RB: David Montgomery, Detroit Lions

David Montgomery had a huge Week 4 performance on Thursday Night Football against the Packers. Despite it being his first game back from injury, Montgomery was a workhorse and the engine of the Lions offense in the primetime victory. Montgomery turned 32 carries into 121 yards while bulldozing his way to three rushing touchdowns, adding two receptions for 20 yards through the air. While it may be tough to follow up a 34-touch and three-touchdown performance, Montgomery has a perfect opportunity to continue putting up RB1 numbers in Week 5 when the Lions face the Panthers.

The Lions are currently 10-point favorites against the Panthers. If the game goes as Vegas expects it to, there should be ample amounts of carries and scoring opportunities for Montgomery. Per Caesar’s Sportsbook, Montgomery is -150 to score a touchdown against the Panthers. It is rare to see a player being this favored to score a touchdown in a single game, highlighting just how valuable Montgomery’s role on this offense is when the Lions get near the goal line.

Despite missing a game due to a thigh injury, Montgomery is tied for second in the NFL in rushing touchdowns (5). He has been given the role that saw former Lions running back Jamaal Williams pace the NFL in rushing touchdowns last season with 17, and Montgomery seems like he could be on his way to doing the same in 2023.

Running behind one of the best offensive lines in the NFL and locked into a huge workload in a game where the Lions are double-digit favorites, Montgomery could be looking at another multi-touchdown performance in Week 5.
