The New York Mets have traded first baseman Ike Davis to the Pittsburgh Pirates for RHP Zack Thornton and a player to be named later.

This could have major fantasy impact in all but the most standard of leagues.  Lucas Duda will now be the full time first baseman in New York.  Kudos to you if you listened to my advice in an earlier column and picked him up!

Meanwhile, Ike Davis will get out of the limelight and into Pittsburgh.  This means that Davis will likely platoon with Gaby Sanchez, at least initially, in the Steel City.  This likely means that Travis Ishikawa will be sent to AAA Indianapolis.

Davis will be given every opportunity to win the job full time, but his paltry .091 batting average over the last week likely pushed the price of Davis down to a more affordable level.  Davis hit his lone home run of the season on opening day, and has been mired in a slump ever since.  The Pirates were interested in Davis in Spring Training, so this trade should come as no surprise.

If you are one of the few people that own Ishikawa, he can be dropped.  Those of you in need of power can add Ike Davis in nearly any league, although if you play in shallower leagues, it is a good idea to wait and see if the change of scenery helps him out.  The Pirates didn’t trade for him to sit on the bench.  Lucas Duda and Ike Davis both receive a slight uptick in ,fantasy relevance,  especially Duda.  He can be added in any 12 team league.
