I always like to take a gamble with the hot hand in my fantasy basketball leagues.
One player in particular that is worth taking a gamble on for the next couple of weeks is young Denver Nuggets’ guard Evan Fournier.
A first-round pick last season, Fournier didn’t play much from mid-November to end of December, but has taken big advantage of some opportunities in the month of January.
He put together three very productive games in a row in which he averaged 17.7 points and 4.0 rebounds while making a combined 20-of-36 shots (55.6 percent) from the floor. Fournier also made 10-of-17 attempts from behind the arc in that span, so he can help you out some shooting the three as well.
He came back to earth a bit Wednesday night in the Nuggets win over the Golden State Warriors when he only played 15 minutes and score only five points.
I wouldn’t read too much into his latest hot streak, but there are some positives with Fournier to monitor.
The first of which is the fact that Nuggets’ coach Brian Shaw has shortened his rotation. Before last night, Fournier was averaging 22.3 minutes 12.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists in seven games this month. With solid production like that, Shaw could still continue to give the youngster in excess of 20 minutes per game.
The next of which is the Andre Miller situation.
With Miller’s situation still up in the air, Fournier is going to continue to be an option off the Nuggets’ bench.
It’s always worth monitoring guys like this.
If you are in need of guard play because of injury or could use a boost in three-point shooting, Fournier is available in almost every ESPN league and could be a guy worth taking a gamble on if you are in a pinch.
