3 wide receivers Chiefs could add to become more potent in fantasy football

The Kansas City Chiefs have created a dynasty but in 2024, the team will look to add a WR1 to become even more explosive on offense.

The Chiefs have now won back-to-back Super Bowls, becoming the first team in nearly 20 years to accomplish that feat. But now, the team has its sights set on winning a third in a row, something that has never been done in NFL history.

The Chiefs have the quarterback and head coach in place to be able to do that plus some a terrific supporting cast that includes the likes of Travis Kelce and Chris Jones. But to think that the Chiefs won this Super Bowl without a true No. 1 wide receiver is impressive.

Patrick Mahomes is the best QB in the league and for me, that carries over to fantasy football as well. When he has the right guys around him, Mahomes is QB1. And this offseason, you should expect the team to go out and find him a great wide receiver to get the ball to, especially after the team had many issues with drops from the position this season.

The team will have a couple of its own receivers — Mecole Hardman and Richie James — hit the free-agent market this offseason. Look for the team to upgrade the position with one of these options.

Calvin Ridley

After having to sit out an entire season for violating the NFL's policy against gambling, Calvin Ridley bounced back a solid season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

This season, he caught 76 passes for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns. The Jaguars acquired Ridley through a trade in the 2022 season despite Ridley being suspended for that entire season. It's unlikely they would make such a move only to lose Ridley to free agency a year later.

However, when money gets in the way, a player may be swayed to head to a team looking to compete for another Super Bowl.

Ridley was born in Florida so he may feel quite comfortable in Jacksonville, but going to Kansas City to catch passes from Mahomes could end up being quite attractive.

Mike Evans

This was a move that I talked about here and of all the names on this list, this one is probably the most likely. As this offseason goes on, Mike Evans to Kansas City is a move you can expect many outlets to discuss because it makes a lot of sense.

And if you are a Mahomes owner in a dynasty league per se, it would be a huge boon to his fantasy stock.

Evans has had over 1,000 yards receiving in each season of his career and even now, there's not much he can't do. He has great hands, can catch the deep ball and is tremendous in the red zone. Having him and Kelce on the field together would cause some major headaches for opposing defenses.

This would likely be a fit that would interest Evans too, despite the fact that he probably would like to display loyalty to the team that drafted him, Tampa Bay. However, the chance to compete for another Super Bowl and play with Mahomes, after he already played with Tom Brady earlier in his career, would present a unique experience.

Tee Higgins

Another player that would make a ton of sense is Tee Higgins, who is a free agent for the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals have one of the best wide receiver groups in the league but as long as Ja'Marr Chase is there, Higgins will never be the No. 1 guy.

In Kansas City, he would be the top guy on the depth chart immediately and he would become the guy Mahomes looked to when the team needed a big play. That would mean a chance to expand on his already impressive annual averages of 64 receptions, 921 yards and six touchdowns. Those are good numbers for a No. 2 wide receiver, but there is no doubt that Higgins will have his eyes on what those numbers could look like without having to share the field with someone like Chase.

He would also be catching passes from Mahomes, which is pretty enticing as well. It's a fit that makes a lot of sense and would give Higgins a chance to elevate himself into the top 10 wide receivers in fantasy football.
