HIGH FIVE/low five
Daily Fantasy can be quite the grind! Let us do the grinding for you with “High Five/Low Five”. Each day, we help put you in the money by presenting you with FIVE of the “top tier” plays, as well as a quick list of FIVE “value plays”. Saturday’s top daily fantasy basketball plays are led by Heat superstar LeBron James.
Let’s get down to get up.
Point Guard: Brandon Jennings, DET ($7,700): Brandon Jennings has been on fire over his last four games, just in time for a matchup with a 76ers team that has ranked at, or near the bottom versus opposing PGs for much of the season. Jennings has reached 40 FPs in three out of his last four games, and should be expected to do the same tonight against a team that he’s had success against in two prior meetings this year. Add in that this should be the highest scoring game of the night, and I think you can at least expect value — with a really good chance for more.
Shooting Guard: Lance Stephenson, IND ($7,900): Lance Stephenson has eclipsed 40 FPs in five of his last eight games, and has reached over 35 FPs in all but one of those games. During that time frame he’s averaged north of 18 points, nine rebounds and six assists. You can expect similar numbers tonight — perhaps even his fifth consecutive double-digit rebound game — against a Brooklyn Nets team whom he’s played well against in previous meetings this year. Gotta love Lance tonight.
Small Forward: LeBron James, MIA ($10,700): For anyone who’s an NBA fan, you know how much LeBron loves the bright lights of the Big Apple and Madison Square Garden. Over his career, his numbers at MSG are better than his already excellent career numbers. There’s no reason why he shouldn’t continue that trend tonight against the New York Knicks with the Super Bowl in town and the lights just a little brighter than usual. As usual, Kevin Durant is always a nice play, but for over $2,000 less, I’ve got to think LeBron has the better value tonight.
Also consider: Josh Smith, DET ($8,000)
Power Forward: Carmelo Anthony, NY ($10,500): What’s not to like about Anthony in recent weeks? Not much. Melo has been on quite a tear lately, topping 45 FPs in eight of his last ten, and tonight he’ll be taking on a Miami frontcourt that has not had much success against opposing bigs. Add in the fact that it’s the marquee game on the Saturday before the Super Bowl that will be played in New Jersey tomorrow, and I think Anthony brings it, and brings it big. Another top option to consider is Zach Randolph, MEM ($7,700) who should manhandle a weak Milwaukee front court while taking on a larger share of the offense with Mike Conley expected to be out. There is however, some risk of a blowout so play with a bit of caution if you go that route.
Center: Al Jefferson, CHA ($9,500): Say it with me: Al Jefferson. Dude’s topped 50 FPs in three straight games, and six times in his last ten games. He’s a beast, and though Phoenix has been able to show some success against opposing centers, I don’t think tonight’s their night. If you want to spend big, spend big on Big Al Jefferson.
Also consider: Andre Drummond, DET ($7,500)
Point Guard: Ramon Sessions, CHA ($5,900): Sessions has played quite well with Kemba Walker out of the lineup and should continue that trend tonight against the Suns, who have been among the leagues worst against opposing PGs in recent weeks. I’m expecting 30 FPs tonight, with his ceiling just a tad higher at perhaps 35-40 FPs
Shooting Guard: Courtney Lee, MEM ($4,900): With Mike Conley missing tonight’s game, Lee should handle much of the PG duties and even if he doesn’t, he’ll definitely play a larger role in the offense tonight. He’s nearly a must-play given his price.
Small Forward: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, CHA ($3,900): More of a complete punt option than anything else, Kidd-Gilchrist will allow you to spend big in other places if you like and can still be counted on for the 15-20 FPs that will put him right in his value range.
Also consider: Corey Brewer, MIN ($4,600)
Power Forward: Gustavo Ayon, ATL ($3,900): Gotta love Ayon in a matchup with Ronnie Turiaf.
Center: Jeremy Tyler, NY ($3,900): A risky play for sure, but I played him earlier this week and found success, so I think he should be able to get you nearly 20 FPs tonight. If you want to be a little safer and still play it cheap, consider Jonas Valanciunas, TOR ($5,500) or Tyson Chandler, NY ($5,500)
Thank you and good luck tonight !!!
