Fantasy Baseball: Is Nats’ Anthony Rendon a legit second base option?

Prediction: I like Rendon a lot and I am going into drafts with the thought of him being the starter on Opening Day. His ADP right now is 212 and I can see him rising into the Top 200 later in the spring. I have him ranked among my Top 20 second basemen and with the position being one that typically doesn’t produce great fantasy options, Rendon could be a nice grab for a middle infield spot somewhere between the 12th and 17th rounds in 12-team leagues.

Overall I project a .280 AVG, 15-18 HR and 60-70 RBI on the year, but Rendon has the talent to produce a lot more.

As for Espinosa, keep your eye on the rumor mill as I can see the Nats moving him prior to Opening Day.

Espinosa has been targeted by at least a dozen teams, but the Nationals are not eager to trade him despite his disappointing 2013 season, according to MLB.com. The Tampa Rays are making a serious push for him and if Rendon shows he can hold down the second base job early on, I fully expect Espinosa to be in another uniform which will help his value.

His current ADP is 555 and that should rise dramatically if he ends up in the right situation.
