Wrapping Up: Greinke drops to 1-7

AUTHOR: awilson | IN: Fantasy, MLB, Wrapping Up | COMMENTS: None Yet

CPR’s wrap up of the day’s most useful fantasy news from the diamonds of the Majors.

Pitching Pulse
- Zack Greinke dropped to 1-7 on the season after giving up 10 hits and four runs in six innings against the Angels. Greinke was the victim of several losses directly associated with lack of run support early in the season, but he has also been hit hard lately. The young righty has now allowed eight hits or more in four of his last six outings. Greinke’s K/BB rate is still solid at over 3.00, but it pales in comparison to [...]

Fantasy Spin: Galarraga robbed of perfection?

AUTHOR: awilson | IN: Fantasy, MLB, Popular | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Tigers’ starter Armando Galarraga came within an out of recording the third perfect game of the season, before losing in on a disputed call at first base. Cleveland shortstop Jason Donald reached when he was called safe at first with an infield single on what appeared to be the final out, instead it broke up Galarraga’s perfection in the ninth. Video here.
The Tigers weren’t the least bit amused with the call, and it’s not hard to understand why.
Despite the disappointing end, Galarraga did win his second game of the season and looked brilliant in the process. Similar to Dallas Braden, [...]

Wrapping Up: Ubaldo trumps Lincecum in showdown

AUTHOR: awilson | IN: Fantasy, MLB, Wrapping Up | COMMENTS: None Yet

CPR’s wrap up of the day’s most useful fantasy news from the diamonds of the Majors.

Pitching Pulse
- Have you heard of Ubaldo Jimenez? We think it’s safe to say that even casual fans of America’s Pastime know who Jimenez is after his early-season dominance. The righty improved to 10-1 on the season Monday with a dominant four-hit complete game performance with nine strikeouts against the Giants. Meanwhile on the other side the epic pitching confrontation with reigning NL Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum never developed, as Tiny Tim allowed three runs on five walks and six hits in [...]

Wrapping Up: Thursday’s starting highs and lows

AUTHOR: awilson | IN: Fantasy, MLB, Wrapping Up | COMMENTS: None Yet

CPR’s wrap up of the day’s most useful fantasy news from the diamonds of the Majors.
It was a pitcher heavy night of notes. Let’s get to them. Right now!
Pitching Pulse
- Nick Blackburn improved to possibly the most improbable 6-1 start of any major league pitcher this year, going seven strong innings against the Yankees at Target Field. As you might imagine though, the record is a little misleading as Blackburn carried a 4.50 ERA into today’s game and a WHIP over 1.40. Needless to say he’s been more than a little lucky, but I’m sure his owners aren’t complaining how [...]

Fantasy Ranks: Soria tops closer ranks

AUTHOR: awilson | IN: MLB, MLB Rankings, Popular | COMMENTS: None Yet

As the calendar prepares to turn to June, lets take a look at some of our updated CPR Position Rankings. Today we hit closers. Rankings are based on the value we would assign these players from today on through the rest of the season. Feel free to tell us where you disagree in the comments.
Closers
1. Joakim Soria – The 25-year old hasn’t had his best season thus far (3.18 ERA with 2 blown saves), but Soria’s strikeout numbers are as high as ever (13.24 per 9IP). Slotting Soria at No. 1 may be a surprise, but consistency is key when [...]

Wrapping Up: Torres providing all-around value

AUTHOR: awilson | IN: Fantasy, MLB, Wrapping Up | COMMENTS: None Yet

CPR’s wrap up of the day’s most useful fantasy news from the diamonds of the Majors.

Hitting Heads Up
- Giants’ outfielder Andres Torres kept up his sharp hitting with three hits in San Francisco’s 4-2 win over Washington Tuesday. Torres is just owned in 3% of Yahoo! leagues, but he has carried a plus-.300 average throughout May while playing in 20 games. Torres has also added eight runs, two homers, eight RBIs, and four steals this month. Not a bad combination for the lightly-owned outfielder.
- Jose Bautista hit yet another homer for the Blue Jays Tuesday in Toronto’s 8-3 loss [...]
