week, but I think they’ll get the win in this one.
4 points- Arizona State Sun Devils over Washington Huskies: Washington has dropped their last two games both against top 5-ranked teams and now have to head to the desert to take on the Sun Devils. Tempe is a tough place to play, and this could definitely turn into another Pac-12 shootout. I just don’t see the Huskies being able to keep up with ASU’s offense.
5 points- Oklahoma State Cowboys over TCU Horned Frogs: OSU dropped a tough one two weeks ago at West Virginia but have been demolishing teams at home. It will the be strength of their offense against the strength of TCU’s defense in this Big 12 matchup. TCU has lost all three of their non-home games to then-#11 Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and then-#12 LSU.
6 points- Notre Dame Fighting Irish over USC Trojans: ND is coming off an open date as they host USC. The Trojans won their first game under their interim coach, but going on the road to South Bend doesn’t set up well for them.
7 points- South Carolina Gamecocks over Tennessee Volunteers: SC travels to Rocky Top to take on the Vols who are 0-2 in the SEC having lost to Georgia last week in OT and Florida in their two conference games. Tennessee has played a brutal schedule and aren’t a bad team at 3-3. If SC isn’t careful, this could be an upset, but I think Coach Steve Spurrier will have his team ready to roll.
8 points- LSU Tigers over Ole Miss Rebels: The Tigers are on the road against Ole Miss. The Rebels were ranked before dropping their last three in a row, but I think they’ll drop to 1-4 in conference play against LSU’s elite level defense this week in Oxford.
9 points- Oregon State Beavers over California Golden Bears: Cal has been pretty horrible this year and is still in search of their first FBS win. They host Oregon State this week whose only loss was to a FCS foe as they went down in the opener to E. Washington. Since then, OSU has been solid and I think they’ll get this win behind Sean Mannion.
10 points- Texas A&M Aggies over Auburn Tigers: The Aggies are at home as they host a ranked SEC opponent in Auburn. Auburn hasn’t played an impressive schedule, and Johnny Manziel destroyed them last year. The reason they top the list is that they’re at home with the other games I feel confident in are road games with Michigan reminded up last week can go south in a hurry. Go with the Aggies in College Station.
