Fantasy Basketball: Nets' Kevin Garnett out Wednesday, Mason Plumlee to start

While he isn’t the greatest fantasy basketball option at the moment, Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Garnett has been better as of late.

However Garnett owners will have to go without him Wednesday night when the Nets take on the Memphis Grizzlies.

While Garnett is averaging a career-low 21.0 minutes and has appeared in only 49 of the team’s 58 games, after a slow start, KG has turned it on in 2014 and is shooting 57 percent from the field since the new year.

Garnett’s absence means rookie Mason Plumlee is a guy to own as Plumlee is expected to make his third straight start in place of Garnett.

Plumlee could be a sleeper play Wednesday night as even with Garnett in the lineup the Nets are a lousy rebounding team, but if you are in a pinch, the rookie has a chance to put up close to double-double numbers.

Another option could be Nets’ forward Andray Blatche, who I like a lot more in Garnett’s absence.

Blatche has received extra minutes with Garnett out and responded by scoring 19 points (5-12 FG, 9-9 FT) with 13 rebounds in the win over Milwaukee on Saturday, playing 30 minutes.

He only scored 11 points with five boards Monday in 28 minutes against the Chicago Bulls, but I would expect a decent showing from Blatche tonight.

If you are in a pinch and in a deep league, Blatche is available in almost 80 percent of ESPN leagues.
