Fantasy Basketball: Knicks' Tyson Chandler, Amar'e Stoudemire out vs. Celtics

The New York Knicks will be without their starting frontcourt on Wednesday, as both Tyson Chandler and Amar’e Stoudemire will sit out tonight’s matchup vs. the Boston Celtics.

While there aren’t many enticing Knicks for fantasy basketball owners to pick up, some Celtics’ big men could have big games tonight.

Chandler, who also missed Monday’s game vs. the Sixers, will sit out again with what he himself is deeming an “urgent personal matter”.  There haven’t been any leaks as to what this issue is and because of that there is not timetable for him to return.  It’s a tough blow for fantasy owners, as the 31-year-old center is averaging 12.3 points (55.8 FG%) with 15.0 rebounds and 1.1 blocks over his last 10 games.

Stoudemire doesn’t have a new injury, rather the team will simply be giving him a night off to rest his ailing knee, reports Knicks beat writer Al Iannazzone:

Stoudemire is coming off one of his best stretches of the season, averaging 18.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks over his last five games.  He tied a season-high with 23 points in Monday’s game vs. Philadelphia.

On the Knicks’ side of things, Jeremy Tyler makes for the best speculative add, although it’s really unknown what kind of production he could have tonight.  He’s played just 9.9 minutes per game this season, scoring 3.9 points with 2.9 rebounds.  Cole Aldrich, who will also draw the start alongside Tyler, is a desperation play as well.

Both Tyler and Aldrich are available in 100 percent of ESPN.com fantasy basketball leagues.

The more intriguing waiver pickups won’t come from the Knicks’ roster, though, they’ll be coming from Boston.

Kris Humphries (5.5 percent owned) and Kelly Olynyk (5.6 percent owned) could be big benefactors of Chandler’s and Stoudemire’s absences.

Humphries is playing well lately, averaging 17.5 points, 10 boards, and 1.5 steals over his last two games, and Olynyk — who I highlighted earlier this week as a top pickup — is averaging 13.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.3 3-pointers over his last five.
