At first glance, I think I had a really bad week.  Like apocalyptically bad.  I know I only got two out of ten right on the College Pick Em on ESPN, and the spread has nothing to do with those.

The winner against the spread will be in bold.  On to the carnage!

Western Kentucky(-3.5) at Louisiana -Lafayette:  MISS!  I really didnt see this one coming.  I thought Antonio Andrews would run wild.  This is the game that knocked me out of my college football pool…..

Miami(FL)(-9.5) at North Carolina:  MISS!  Not only did the Heels not get covered, the Hurricanes needed a furious fourth to come back and win.

Central Florida at Louisville(-12.5):  HIT!  To me, this was an easy one.  UCF has an experienced QB who makes good decisions, and a defense that is good enough to keep them in games.  UCF now has the inside track to the Orange Bowl.

Minnesota at Northwestern(-12.5):  MISS!  Silly me, still thinking the Wildcats had something to play for.  Seriously, out of all of the upsets on Saturday, this was one of the most surprising.  Minnesota was without their head coach, and had been gouged defensively all year, heading into hostile territory to face a very good offense.  What would you have picked?

Purdue at Michigan State(-27.5):  MISS!  I knew the line was high, but Purdue is terrible.  I guess I didnt factor in just how bad Sparty’s offense was as well….

Southern Mississippi at East Carolina(-22.5):  HIT!  In a week when just 23 of the 58 favored teams covered the spread, the Pirates nearly doubled their line against a hapless Southern Miss team.

TCU at Oklahoma State(-7.5):  MISS!  The Cowboy D looked better than it has since the opener against Mississippi State.  And a TCU team that was thought to be a threat for the Big 12(10) championship is going to have a really tough time even making it to a bowl game……

SMU at Memphis(-3.5):  HIT!  I at least hit my lock again to move that record to 6-2.  This game would have been a blowout had the Mustangs not let Memphis score 19 points in the fourth quarter…..

Georgia(-7.5) at Vanderbilt:  MISS!  Missing pieces or not, Georgia still looked to be the MUCH better team.  If Aaron Murray is indeed the QB that many think he is, he will most likely wind up on an NFL team that has less talent than UGA at full strength.  He hasnt helped his cause in the last couple of weeks…..

Texas Tech(-6.5) at West Virginia:  HIT!  The train keeps a-rollin….

Connecticut at Cincinnati(-14.5):  MISS!  You will have to forgive me on this one.  The Bearcats only beat Miami of Ohio by 14 points at home without Munchie.  I thought UConn had to be better than that.  Guess not…..

South Carolina(-7.5) at Tennessee:  MISS!  Tennessee FINALLY gets their first marquee win post-Fullmer……

Navy at Toledo(-7.5):  MISS!  Damn the Toledos!  They still won in overtime, but that doesn’t do me much good…..

Florida(-3.5) at Missouri:  MISS!  I was skeptical about Missouri’s quality of competition coming in.  After dominating the Gators, they have proven that they are a top ten team, even without QB James Franklin.

Syracuse at Georgia Tech(-7.5):  MISS!  So, uh, the Bees, won by 56 points.  This is why I can’t stand picking them.

Akron(-7.5) at Miami(OH):  MISS!  I figured a team that hung with Michigan could cover a team in my bottom five.  I guess not.  I was snakebit by that half.

Army at Temple(-2.5):  MISS!  The Owls dominated Army. I suppose they deserve congratulations on their first win.

Ohio(-17.5) at Eastern Michigan:  HIT!  If Army could do it, Ohio had to….

Ball State(-19.5) at Western Michigan:  HIT!  Go Fighting Lettermans!

Colorado State at Wyoming(-6.5):  MISS!  Oh, how the Cowboys have fallen….

Kent State at South Alabama(-6.5):  MISS!  The Jaguars might be better than half the teams in the MAC……

Northern Illinois(-18.5) at Central Michigan:  HIT!  Those directional Michigan schools had a rough week.  Jordan Lynch ran for 316 yards on the Chippewas, a new division 1 record for a quarterback.  Think about all the great option quarterbacks we have seen in the last 50 years or so.  He has one-upped all of them.

Oklahoma(-23.5) at Kansas:  HIT!  Charlie Weis has this team headed in the right direction.  Not getting blown out is a start.  Of course, Oklahoma made tons of stupid mistakes that kept this game close for much longer than it should have been…..

UCLA at Stanford(-5.5):  HIT!  The Bruins gave them a bit of a fight, but not much.  They didnt score until after halftime…….

Indiana at Michigan(-8.5):  MISS!  The Hoosiers kept it close until they started single covering Jeremy Gallon…..

Maryland(-5.5) at Wake Forest:  MISS!  Hear that?  That is the deflation of Maryland’s early season ego after getting clobbered by the Deacons…..

Iowa at Ohio State(-17.5):  MISS!  The Hawkeyes played their best game of the year and still lost by double digits.

Auburn at Texas A&M(-13.5):  MISS!  Manziel still got his yards, but the Aggie “defense” had no answer for Marshall and the Aubie offense.  This was an impressive road win for a program that has had a couple of down years.

BYU(-9.5) at Houston:  MISS!  Houston put up a very good fight before falling just short at the end.

Duke at Virginia(-2.5):  MISS!  The schizophrenic Cavs roll on…..or over, depending on how you see it.

Massachusetts at Buffalo(-20.5):  HIT!  Buffalo is almost as good as they were when Turner Gill was there.

North Texas(-6.5) at Louisiana Tech:  HIT!

Washington at Arizona State(-2.5):  MISS!  I’m a believer now.  The Sun Devils manhandled a pretty solid Washington team.  Can they win the south?  Maybe not, but they will definitely make it interesting…..

LSU(-8.5) at Mississippi:  MISS!  The Rebels got their biggest win in nearly a decade here, and I should have known better than this.  The LSU defense is not even close to where it has been for the last five years, especially on the line.

Old Dominion at Pittsburgh(-10.5):  HIT!  WAY too close for comfort.  It wouldn’t surprise me if ODU is the best team in Maryland right now….

Iowa State at Baylor(-33.5):  MISS!  I thought Iowa State would at least make it interesting for a half.  They didnt even make it interesting for half a quarter…..

Georgia State at Texas State(-17.5):  HIT!  The only things certain in life are death, taxes, and Georgia State not getting covered.

Arkansas at Alabama(-28.5):  HIT!  Think Bielema is sorry he left Madison yet?

USC at Notre Dame(-3.5):  MISS!  You can’t say that USC didn’t have their chances in this one.  The Notre Dame defense played probably their best game of the season, and definitely the best half in the second half.

Nevada at Boise State(-22.5):  HIT!  The Broncos are too mistake-prone to cover lines like this this season.

Rice(-17.5) at New Mexico State:  HIT!

Florida State(-3.5) at Clemson:  HIT!  I must confess that I thought it would be a better game, but I’m not really surprised by this either.  I’ve seen enough of Brent Venables’ defenses to know that they give up way too many big plays to be counted on against elite offenses.

Wisconsin(-13.5) at Illinois:  HIT!

Utah State at New Mexico(-10.5):  HIT!  I knew the line was backwards, but not off by 45 points.  Wow!

Utah at Arizona(-4.5):  MISS!  Well, so much for Utah…..

UNLV at Fresno State(-24.5):  MISS!  Another half that went against me this week….

Washington State at Oregon(-39.5):  MISS!  I knew better.  This was too many, but my saying I couldnt go against the Ducks anymore got in the way.  That’s one way to keep Oregon from running away with it:  throw 90 times!

Oregon State(-10.5) at California:  HIT!  Cal will be better soon, but it will be painful until they get some weapons around Goff.

The final tally for the week is 20-28.  Not quite as bad as I thought, but still disappointing.  This moves my season mark to 204-179.  Still some breathing room between me and .500, which would be great if .500 were my goal!

Since there is a Tuesday game, I will be posting that line tonight, and the rest of them on Thursday.

Louisiana-Lafayette(-2.5) at Arkansas State:  I still think last week was a fluke.  Give me the Red Wolves at home.
