You always have to be careful with your fantasy lineups on “Get Away Day,” as most managers tend to get some of their stars some rest when there is a day game following a night game.
That’s the case for today’s Pittsburgh Pirates-Cincinnati Reds contest as a couple of regulars are getting the day off.
For the Pirates, left fielder Starling Marte is getting the day off.
Since hitting a home run in Monday’s suspended game against the Reds, Marte has looked bad at the plate, striking out in four of his next five at bats, looking lost at the plate.
That cause Marte’s average to slip down to .259 with only a homer and three RBI on the season. He has swiped three bases so far, so his legs won’t be a factor this season.
He will be replaced by Jose Tabata in the lineup as Tabata is penciled in as the Bucs leadoff hitter Wednesday afternoon.
Marte isn’t the only fantasy relevant player getting the day off as the Reds are sitting Jay Bruce as well.
Bruce is hitting only .152 on the season with a pair of homers and is 0-for-7 so far in the series against the Pirates. He is also riding a 1-for-17 slump over the past seven days, so it likely made sense to get Bruce out of your lineup anyway for the time being.
He is being replaced by Chris Heisey, who is batting fifth and playing right field.
In addition to Marte and Bruce, both regular catchers are not in the lineup.
It’s also worth noting that Billy Hamilton is back in the Cincinnati lineup in the leadoff spot.
UPDATE 11:58 am EST
Both Ryan Braun and Matt Carpenter are out of the lineups for the Brewers and Cardinals respectively as well.
