Matt Cain, San Francisco Giants
Cain, who was scratched from Tuesday night’s start, was seen playing catch on Wednesday.
Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy said the plan is to have Cain make his next start, Monday in Pittsburgh. If his finger remains an issue, Yusmeiro Petit, who filled in on Tuesday, can make another spot start instead.
Wilin Rosario, Colorado Rockies
Rosario (contusion on left hand) took batting practice Wednesday afternoon and continues to make improvement.
He’s been out of the lineup since Saturday and is hitting .244 with three home runs and 13 RBIs in 22 games this season.
A return to the lineup looks to be on the horizon.
Francisco Liriano, Pittsburgh Pirates
Liriano is on track to make his next scheduled start Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays after leaving his start Saturday in St. Louis with dizziness, flu-like symptoms and a bloody nose.
Jhoulys Chacin, Colorado Rockies
The Rockies placed Tyler Chatwood on the 15-day DL and Chacin appears to be the top option to replace him in the rotation.
Chacin, who has recovered from a strained right shoulder, completed his rehab assignment and appears on track to return to the big leagues Sunday against the Mets.
He allowed one run on four hits in six innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday against Memphis.
