Each morning, I’ll scour the previous night’s NBA games like a crazy person with a metal detector at the beach, looking for that precious fantasy gold that is most likely on your waiver wire.
As a brief explanation, I’ll give two guys who can help out — one of whom is owned in less than 75 percent of ESPN leagues — and a second, deeper cut, who is available in less than 20 percent of ESPN leagues. Without further ado, here’s January 13th’s “All Wired Up”!
C.J. Miles, SF, Cleveland Cavaliers (20.7 percent owned)
14 points (5/8 FG, 1/1 FT), 3 threes, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 0 blocks, 1 turnover
We all took note of Miles’ big 10 three-pointer eruption against the Sixers on Tuesday, but he’s actually been really productive in the last month of basketball. He’s scored in double-digits in the last six games, hitting 21 threes in those contests.
Aside from the points, triples and shooting the rock with efficiency (54 percent over the past two weeks), Miles has played solid defense this year, averaging one steal per game. It’s unlikely he sustains that hot shooting form, but with the way he’s playing, you need to make sure Miles is adding those numbers to your team and not someone else’s.
Deep League Diamond
Jason Thompson, PF/C, Sacramento Kings (2.6 percent owned):
8 points (4/11 FG, 0/0 FT), 0 threes, 16 rebounds, 0 assists, 1 steal, 2 blocks, 0 turnovers
Thompson has started at power forward during the last 29 games for the suddenly hot Kings and is really looking good over the past week or so. He is close to averaging a double double in the past two weeks, with fantastic shooting from the field (60.9 percent since Dec. 29) and has even notched five steals in his last three games.
If you’re in need of rebounds with solid shooting, Thompson is a great option. He is locked into starters minutes and Derrick Williams has posed no threat to take his job. With Thompson and the Kings on a roll, it’s a great time to ride the wave.
