A full Friday of baseball yielded plenty of drama and intrigue as well as some heroes and goats in the 15 MLB games on April 5. As we head into the first full weekend of the season, there are some potential pickups you need to be aware of who are starting to emerge as fantasy baseball options.

In our daily Sleeper Central (archive here) we highlight the players who are mostly unowned who are producing usable stats that you can add if you have a need at a given position or in a specific category. Here’s the players on the waiver wire who contributed yesterday:

Sleeper Starting Lineup

Apr 1, 2013; Cincinnati, OH, USA; Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Ernesto Frieri (49) is congratulated by catcher Chris Iannetta (17) at the end of the game against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. The Angels defeated the Reds 3-1 in 13 innings. Mandatory Credit: Frank Victores-USA TODAY Sports

C - Chris Iannetta-Los Angeles Angels: (5.1% owned in ESPN leagues) Iannetta hit his second home run of the season while going 2-3 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI in the Angeld 3-2 loss in Texas. He’s started the year 5-12 with the two home runs and four RBI. If you need a catcher upgrade, he’s emerging as a solid option and could be even better when the whole lineup around him starts hitting.

1B- Greg Dobbs-Miami Marlins: (0.2%) Dobbs is getting playing time while Casey Kotchman is sidelined and took advantage of his opportunity yesterday going 1-4 with his first home run and first two RBI of the year. Dobbs isn’t really an option outside of the deepest of leagues, but if you need a super-low budget daily option, he’s finding his way into the lineup and can provide a bit of pop.

2B- Chris Getz-Kansas City Royals: (0.3%) Getz was part of the Royals 13-4 win over Philadelphia as he went 3-5 with a double, triple, run scored, and three RBI. It looks like he’ll be the primary 2B for Kansas City and should be able to provide some steals, runs scored, and a decent average. He’s only a fill-in or deep league add.

3B- Matt Dominguez-Houston Astros: (1.8%) Dominguez had his first multi-hit game of the year yesterday going 2-4 with a double and an RBI and has gone 3-10 to start the season. Dominguez isn’t an elite prospect, but should get plenty of opportunities in Houston as they try to evaluate who’s worth keeping for the long run. Dominguez could be valuable if he can hit Major League pitching, so monitor his progress if you are in the market for a 3B where the talent gets thin in a hurry.

SS- Jean Segura-Milwaukee Brewers: (13.6%) Segura holds the lead for most appearances in sleeper central as he’s started the year well for Milwaukee. He hit his first home run of the year last night going 1-3 and providing all the Brew Crew runs in their 3-1 loss to Arizona. He’s hit safely in all four of Milwaukee’s games and is 6-14 on the year. He’s one of the hottest pickups in fantasy baseball in the early going and should be locked in at SS for the Brewers all year long.

OF- Justin Ruggiano-Miami Marlins: (11.2%) Ruggiano continued his solid start going 2-5 with a double and a pair of RBI yesterday in the Marlins win over New York. To start the year, he’s gone 4-13 but three of those hits have gone for extra bases and he’s driven in three runs. He even added a pair of stolen bases last night, and should be the everyday CF for Miami. There was talk of a platoon with Chris Coghlan, but the Fish need offense so badly that they won’t be able to sit Ruggiano down if he keeps pounding it like this. Grab him in the short-term since he tends to be streaky and you can move on when he starts to cool off.

Apr 5, 2013; Chicago, IL, USA; Seattle Mariners center fielder Franklin Gutierrez (21) reacts after hitting a home run against Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Jose Quintana (not pictured) during the first inning at U.S. Cellular Field. Mandatory Credit: Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

OF- Franklin Gutierrez-Seattle Mariners: (1.4%) The injury-prone Gutierrez hit his second homer of the young season and hit in his fifth straight game going 3-5 with a double, the home run, three runs scored, and three RBI. He’s 7-17 so far this year with a pair of doubles and a pair of home runs to go with his six RBI. He’s firmly atop the Mariners lineup and can be added in leagues where OF depth is scarce. Monitor his injury situation, but he’s worth a look when he’s healthy.

OF- Nate McLouth-Baltimore Orioles: (0.5%) McLouth hit leadoff for Baltimore yesterday and stole his second base of the year while going 2-5 with a pair of runs scored. The O’s are still tinkering with who’s hitting where, but with Wilson Betemit still sidelined, there’s opportunity for McLouth to show that last year’s resurgence was no fluke.

AL Starting Pitcher- Dan Straily-Oakland Athletics: (2.8%) While many of my spot starting options struggled, Straily pitched well against Houston striking out 11 Astros in 6 2/3 innings allosing just two runs on five hits. Straily had big K numbers in the minors last year but didn’t every seem to translate them into the Majors. He may be headed back to the minors with Bartolo Colon coming off his suspension tomorrow, but he showed when he pitches he’s a good plug-and-play option in the right matchup.

April 05, 2013; San Francisco, CA, USA; San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Barry Zito (75) pitches the ball against the St. Louis Cardinals during the first inning at AT

NL Starting Pitcher- Barry Zito-San Francisco Giants: (6.7%) Zito dominated the Cardinals yesterday allowing just three hits and three walks in seven shutout innings. He had a strong spring and looks to be carrying over last year’s postseason momentum to the opening weeks of this year. He’s a spot start option and will be more ownable if he can perform away from AT&T Park.

Relief Pitcher- Drew Smyly-Detroit Tigers: (0.5%) Smyly dominated yesterday throwing four perfect innings against the Yankees while striking out five to pick up the save. He’s a long reliever that doesn’t have a ton of fantasy upside, but if his role changes to either full-time closer or full-time starter he’d be worth a quick pickup.

It’s time to go all-in if your team is still alive in fantasy baseball. There’s no long-term to look at as players who are hot and pitchers with solid starts become must-adds. Anyone who is hitting right now has value and players in slumps or injuries need to be replaced. If you need to make some moves, check our daily Sleeper Central post (Archive here) for a whole lineup of pickups to consider.

Here’s today’s lineup of waiver wire options:

Sleeper Awakening

Ezequiel Carrera- Cleveland Indians – OF: As the Indians season fades to darker and darker shades os dismal, Carrera stands out as a bright spot. He’s played 24 games since being called up early in August. He’s a good example of a hot bat that could make a difference in the playoffs despite being owned in just under a half of a percent in ESPN leagues. He’s hitting .319 and has gone 4-8 in his last two games with eight total bases. He added his fourth steal in five attempts yesterday as well in the Indians lost again to the A’s. Carrera will get plenty of playing time and should be able to provide speed, runs, RBI, speed, and even some sneaky power down the stretch. Carrera does strike out at a rate of just under one per game so be aware of that if your league has a penalty for K’s. Carrera is 22-69 overall with four doubles, three triples, a home run, four RBI and 11 runs scored.

Sleeper Starting Lineup

August 24, 2012; Pittsburgh, PA, USA; Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy (20) plays catch prior to playing the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. Mandatory Credit: Charles LeClaire-US PRESSWIRE

C- Jonathan Lucroy- Mil: (43.9% ownership in ESPN leagues) 3-5, R, 7 RBI, HR. No other catcher in history has had two games in one season with seven or more RBI. Lucroy joins just four other catchers who have two of those games in their career accoring to Elias Sports Bureau-Bill Dickey, Smoky Burgess, Johnny Bench, and Ramon Hernandez. Lucroy is now hitting an impressive .332 on the season with nine homers and 49 RBI despite only having played 70 games. He’s definitely a great catching option and should be owned in all leagues for the last month of the season.

1B- James Loney- Bos: (3.8%) 3-4, 2 R, RBI, HR. In each of his five games with Boston, Loney has at least a hit and has an RBI in each of his four starts. He’s hitting .412 since coming to the AL with four RBI and the one home run from last night. He’ll split time with Mauro Gomez as they audition for 1B roles either with Boston or another team next year.

2B- Alexi Casilla- Min: (0.1%) 2-3, R, RBI, BB, SB. Casilla has two steals in his last four games and has 16 on the year. His speed is his primary fantasy asset but beware his .212 batting average if cheap speed is what you’re looking for.

3B- Josh Donaldson – Oak: (5.0%) 1-3, 2 R, RBI, 2 BB, HR. Donaldson homered for the second day in a row. He’s played 16 games this month since being recalled and has a 1.018 OPS with a .350 batting average, three home runs, and 11 RBI. He’s swinging a hot bat and manning the hot corner for Oakland so take a look at him if you have a positional need.

SS- Tyler Greene – Hou: (1.7%) 1-4, R, RBI, HR. Greene continues to get a long look in the middle of the Astros infield his home run was his third in the last ten games and his eighth of the season. He’s only hitting .226, but if you can trade average for speed and power Greene is worth a look..

Aug 24, 2012; Chicago, IL, USA; Chicago Cubs center fielder Brett Jackson at bat against the Colorado Rockies at Wrigley Field. Mandatory Credit: Jerry Lai-US PRESSWIRE

OF- Brett Jackson – ChC: (1.4%) 2-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 2B, 2 BB. Jackson seems to be adjusting well to Major league picthing going 7-19 in his last seven games. He’s hit three home runs and three doubles during that span as well all at Wrigley field. The Cubs will take a long look at Jackson in the outfield as they see if he’s ready to start in the Majors next year, and Jackson is worth a pickup in deep leagues if you need an outfield bat. He hasn’t utilized his speed at all to steal bases but didi have 27 steals at Iowa before his recall.

OF- Ezequiel Carrera- Cle: (0.3%) 2-4, 2 R, 2B, BB, SB. See above.

OF- Franklin Gutierrez- Sea: (0.3%) 2-4, 2 R, 2B, SB. Gutierrez has stolen three bases in three games since his return to the Seattle lineup after his second DL stint of the season. He’s only played 16 games this year but has a pair of homers, nine RBI, and eight runs scored. If he can stay healthy and get playing time in the M’s crowded outfield, he could definitely hav fantasy value for the next month.

AL Starting Pitcher- Zach Britton-Bal: (2.5%) 8.0 IP, 1 ER, 7 H, 0 BB, 10 K, W. Britton has started eight games this year for the Orioles. In four he’s given up four runs or more, and in the other four he’s given up two runs or less. He dominated a solid Chicago team last night and the 10 K’s was by far a season-high. He’ll make his next start Tuesday against Toronto despite being optioned to Triple-A after his start last night.

NL Starting Pitcher- Kyle Kendrick-Phi: (28.6%) 7.2 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 0 BB, 6 K, W. Kendrick has been exceptional his last four starts going 7.0, 8.0, 6.2, and 7.2 innings while not allowing more than two earned runs in any of his starts. Granted, last night’s was agains the weak-hitting Mets, but Kendrick has been in a groove lately and is worth picking up possibly as a spot starter his next time out.
