If you were patient enough to hold onto Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Mat Latos this whole time, things may pay off for you very soon.
If not, now would be the time to try and scoop up the right-hander.
Early today, the Louisville Bats announced that both Joey Votto and Latos have left their team. Votto was subsequently activated from the disabled list (first baseman/outfielder Donald Lutz was optioned back to Triple-A Louisville).
The Reds also confirmed that Latos would make his 2014 season debut on Saturday.
He started Monday night’s Bats’ game, working 5.2 innings and allowing one run on four hits.
Latos, 26, was 14-7 with a 3.16 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 187 strikeouts in 210.2 innings last season. Knee and elbow issues have kept him on the disabled list throughout the 2014 season to date.
The Reds enter Tuesday with a disappointing 29-33 record, but that still leaves them only 3.5 games out of the second wild-card spot. They are starting to get healthy so they are a team that could get real hot very soon.
As for your fantasy team, you likely should have scooped Latos up weeks ago, but he is still available in almost 15 percent of ESPN leagues so you may be able to still get lucky.
Latos left his prior rehab start after five innings and only 67 pitches because of cramping in his calf, which ultimately delayed his promotion, something he was not pleased with.
