CC Sabathia and Matt Wieters both land on DL and other news

The New York Yankees have placed LHP CC Sabathia on the disabled list after having fluid removed from his right knee.  The good news is that Sabathia’s MRI showed no damage to the meniscus.  The Yankees are confident that he will not need more than the 15 days to recover.

Sabathia owners should have no problem with this news.  They have to be hoping that his struggles this season are because of his ailing knee.  CC had a 5.28 ERA with a disappointing 3-4 record.

The Baltimore Orioles finally decided that Matt Wieters will need an extended DL stint after all.  His elbow was not getting any better while he was relegated to the DH role.  The Orioles hope that two weeks off will help Wieters’ elbow.

They will likely have another MRI run on his elbow in a couple of weeks to see if Tommy John surgery is still on the table.  Even though Dr James Andrews already dismissed it.  The Orioles are not going to take any chances with their star backstop.

The Orioles activated 1B Chris Davis from the disabled list in the corresponding roster move.

The Washington Nationals have decided to put 1B Adam LaRoche on the disabled list with the quad injury that he suffered on Friday night.  OF Tyler Moore has been recalled to take his roster spot.

Tyler Moore started at first base last night for the Nats.  He is worth picking up in deeper leagues because of the power potential.

The San Diego Padres have activated 3B Chase Headley from the disabled list.  Xavier Nady refused assignment, so he will become a free agent.

Same goes for the former Rays pitcher Heath Bell.  Bell was designated for assignment on Friday, and has been given his outright release.

The Carlos Marmol experiment is officially over in Miami.  The Marlins designated Marmol for assignment after Saturday’s four run meltdown raised his ERA to 8.10 on the season.
