Fantasy Football: One QB, RB, WR, and TE primed for huge Week 6 performances
By Lior Lampert
TE: Cole Kmet, Chicago Bears
Cole Kmet being Yahoo’s overall TE3 through the first five weeks of the NFL season is one of the more surprising storylines in fantasy football thus far. Currently, Kmet ranks seventh amongst tight ends in yards (231) and ninth amongst tight ends in targets (29), having seen at least five targets in all but one game. In other words, this pace is sustainable given his role with the Bears offense.
Not to mention, Justin Fields has been dialed in over the last two weeks, throwing four touchdown passes in each of the past two games. Of Fields’ eight touchdowns in that span, three of them have been to Kmet. Kmet has turned into a reliable option for Fields when they get near the end zone, using his 6-foot-6 frame to his advantage.
As if the Bears needed additional incentive to throw the ball given the way Justin Fields has looked over the last two weeks, each of the top three Bears running backs are all out due to injury in Week 6 (Khalil Herbert, Roschon Johnson, and Travis Homer). So, the Bears will have to turn to D’Onta Foreman (who has been a healthy scratch after Week 1), Darryton Evans (who was signed from the Dolphins practice squad recently), and full back Khari Blasingame (who has 11 career carries to his name in five seasons) to operate as the Bears’ running backs in Week 6. A decimated running back room could force the Bears to lean into a passing game that has already been firing on all cylinders, which bodes well for Kmet
Per Sal Vetri of Big Energy Sports, Kmet is one of just nine tight ends earning a target on 20-plus percent of their routes (22 percent). Kmet has a great chance to finish as a top-five tight end this week given the circumstances.
