The San Antonio Spurs suffered yet another injury Wednesday night, one that could have plenty of impact on Fantasy Basketball rosters.
Spurs’ starting small forward Kawhi Leonard broke his right hand and will have the hand checked out on Thursday to determine the extent of the injury and a timeline when he might return. Danny Green is already currently sidelined for at least four weeks with a similar injury-a fractured left index finger.
That’s bad news for owners of Leonard as he was starting to play better as of late.
While only averaging 11.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game on the season, Leonard had increased his scoring production to 13.3 points per game over the Spurs’ past seven contests before last night. He was also shooting 60 percent from the floor and 43.5 percent from behind the arc in the month of January.
Diaw played 32 minutes Wednesday against the Thunder, and could see a similar increase in minutes moving forward.
The veteran scored 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including 2-of-2 from three-point range. He also added three rebounds and three assists, while only committing one turnover.
Diaw has been inconsistent this season, but has been productive when given the chance to start. He is averaging 10.3 points per game in three games as a starting forward, and could step into that role with Leonard out.
