Orioles' Nick Hundley worth adding in deeper leagues

When Nick Hundley was dealt from the San Diego Padres to the Baltimore Orioles a few weeks ago, his fantasy value took a bit of a hit.

Hundley didn’t have much value to begin with, but Matt Wieters was expected back and Hundley was mostly seen watching Caleb Joseph get most of the starts behind the dish.

However that may not be the case any longer as Hundley may have some fantasy value after all.

With the news that season-ending elbow surgery looks increasingly likely for Wieters, Hundley should be in line for the lion’s share of the playing time at catcher for the Orioles.

Hundley’s 2014 is off to a slow start, as his slash line through Sunday was a meager .229/.244/.301 with only one homer.

But he could be worth a look if you are in a deep mixed league or an AL-only format.

Only a career .237 hitter, Hundley will never be an asset when it comes to batting average, but he does have decent power, clubbing 13 homers in 408 plate appearances with the Friars last year.

If he is given regular playing time, Hundley is now in a much friendlier ballpark in Baltimore, he is worth a look from AL-only owners in need of catching help.
