The fantasy football season is quickly coming to a close and playoff spots in fantasy football leagues are hanging in the balance. However, anyone who started these five players in Week 14 may need a miracle from the last two games of the week with the Miami Dolphins playing the Tennessee Titans and the New York Giants playing the Green Bay Packers.
5 biggest disappointments for fantasy football in Week 14
Jared Goff
For the second time in four weeks, the Detroit Lions played the Chicago Bears and for the second time Jared Goff had a disappointing performance. When the Lions played the Bears in Week 11, Goff threw for 236 yards with two touchdowns but had three interceptions (which was the first game all season with multiple interceptions).
Once again in Week 14, Goff had multiple interceptions with two but didn't have the touchdowns to balance out the negative plays. He finished with only one touchdown and threw for only 161 passing yards.
The good news is that Goff doesn't play the Bears the rest of the season but does have some tough matchups coming up against the Broncos in Week 15 and then Cowboys in Week 17. It is hard to trust the Lions' quarterback at this point of the season.
Joshua Dobbs
Joshua Dobbs was a great story for fantasy football as well as the NFL as a whole. However, after two straight games with disappointing performances, he has likely lost the starting quarterback job for the Minnesota Vikings.
In Week 12, Dobbs would throw four interceptions against the Bears but the Vikings stuck with him coming out of the bye. However, he struggled to move the ball against the Raiders and completed only 10 of 23 passes for 63 yards with another 21 rushing yards. He would be benched later in the game for Nick Mullens, who looked much better.
At this point, it seems unlikely that the Minnesota Vikings would go back to Joshua Dobbs and for any team needing roster spots, it makes sense to drop Dobbs at this point.
D'Andre Swift
Earlier in the season, D'Andre Swift was a Top 10 running back in fantasy football. However, in the past two weeks he has been almost a non-factor as the Eagles have suffered back-to-back blowout losses.
In Week 13, Swift had only six rushing attempts for 13 yards with two receptions for seven yards on six targets. Then on Sunday night, the Cowboys jumped out to a huge lead and the Eagles never really got back into the game.
D'Andre Swift had only 11 rushing attempts for 39 yards but more concerning was the fact that he didn't have a single target in the passing game. This is now the third time in five games with two or fewer targets.
The good news for Swift is that the next three games are against defenses that rank in the Top 10 for most rushing yards allowed per game so he should be able to bounce back.
Mike Evans
Over the past month, Mike Evans has been one of the best wide receivers in fantasy football with an average of over 100 receiving yards per game and had five receiving touchdowns during this stretch. However, against the Atlanta Falcons, the Bucs wide receiver was a non-factor.
He would finish the game with only one reception for eight yards on six targets. This was the fewest targets he had since Week 9 and well below the average he had over the previous four games with double digit targets.
Based on the previous month, this is probably not much of a concern and Evans should get back on track against the Green Bay Packers in Week 15. After that game, the schedule gets even better with favorable matchups against the Jaguars and the Saints.
Stefon Diggs
It might be time to panic about Stefon Diggs as the Bills wide receiver has now had three bad games over the past four weeks. Diggs began the season better than any wide receiver with 100 or more receiving yards in five of the first six weeks with five receiving touchdowns.
However, as of late Diggs has not been nearly as productive with 50 or fewer receiving yards in three of the past four games and only one receiving touchdown. The concern is that he is still getting the targets as he had 11 targets against the Chiefs.
While some of those catches were errant throws, there was a number of drops by Stefon Diggs. On top of that, Diggs is just not on the field as much with two of the past three games his snap percentage was 80% or less.
Stefon Diggs has a tough matchup this week against the Dallas Cowboys but the schedule does get easier with games against the Chargers and Patriots. It is tough to imagine benching Stefon Diggs so fantasy football managers might just have to hope he turns it around.
